Assumed it was due to regional dialects that were fostered aboard individual ships. Even in our day of massive global communications, I STILL can't understand an Bostonian going full tilt. (I'm from Texas)Himmelstor wrote...

So .....
Quarian accents - Do you think the variation in accents is a left over from life on Rannoch, where different people were living on different continents, or are there infact slight cultural differences found throughout sections of the fleet? (IE 2 or 3 closely knit ships will share an accent, being so closely related, while others won't ....)
I tend to think the latter, because I would assume that 300 years in a flotilla would be enough to homogenize any accents carried over:?

Hm, seems as if they cut the best part from the scene after Shepard arranges peace between Geth and Quarians on Rannoch.
If you look at the game file with scene directions for conversations you find this:
[biod_gth002_400resolution_loc_int.gth002_post_tali_m_d.gth002_post_tali_m_dlg]
1: Tali is standing on hillside, looking at Rannoch.Shepard approaches.
2: Long pause. Tali braces herself to say something.
3: Pause as Tali looks out, thinking.
4: Cut to Shepard as Tali takes helmet off.
5: Tali helmet-less, but silhouetted, face not visible.
6: Shepard and Tali romance: embrace in silhouette against sunset.
7: Shepard with arm on Tali's shoulder looking at sunset.
8: shuttle arrives
9: Shepard leaves
10: Tali snaps a picture of herself
11: Romance path. Shepard moves in to hold shoulder.
12: Romance path. Shepard moves in to hold shoulder.
1-5 is the talk between Shepard and Tali until she detaches her visor, 6-12 is missing.
10 seems to be the moment she snaps the picture with her face.
Just wondering where you got this from? I find that very interesting.

Ahhh..... a little of both then ........ very possible, very possible:)
According to interview with Ash Sroka, accent was supposed to be "gypsy". Since Gypsies aren't a homogenous group, but mostly Sinti and Roma tribes, very different accents. The accent that was in the end created reminded me of eastern european accents, Romanian, Czech, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian. By that definition - many possible Tali-like speakers.

LoL! Maybe someday =D. I've read that the first humans on Mars will be here in about 50-60 years. So even if we find Alien tech that will lead us to the Quarian homeworld, I'll probably not be around to see it anymore. Guess I have to go with humans who have that accent instead. Well I'm German, so "Eastern Europe" is pretty close. Might spend the summer there
BTW, Ash is pretty cute. Can't think of a single reason for Bioware NOT to use a 3d model of her face for a beautifully done reveal scene on Rannoch... It would have been so easy!!!!!!

I know!
A lot of people have said that she doesn't have the right facial structure to fit the helmet, but I mean, that's what artists are there for!
Sit them down and say:
"Hey, guys. We want to you take this picture:

and make it fit into this picture."

I mean, if they're just going to photoshop a stock photo anyways, why not just alter one of Ash's?

Yeah, I was surprised that Ash Sroka doesn't really speak like that. Hehe. Sroka sounded befitting a Czech name, after all. And yeah, German, too. If Czech speak English, they should come close to this. As I stated, it was meant to be "gypsy", so Sinti and Roma, and those are mostly Eastern European. However, they have all kinds of different dialects there, I guess we just got lucky with the cute Tali one.
Worth fighting for.

Said it time and again, and Ash would be more than willing to pose for her, too. It's a waste of potential - but they DO have experience in wasting potential as of late...

I get why they wanted her to sound "gypsy", there are some similarities to the Quarian "lifestyle", fi you know what I mean XD. But it obviously is a pretty dumb request, for the reasons you quoted, exactly. They should have requested a slavish accent, because that's what it is, without being too specific.
What I was always wondering, though, is, why doesn't she have any kind of slavish accent in the German dubbing? I mean if you played Baldur's Gate 2, Minsc does have a russian accent in the German version as well. It just seems so strange for her to speak Hochdeutsch... first time I played Mass Effect 1 with German dubbing, and once I switched to English, it just blew my mind. The English dubbing is better in general, but Tali's voice especially has so much more personality. Besides, girls talking German with slavish accents so sound really hot. So why not give her an accent?
