Tried to come up with somthing more insulting or a rip off than the photoshoped picture, like draw in your own in a empty frame, but that would be better!

It's perhaps a comment on the state of the industry that a lot of people don't seem to understand what makes computer games work, that is, the player interaction. If you to write a story free from compromise write a book. Otherwise the gamer better damn well be at the centre of your universe.  Perhaps it sounds arrogent, but games wouldn't exist without the gamer and their whole nature is to put the gamer at the centre of the univese. Somewhere along the line some developers forgot that.

Actually, writers aren't artists. They're writers. Good writers or bad writers. Calling a videogame art is like calling a car art. Sure, there are artistic elements, like the look, and how practically it is designed to use (ergonomics), but all in all it's worthless if you can use it only one time. Or the tank has to be replaced after every drive. Or it smells like french fries. Or if it uses 25 liters per 100 kilometer. Seeing video games as an art form is plain wrong, since we cannot just walk out of it and get our money back at the cashiers, like in movies, or see a picture from it in a newspaper, like a painting or a sculpture. Or Tali. Tali is art, no doubt about it. But there is art about Tali. Those are still pictures. We have to play the game, we cannot experience anything beforehand, and it's really expensive to play the game. And it's basically unreturnable, once activated. It's like forcing us to watch a very expensive movie that we helped creating, and if you walk out, your loss. Or a play where we star in, too, or direct, and in the end they say, hey, you don't like it, here's a bird, it's endangered, there are only two left.

I was hoping that, like Mass Effect 1 and 2, Mass Effect 3 would be worth the money, for I would want to play it over and over again. In reality, it spoiled even the previous two parts, the experience from those is tainted. I would've taken any half-assed "we did it, Shepard"-ending with Garrus on the beach, walking along, telling stories back and forth, and in the background you see this crashed Reaper corpse in the ocean sticking out, and Tali running towards you, and before you can see the face - fade to black, credits. Well enough for me. Cheap, yes. Corny, a little. Not very high profile, true. But: What we got was like...a third grader trying to make up an ending for a story he was told as a bedtime story. It's illogical and childish. Literally. And that was - in retrospect - a very costly experience to make. I still hope that one day I can finally forget the ending or help modding the game so it's removed. That's all I want. Remove everything after Anderson's death, and substitute with a crucible firing, destroying the Reapers, blowing up the citadel, me being recovered from wreckage, and then, months later, beachfront ending. With Tali. Sure, that'll be work. But I believe we could get enough energy pooled to create it ourselves. Bioware - obviously - won't. Everything up to this point was very, very good experience, up to this point I didn't believe they could spoil it for me. Well...at least that they thouroughly did.

This is why I'm in two minds about playing MP this weekend. I did just have one of the most fun MP games so far and it was with an engineer (sadly not Quarian, though I do love my Geth Pulse Rifle).

On a side note, I've been watching the various romances on Youtube and I've come to the conclusion that we actually did fairly well with Tali. Liara's is good as well, but she doesn't really get any more then us and a lot of her romance dialogue is only a minor change from what she says as a friend. I haven't checked out Garrus yet, but the others are pretty weak really and some of the Femshep options are abysmall. I kinda want to go back and loose Jacob on the suicide mission out of revenge for all the Femsheps out there. What a douche.

Yes, Tali got the most besides Liara, and Liara only more because all of Bioware are Liaramancers, and I mean all of them, but all the fans are Talimancers at some point. She is the most popular character of the game. Garrus is the most popular male character - well, besides Mordin, he's getting a lot of doctorly love - and thus his romance was worked out greatly. The VS got dropped into the background due to their unimportance to the fans, but the other ME2 romances took hard knocks down, too. I guess I can understand, working out three characters that well, I guess pressure was put on to finish it. I feel for the other mancers and I wish that they get more, too. But then again, I have lost all trust in Bioware and will be content with the Tali I got. The rest of the stories, we will write ourselves.

I apologise for my caveman typing. I meant If you WANT to write a story free from compromise, THEN write a book.

Occasionally I skip words. It comes from reading too much James Ellroy.

Also: Damn it! Saved up enough creds to get the premium veteran pack and all I got was another Drell Adept. I want my Quarian Infiltrator!

Shepard's not Han Solo. XD
Keelah Se'lai.

And I agree. The ending resulted in... deflation. Past choices mattered. Peace between quarians and geth! Who'd have thought it? Then everything went up in an RGB pulse, negating choices, isolating the races.

Tis the main problem with ending, on an emotional level. So some unknown, far-future time down the road, everything is hunky dory. Great. And what about everyone we came to relate to over the series? The ones so carefully crafted to evoke an emotional response? I guess the one good thing about the endings is that they're *so* vague, a modicum of optimism allows for extrapolation into more fulfiling scenarios (at least in some cases). Thus, I'm quite sure Book Shepard will find Tali again, and vice versa. They'll get their happy ending, even if it won't be easy. Never is. But totally worth it. For them, Keelah Se'lai.

