Thane's probably too mellow to get into a dust-up with Kaidan (which is what I'm set up for at this point I guess).

I think the confrontations should be very different depending on who the two LIs are. Here are all the possible combinations:

Liara-Miranda
Liara-Jack
Liara-Tali
Liara-Kelly
Ashley-Miranda
Ashley-Jack
Ashley-Tali
Ashley-Kelly
Kaidan-Jacob
Kaidan-Garrus
Kaidan-Thane
Kaidan-Kelly

Some of these I don't see as being too dramatic at all. I doubt Kaidan would make a big scene under any circumstances, if anything I would picture him simply bowing out quietly. And we've already seen Liara's reactions to ME2 LIs in Lair Of The Shadow Broker. If anyone has a few choice words for cheatin' Shepard, I think it's Ashley, but I don't see her airing their dirty laundry in front of the ME2 LI.

Liara-Jacob
Liara-Garrus
Liara-Thane

(spoiler warning)

I was wondering if the choice to avoid the final romance scene in ME1 or ME2 will factor in to anything?

On my first playthough my Shep accidentally romanced Kaidan. I was trying to go paragon and not start up a romance, and didn't realize the dialog mistakes until it was too late. I ran with it for a while, but honestly my Shep didn't really dig Kaidan enough in the end, so at the final romance scene I picked "this is not the time" dialog option to dodge the roll in the hay. Horizon only reiterated what a good decision was for my Shep. Frankly the way it was written, it was crystal clear to me that Kaidan chose to break up with Shep on Horizon and not the other way around. There's nothing else to call it. Therefore I think it's really dishonest and unfair to call it cheating if one's Shep moves on to another LI after that. Even more so if one decides in ME1 not to consummate the relationship.

Any thoughts on whether the decision to consummate or not to consummate the romance in ME1 should effect the LI's in ME3?

Deny, deny, deny.

Well, really, we all know shep is as slick as James Bond. I can already see a thousand ways to talk your way out of this, including, but not limited to:

"I did not have sexual relations with that woman/man/quarian/turian/Drell"

"Suicide Mission. High pressure. Heat sinks had to be vented."

The afforementioned "We were on a break!".

"I thought we broke it off on Horizon."

You catch my drift. And truth be told, having it add tension to the relationship could make for some awesome storytellng. Just saying.

Making mistakes (on purpose) in video games can be as compelling as not making any at all.

Maybe we will have the option to continue both romances throough the giving of trinkets, I'm sure I did that in another game or something.

I thought when I read disloyalty we would be saying whom on ship or in the world would be disloyal to shep and lay out our cases on it.

But I see you mean if you "cheated" on past LI how will the clash work....

This is always a conflicting topic for me because Liara said she was fine with it in SB and if BW suddenly makes her not fine in 3 I'll be like, " What?" that'll have some serious explaining to do if this occurs and considering the last time she became obsessed with people who messed with her I'm screwed!

I look at the whole cheating thing like this I died my past LI moved on in the case of Liara became obsessed with the SB and in the case of Kaiden got a new girl so I as broken hearted shep decided to do the same and move on too now BW is calling this cheating and I'm like wtf? We both moved on how is that cheating when I died again? Apparently death does not do you part in BWs world.

I would like to confront Kaiden on the issue of his girlfriend and his hypocritical stance to me being with Garrus or Thane and then well maybe let the boys do the punching for once sense my fshep's hands and arms are still numb from the SB tango.

I don't think the player should loose both LI unless he/she was a **** on the issue and slept around freely with enough crewmen to get a gold star for it. I think in general whomever the player says I'm going home with that LI will have mixed feelings happy that shep choose them but also unhappy that they didn't know about the past relationship but over the game players can fix this issue.

Now if player chooses former LI the same will happen so long as they're on ship if it's a temp squadmate type of issue the player will need a longer time frame to work it out sense they can't just interact with former LI on a daily bases but it too can be worked out over game.

A third option I'd like to see is shep saying I don't want either of you! And deciding to call it quits with both feuding parties. Opening up the ability to engage with new LI or flings. I think if one or both LI on this last option are on your ship they will work on board for 1 mission time frame regardless of weather they go on this mission or not with shep and then they will email shep a letter stating they're leaving and they will no longer be on ship nor will they be a tempt squad mate for shep throughout 3.

Well on my other saves, I did thought that I was cheating on my ME1 LIs, but then after Horizon I justified it by thinking 'it has been two years. It was time to move on.' Besides I couldn't resist.^_^

If ME1 LIs are still in love with Shepard, then I will gladly anticipate the love triangle scene, but hopefully it won't be 'teenage-angsty' rather mature and still fighting for the man/woman that they love. Really, with universe on the brink of extinction, does Shepard want to handle love triangles?

I will stay with my ME2 romances even if ME1 come back with compelling lines and voice acting. (Although I will take great pleasure in hearing great lines). Because that is how my Shepard roll.

Something to consider also is the length of the romance/relationships.

