The thing is about the outfit is that I realized that most if not all the turians, even Garrus, are dressed the same. Just with color variations. They do however have suit variations, but all it really is, is a color/texture swap out if you really think about it. The basic mesh is all the same. Especially with ME1, I was constantly mistaking Garrus as one of the enemy turians and shooting him.
Thane and Feron (Mr. Skittles) have the exact same head mesh, but thanks to the coloring variation of their scales(green vs rainbow!), we can tell the difference between them. In theory, just swapping out colors work.
With Thane's outfit though, it just has a very unique look when it comes to that mesh. Visually, they can't really copy paste it to all the drell like they do with the turians because it is undeniably Thane's outfit. However, copy pasting the mesh when it comes to time and development, helps things move along. I've been thinking one of the reasons they haven't officially revealed Thane yet is because he does have a new look that they are still working on. They have no problem saying he is back, there is that screenshot of a random drell that looks like him, but they still haven't shown actual Thane. It could be like a second look for the drell to make some variation. Like how the turians have they armored suit and the casual suit. It's just all the same thing still.
I guess, but Feron didn't turn out as... vibrant in the game as he did in the comic thing, and if you weren't looking closely, he looked like Thane. Kolyat's face shape and dark coloring was different from both Thane and Feron but not a world of difference between them... and then they gave them almost the exact same outfits!
I understand budget and time constraints, but come on! We only see three of them the entire game, two are related, and they all wear the exact same thing! They're not like the Elcor, who would need a whole new concept of clothing, the Drell are basically human, just make a few, different looking options.
At least the Salarians and Asari have different clothing styles and colors, and the Turians occasionally have different tribal markings and coloring.
But the Drell? Not so much. And when we only see three of them...
This is also the place where I state that I'm doing Thane's romance again and I realized that Thane's romance scenes are.. well there is a criminally short amount of them.
There's the confession, the "how are you doing x3 /desert conversation and then... the final scene before the Omega 4 relay?
Who decided
that was ok? Tali and Garrus get
at least two scenes talking about research! Jacob gets at least two talking to Shepard about various things, and Jack a good number of her own. Somebody didn't like Thane, it seems....
