It wouldn't be unrealistic to assume that Thane has "declined" due in large part to his condition, though, would it? Even still, he's impressive. You can't help but wonder how insane he must have been at his peak. Taking out "really bad people" on the Citadel, initiating a one-hour massacre on Omega... OMEGA! That's some serious stuff right there.

And it appears that Thane hasn't declined physically in ME2. However, if you mod him to take him to Mordin's RM, he has a line in the plague zone. Something like 'coughing and a rising temperature is often a drell precursor to... respiratory illness.' Perhaps his immune system has weakened?

I always get the feeling that he's very arrogant and doesn't ever want Kepral's to incapacitate or even affect him in the slightest. He's being an anti-disease himself. He will make the most of life so long as he knows his heart still beats. It's a fairly obvious attitude that you can clearly see reflected on him. He even says as much in the letter, if you read between the lines.
Just another wonderful side to his character, in my opinion.

I agree.
Thane would have probably been almost unstoppable at his peak. The only thing that would really stop him now is his health. They never did find out who killed those people on the Citadel. Bailey said they suspected a drell, but they never caught him. I'm still curious about that one-hour massacre on Omega.

I don't think anyone could beat Thane at his own game. Shepard's strength comes in large part from her team. Although in game Shepard has more powers than everyone else, I prefer to think that all the squad have skills that match Shepards and that it's only in leadership skills that Shepard stands above her squad. If Thane had accepted a contract on Shepard or any of the squad I have no doubt he would have succeeded whether by neck snap or sniper skill.

To be arrogant is to: make claims or pretensions to superior importance or rights; overbearingly assuming; insolently proud.
Thane knows he is the best. He has been insolent. Think of the first time he and Shepard meet. That Thane I loved. He was arrogant at that moment but overall, as time went on and Shepard got to know him, his personality showed he was humble. He did not brag, he did not patronize. Rather he simply stated his beliefs and admitted to what he took responsibility for and what he did not.
Looking at a human being over the course of their lifetime. I think Thane is even deadlier now than when he did the one hour massacre on Omega or when he did the wet work on the Citadel. Not only has he aged and matured but think of all the experience he has gathered. Not only is he the best but he has the experience to back it up.
Not only that but he has a terminal illness. He was taking risks others would not simply because he has nothing left to lose. Is that arrogant? Is that reckless? It comes down to your interpretation of Thane as a character.
In what we know about him, what we've been told, he is none of these. He is self-confident and self-assured without ever being arrogant or patronizing. That's my interpretation though.

I think some may have thought Thane was going to be very arrogant, and maybe a bit full of himself because of that one trailer with him. He did come across that way a little bit, but it didn't really bother me. I just saw someone who was good at what he did, and he knew it.

In his pre-release promotional video, Thane possibly came off as slighty 'arrogant.' But he seemed like a slightly different character in game anyway.
Besides, he doesn't need to be arrogant. He has others to pass the word that he is one of the best assassins in the whole damn galaxy xD
