In anthropology class. We're studying German culture during the Berlin Wall. I'd find this class a hell of a lot more interesting if we were studying Quarian culture... :/

What side of our country during the Wall? And that was Quarians against Quarians, no outside source. Just that the Quarians were lead by different Shepards...

Maybe you could limit the scan to this universe instead of the mulitverse theory?

I know we're studying the inside, not sure if we're doing the outside as well. And I don't enjoy this class at all, iwillkillfortali because I'm a computer science major this class is just required because I have to take courses outiside my field of studies to graduate. And all science classes are inapplicable to this category unfortunately, so I'm stuck with social sciences, arts, and languages.
So, whaddayawannaknow, anyway? Glad to help out. I experienced some of the culture before the wall fell, I got elder brothers, parents, and I actually loved history in school. So, ask me. I will Talify the answers for better understanding.

We acknowledge. We were experiencing up to 15 second lag time while processing multiple Shepards.
It is sad, our culture is very mysterious. Although Legion explained what we understood as culture, we still have much to share.
However, we wish not to delve into detail.

We sympathize with the people who lived through that time. It as if they were exiled, not a part of existance in some people's eye...like our Creators and Geth.
We were separated for over 290 years, and we realize that in order for us to survive that coexistance was inevitable. We understand they were seperated for a shorter period of time, but destiny brought them together.
We united against the Old Machines, just as Berlin united together as one.
We admire their determination.
However, we romanticized this description. We require more insight to draw more logical conclusions.

Did you live in Berlin? Cause our study kind of focuses on the area around and inside the wall. About cultural barriers and how people interact with the wall. We're looking at a place called "checkpoint Charley" right now. But I digress, this is a Tali board, not an anthropology board.
I can talify that. No, I was in Berlin after the wall fell. But friends were before. Plus, I can tell you how we were taught to see the GDR - as "not a country, but part of Germany", kinda like "Rannoch isn't lost, it's ours and we will get it back one day". Checkpoint Charlie is what the Quarians never had, a transition point. There were however four Checkpoints, Charlie is just the most famous. We also helped people who fled at the end.
See it like that: Some Quarians helped the Geth, right? If they hadn't been killed in the war, there would've been still Quarians on Rannoch, and maybe other worlds, working with the Geth. The Western Germans saw themselves as free, which was rather strange since they were for decades strictly controlled and built up as the first line of defense - so if the Russians would ever attack, the Germans would be conquered, but basically slow them down enough for a counter offensive over France. Western Berlin - really - would never have stood a chance. Like a space station controlled by Quarians in the orbit of Rannoch, protected by, say, the Turians. As long as the Geth don't want to anger the Turians, they would leave it be and use it as a trading post and to exchange spies and political prisoners - which is hard, unless there are still Quarians amongst the Geth, of course.
But if the Geth would be willing to attack, the station would be blown to bits in seconds. That's what Western Berlin was. Also the reason parliament was in Bonn, far, far away from the potential first war contacts. And the Migrant Fleet not entering Geth controlled systems or borderlining systems. Would be far too risky.
Germany was prepared for war all the time. Parts of Autobahns could be changed into airfields by removing middle planks - one is Schleswig-Jagel, a reststop close to where my father's family originates. Several roads had tank busting devices built into the surface, ready to be primed by Bundeswehr specialists for when the tanks would come. Other bridges were primable to destroy on notice. And Germany doesn't have atomic weapons - but the US stationed them on American bases in Germany, and they still are there (will be removed soon, as far as I know). So the Quarian tradition of turning lifeships into flying dreadnought sized attackers - definitely something Germany did. And there was a bunker built under a 150 meter mountain in the Rhineland for the elite (politicians). It was never used (and never protective enough to a direct atomic strike, anyway), and now only some rooms remain as a museum.
Tali would've been considered a radical amongst Western Germans, if you consider Eastern Germany the Geth, and among the Eastern Germans she would've considered in line with the party, if you consider Western Germany the Geth. Willy Brandt is like paragon Shepard. She was accepting the borders in the East, which angered many people, he asked for forgiveness instead of trying to play it hard, he was very important to ease tensions. Luckily we never had somebody like that manic Quarian admiral wanting to attack - even the most radical of the Western German politicians knew that there was NO chance that could ever end well.
And this is harder than I thought...well, ask me anything per PM or something, if you want untalified answers to your questions.

Ahm...I come home for a quick break before going out again, and I am welcomed by the idea of Tali meeting facehuggers? What the hell is happening here when I'm not around? This is Tali! She has a full body suit, a shotgun, a sidearm and a boyfriend who at all times packs serious heat as well. Plus we could just send Geth Primes to clear about every ship, since they don't really suffer much from them, do they? And Tali is friends with the synthetics now. If facehuggers would even exist in her galaxy, she would wipe them out like Shepard wipes out Reapers.
Not to mention her boyfriend gives her homeworlds as courting gifts. Of course once you do that how can you top it giftwise.

Pretty sure it's more of a boon than anything else, knowing that any other potential suitors don't even have a hope of topping that one.

That was a really cool comparison, TrueMadayar, thanks for that.
Was kinda hard. I was taught to disrespect the GDR as a kid, in school, basically, especially where I grew up. After the wall fell, when I was a teen, I met eastern germans - very cultured, kind, not even half as radical or misbehaving as the kids I knew. I liked them. Huh. Hey, that's not far away from Tali meeting Legion, is it? Well, except for I never had to fight against eastern germans, ever.

Yeah, if you think the All-Elcor Hamlet was the reason for the peace between Geth and Quarians.
He WAS big here, though. Many American series were seen as examples of freedom. Knight Rider was one. And the American music for a long time was more popular here than our own. Well, that still is the case sometimes, however I often wonder why...we have Rammstein now. We own.
