Well we know it can't be too nasty in the suits, they have to maintain a proper Ph balance, not let the skin get wet and clammy, and of course maintain a sterile environment, so it would stand to reason that sterilizing would eliminate odor as well, because it's a CLOSED system, having spent a couple days in a flak jacket, let me assure you, you can smell yourself when you're working in something made of heavy material for a couple days. So just for personnel comfort, and the desire to not kill each other via BO when Quarian couples "link suit environments" I'd theorize that it isn't too nasty in there.
I'd also think of it like a combination of a wet suit, or skin tight underlayer, and then the main suit, exterior armor/etc goes over that. So no underwear required.
