But why they chose him as marketing director is beyond me?!

Well the interview is, not any of the information. It's basically a recap of things already said.
Though that is of course understandable, they revealed enough stuff at E3. We still have a loooooong way to go, wouldn't want everything revealed at once.

I wonder why this guy works as the lead marketing director?!

I'm getting really sick and tired of this Silverman hate. He's doing his job for goodness' sake, he's given game info and is told to market to a wider audience. What the hell do you expect him to say?
Truth. It's his job. You can't expect him to reveal all the companions or something...

Bioware's target audience is the kind that is impressed by these PR lines. I understand where people are coming from when they complain about Bioware's "button-awesome" lines but hating on Silverman is totally unfair.

But why was he chosen? what is so unique about him compared to other people?

He trashed a mic while being on live.
That was funny. He's eccentric I give him that.

I wish they would f**k off saying this in almost all of their interviews.

He's the DIRECTOR OF MARKETING. What did you want him to say to sell ME3? Don't play ME3 and instead pay $60+ for the first two games including DLCs or just start at ME3? <_<
That said, I want to see a dancing krogan game!

They want everyone's money and their little dog's too.

What do you people think he's going to say? "Buy all three games or you won't understand anything", because that totally doesn't sound like a money grab or terrible marketing at all

This, it doesn't make sense to enter a trilogy at the end. Bioware always praised the continuity of ME because it was made as a trilogy, now the say the games are "stand-alone adventures"it's ridiculous.

You are totally fired as marketing director!
Seriously though, do you see why they're not saying that? I really hope you do. Because if you can't see what a TERRIBLE idea it would be to say that, you shouldn't be allowed to comment on marketing at all. It's like a blind man commenting on the Mona Lisa.

I don't know anything about marketing but wouldn't they WANT to sell more copies of the first two games?
A newcomer's interest will be significantly diminished for ME3 if he's told that he won't get it or appreciate ME3 if he hadn't played ME and ME2. He'll lose interest since who wants to spend an EXTRA $40 for the previous games just to enjoy ME3? It's a hefty financial risk for the individual and one that they might not want to take.
So Bioware decides to get them suckered in with the best ME game (I hope) and hopefully they'll then buy the previous two to enjoy it even more.

Not when it detracts from the third.
Look, the only reason they're saying that is because they want new gamers to know that they can basically jump in without having to invest extra time in the previous two titles. That doesn't necesarily mean that the story is going to take a giant departure from the previous two titles, just that the plot so far will do a good job explaining itself to new players. James Vega, the new squadmate, is supposed to help fufill this endeavor by being the 'new guy' that needs things explained to him.
Also, game developers almost always repeat the same thing in multiple interviews. There is only so much they are allowed to tell us, and yet there are many people wanting interviews with them. The end result should be obvious, but apparently it isn't.