For the ME1 romance, they had at most a month of time with Shepard post-sexytimes before the Normandy was hit by the Collector ship.

For the ME2 romances, they have at least six months post-SM with Shepard (ME3 starts six to twelve months after the events of ME2).

It might not mean much, after all relationship length and relationship strength are hard to correlate directly (some people get married within 2 weeks of dating, some take decades, etc.) but it's worth factoring into the equation.

Good point, another thing to consider is how the mails from Ash and Kaidan talk of that one night as if it was the only one they had together?

I can see why Bioware did this because it allows for people to consider the LI situation as just a 'fling'. One other thing am curious about is how they'll handle it if the ME2 LI died during the Suicide Mission.

LotSB actually handled this poorly, I've not done it yet with a FemShep I have who cheated on Liara with Thane and then he died, but I've done it with one who cheated on Kaidan with Garrus and then Garrus died and despite having just mentioned how I lost people, Liara's next line completely disregarded the fact that Garrus was dead when she asked if I was looking to find peace for him. I've seen a video online where someone did the main bulk of LotSB beforehand with a Jacob romance in the works with a Liara LI FemShep and then the player visited Liara post-SM where he had died and invited her to the ship and she talked of Jacob as if he was still alive. In my playthrough am going to do all of LotSB post-SM so it'll be interesting if she brings Thane up in the paragon interupt scenes during the mission.

I take issue with the fact that the word 'cheating' was even applied to Shepard's situation in ME2.

He's dead for two years and comes back to find out that his old flame has no interest in getting back with him. That applies for both Ashley and Liara, and I assume Kaidan for the Fem Sheps.

That relationship was over by any definition, and you can't cheat if you aren't in a relationship.

*That* being said you can cheat under some very specific circumstances in ME2. If you download LotSB, compete that and sleep with Liara, only to romance one of the ME2 LIs later, you cheated. Likewise if you sleep with Liara after romancing say Miranda or Tali without first breaking up, you've just cheated on them with Liara.

I have no problem with characters beign irrationally jealous over your ME2 LI even if you weren't in a relationsip with Ash or Liara at the time, but it shouldn't be described official as cheating, when it isn't. And Shep should have dialogue options to defend himself, not just a sheepish, "Uh...I'm sorry?"

I wonder whether any relationships will be assumed for characters that are from ME2 only?, this would be an especially pertinent issue for PS3 players unless that prologue do dad they have allows a choice of LI from what would have been ME1?.  If not it would surely mean that they miss out on some content for ME3.

If your ME1 LI's photo is face down in the captain's quarters, regardless of consumation or not, I believe it still has an effect.

Well that could depend on with which ME2 character you consummated a relationship, Jacob, Garrus, Thane, Tali and Jack were all fairly discrete with said event being in the Captains Quarters, whereas Miranda's was a little more "public".

I know the engine room was supposed to be sealed off but I do remember a rather funny image with the whole crew looking on through the windows.

The 'Genesis' DLC which you referred to with regards prologue, does allow the choice of an ME LI for PS3 players. It's one of the reasons why I find it a little silly how LI is considered 'optional' and yet it was classed as a 'main choice' for the comic. Although I suppose it cuts down on 'opening' romances with said characters in ME3.

As to your opening question, default Shep for PC/360 (and PS3 if didn't DL the Genesis DLC) is single in ME2 but saved the opposing sex member in the VS scenario, which counters my earlier comment about potentially starting an LI with either the VS or Liara in ME3.

Pft, if they call you a traitor and a moron, the relationship is dead in the water. If Alenko tries to be an ass about my Shepard moving onwards and upwards with Thane, he's going to get a seriously cranky talking to, before being banished.

For the sake of continuity I hope we again get to use the line "Can't I have you both?" from ME1.

I have more than one Shepard, but the one I consider the main stayed true to Liara. One that I did have fun with recently just for an M3 setup is my widow shep. I Picked Kaiden when he pressed me to choose but then let him die on Virmer. In ME2 I went with Thane and then set him up on the long walk by going with Jacob as the biotic specialist. So with Widow Shepard I have no past love interests to get in the way :) I'm just curious if the game will detect the rather short life spans of anyone who gets close to me.

Let me tell you a common way this plays out.  GF (girlfriend) finds out about OW (other woman) and confronts her.  OW had no idea there was GF or was told GF had left.  OW trys to apologise and breaks down cryiong because she never wanted to be the ow.  GF comforts OW because it is not her fault; it is the Cheater's fault.  GF and OW join up to go against Cheater; maybe give them a taste of how it feels.

You would not believe how often this happens among gay/bi community.  Would. Not. Believe.  So your little cat fight might become Liara and Miranda running off to raise little blue daughters together.  Miranda can not have children on her own and besides, she will live half again as long as a normal human giving Liara more time with her mate..

I can imagine infidelity as a ticking timebomb waiting to off but that getting hurt makes you gay/lesbian? What the... Well what do I know?

Just another argument for not entering a serious relationship unless you know yourself... Everything else is just poor taste and kind of devalueing other peoples feelings.