Here's to holding the line in hopes of having some good news come April. Cheers. *drinks the last glass of scotch*

Also I've somehow been able to play right up until the Cerberus Base mission a few times. I stop there though and will hold the saves there in hopes of new endings. and true, most ME2 romancers got shafted save for Garrus and Tali, and I feel for them really(especially the Thane and Jacob romancers). But...if Bioware's intention was to leave the ending as is? I don't believe I'd buy anything Mass Effect related ever again, unless it involved Tali.

Yeah, happens. And they did write books. Strangely, those were conclusive, from what I've heard. None included Tali, though, so mostly I guess they were considered to be kindling for fireplaces or something?

Hey Mad, you mind mixing me up a White Russian?

Sure thing, am on Gin Lemon today myself. It's weird. What's the Metacritic score on this thing...95? Even higher? I wouldn't grade it under 75. Only for select audiences, everybody who was fan of the first two parts will be disappointed at the end of the third, cannot be recommended for people with deep emotional attachment to stories, and your doings have no consequences at the end, so don't neglect your normal life for the game, not worth it.

Oh, and I would actually tell the ending to everybody. Sure, they'll play it with a letdown, if they play it. But it's irresponsible for any Talimancer to have to face the ending without knowing it. It's too illogical and messed up.

Thanks, Mad.
*Drinks the White Russian*

Yeah, that's kinda a dick move, but it's a better mercy then going through this game expecting the end to be just as good as the rest of the game was...

Edit: TotP!

Is it horrible that when I read the announcement saying that they'd update us in April about what they're planning that my first thought was instantly that something like This would follow?

April 1st:  Bioware: WE'RE REDOING THE ENDINGS! ................ april fools, they're staying the way they are.. but Grampa will tell a longer story about you.

****, man, don't predict the future that precisely, you'll spoil what some people of this company consider "fun".

Actually, I believe you ain't half off. But enough of that, you all got the new code of conducts message. We should at one point or another relocate, anyway. Until then, let's talk Tali.

<snip and again>

I singled that part out for comment, because I think that's a vital thing that Bioware are missing. The poor ending has a knock on effect by association. I've noticed it happening to me. Now when I think about stuff in ME1 and M2 and 90% of ME3 my suspension of desbelief has taken a huge knock and as a result I'm retrospectively critical, where I wasn't on my initial play through. It also takes a lot of the fun out of it, because now I know how meaningless most of it is. That has made me more critical of other design decisions and plot elements that don't even mess with my suspension of disbelief.

It all reminds me of Lost really (only I didn't have a crush on any of the characters there). Great promise and a stupid, pointless ending. Retrospectively I still feel that the characters were good and I'll always remember them, but now the plot just seems dumb and I'll probably never re-watch my DVDs. I certainly will never add the last season to the collection, so they'll end up second hand somewhere someday. Although I suppose that relates to another of your points, all my ME games are digital, so I can't even sell them second hand.

It also kind of reminds me of the feeling I had when I sat through Michael Bay single handedly destroying my childhood. I hope he gets killed by a giant robot some day.

Anyway, I just hope at some point they do fix it. It's a good job I do like Tali so much, or else I'd probably have walked away already.

You play the XBox?

Is Geth Pulse Rifle slang for Xbox now? No I always have been and always will be a PC gamer. No matter how much the game companies insist on ignore the capabilities of my computer (I mean one button for everything? come on Bioware, I have a whole fraggin' keyboard here!)

While Liaria did get more in this game, I have to remind myself that Liaramancers had to wait for a DLC in ME2 before they got more then just a kiss hello. Admitedly you couldn't romance Tali in ME1, but you do get her as a full on companion in all three games, so overall it roughly balances out. My only gripes for Tali in ME3 is that she's the only character you can romance that goes off with someone else (Not as bad as Jacobs thing, but it still seems like they are saying we're "unusual" for being Talimancers) and more importantly, having to play more then half the game before you get to meet her. Even skipping missions I can do later on my second time through, it still took way too long.

Of course I'm going over old ground here. The positive thing I guess is that it does seem that there is evidence that they were attempting to please a group of fans (us) with a lot of the Tali stuff, so at least in some limited regard they do occassionally listen to us. I read somewhere that Tali wasn't even going to be in ME2 until they took note of the fan support for her. Don't know if that's true. You'd think they would have to be mad to even consider not including her.

We question your judgement.

This unit was designed as a support unit.  We do not wish to rack up the most kills, rather just have fun and support teammates.

No gun truly "sucks", they just require careful tweaking and calibrations to make them effective.
