Ok a LITTLE off topic....but, How do you guys think Kolyat will react in Mass Effect 3, when and if he finds out that the woman who punches him during Thanes loyalty mission, is now in a relationship with his father?

I think he'll be alright with it.
Probably not happy that he got punched by Shepard.
But happy that his father has "moved on" from Irkiah.

I don't know how Kolyat will react.  I agree with LiveLove that he wouldn't be happy at first, but he may come to understand what Shepard did.  He needed some sense knocked into him.  It will take time but I can see Kolyat getting used to Shepard and Thane's relationship.

I'm guessing Thane won't be too significant to this war. What can one assassin do? Who even needs assassinating? The Illusive Man? Still won't win the war with the Reapers.

He's also sick and dying. If anything, his use will be in sacrificially dying for good reason.

Okaay, then what was the point in giving Thane reasons and motivation to live in ME2 if nothing ever comes of it in ME3?  Thane still has room for development and use.  He may not have a large role due to his profession and illness, but that's no reason to write him off.  Thane may surprise us with something he knows or can still do.

His development may take us in an unexpected direction.

I'm kind of new, so I still learning the ropes on replying to certain comments and such, but here goes....
The Koylat situation (if it comes up) could be rather touchy. Some kids don't mind their parents moving on after the other dies/gets divorced/so on, and would be happy for them (mostly because they are older and are not fully dependent on the single parent), but others would be very resistant to the idea, and I can see Kolyat being a mixture of both. Probably resistant at first, since he was/is still grieving over his mother (blaming Thane for her death and then leaving him) and may think that Thane is trying to replace Irikah with Shepard. Shepard may have to "prove her worth", so to speak (besides helping him get a good job, though whether Thane or Bailey allow that information to slip is not known), and if/when she does, he will probably accept her as whatever role he comes to terms with.
As for his significance for the galaxy war, I think his role will be quite interesting. Every person that has been on Shepard's squad either has valuable information, skills, or connections/resources (or all of these) that will be invaluable for the upcoming war. Thane is no different. He may have an epic showdown with Kai Leng (who I am guessing will be a HUGE thorn in Shepard's side, at the very least) and as for potentially offing TIM, well, maybe Cerberus won't be a big problem any more and the Reapers loose a portion of their ground troops. Also, he has connections with the Hanar, and mockingly jellyfish like as they may be, I doubt that they will be useless. He also has been sick and dying for a while now and is still able to kill anything without breaking a sweat, and it would be rather insulting for his "use" in ME3 to be in death.
Also, is anyone playing Skyrim? I have a follower who keeps calling me "My Thane," and without fail it reminds me fondly of Thane :)

Welcome to the Thane thread:wizard:

I agree.

Although Kolyats old enough to be rational about Thane and Shepard, I'm not sure if he'd be completely happy about it because of the strained relationship between himself and Thane but he'll get over it.

Yes, I don't understand why people think Thane would not be any use in ME3, he was useful as part of a Team in ME2, there's loads of scope to develop Thane.

Skyrim's been taking over my life and I have a fangirl chuckle to myself whenever I'm called Thane...:lol:

@sohe

Thane and Shep and Kolyat at the cinema!  lol

Hes bad ass with a sniper! Snipers can  be very useful in a time like that. Believe it or not.
Epic win.

Thane being sick dosn't matter about that. If Thane is still breathing, and can put an eye to a scope and pull the trigger, hes alright.
But when he gets too his bad coughing stage, if he dosn't get cured, he will need to stop doing what he does best.
And Thane won't go down without a fight.
Another, Epic win.

Somehow, for some reason, I keep imagining Kolyat finding out like this:

The Normandy docks at the Citadel for repairs. Shepard gives the crew a week shore leave while she and a couple others on the crew hunt down supplies and workers (most of the crew died in my last playthrough) to repair the ship. She and Thane get a small apartment and spend their nights there, uh, getting to know each other outside a life and death situation.

Unbeknownst to them, the Council has ordered the arrest of the entire Normandy crew. C-Sec is called in to arrest them. Unfortunately, one of the officers is Kolyat, who has been brought along to try to convince his father to come along peacefully. The officers break into the apartment, to find Thane and Shepard either: in bed, "sleeping", "having a bath", or enacting that chocolate milk pic in the kitchen. (The first two inspired by the Breaking Dawn trailer and a couple of Thane Fanfics, respectively).

Poor Kolyat, eidetic memory would be a real ****.

I also see C-Sec not letting them clean up, and taking them in barely dressed and covered in said chocolate milk, and throwing them in a cell with the rest of the squad.

Oh I am SO mean to these poor people!

Needless to say he would not be happy with it. He would especially not be happy about his father not telling him himself. Oh
hell, even Shepard not telling him. There would be a LOT of arguments
between them. Eventually, though thoroughly unhappy about it, he may
accept it, but in this situation he would not understand.

I don't think he will be to happy with it at first. He will eventually come around I believe, but I don't think he will be thrilled.

Like Ava said, Kolyat needs time to smooth things over with his dad. He will need even more time to accept Shepard.

Welcome to the thread kirasdream! I also noticed that in Skyrim! A 'Thane' is a title that would give an individual ownership of land and a lot of prestige in Medieval Scotland. If you have ever read Macbeth, you will know what I mean.

So the henchmen that always calls you 'My Thane' is called Lydia. I got a little smirk when she called me that, I have a new henchman now though.

There is also an off screen NPC in Skyrim called 'Anders.' And Oblivion had an NPC in Skingrad called 'Garrus.'

Yes, I spend far too much time playing RPGs xD

A Thane quote that reflects my life at the moment....
“Time for me is short, siha, but any I have is yours to take.”

You know, I perceived Kolyat as a petulant little pain, cute pain but pain nevertheless. I imagine he would get an epic pout then not speak to Thane for a few days. Kolyat seems very spoiled to me. LOL

But Thane and Shepard caught in a "compromising" position, that's just hilarity at its finest! Image IPB

This is where Kolyat's memory is going to come back to bite Shepard. As awful as it sounds, my Shepard shot him to disarm him. Just because the moment I heard Kolyat open his mouth I was reminded of Raiden in the Metal Gear games and well, Raiden irritates me. I don't know about Kolyat's level of forgiveness but I know I would be less than pleased or willing to warm up to someone who shot me. I do know that him catching Thane and Shep in bed would be an epic win for me. I can hear him, "Oh by the Gods! Make it go away!! :::falls into fetal position::: It burns, it burns!!!"

I love the scene when you shoot Kolyat! If you watch closely, as he grabs his shoulder and falls, his leg bounces up into frame! It's fun to watch over and over again.  Wait, no its not. :innocent:

My husband loves the Metal Gear Solid games.

I know it's not suppose to be funny, but it's hilarious watching him just fall over like a rag doll when Shepard shoots him.

I can't believe after watching that scene that some people thought Kolyat would be a good replacement for Thane.

I just had to go back to one of my old saves today just to do it again.  I know I probably could have youtubed it but doing it myself is much better.    I wonder if Thane is embarrassed that he came all this way to save his son and he sees him get shot and turtled.

My husband was home today and actually watched it and had to ask, "Wait, isn't Thane the one you are romancing?  Why would he want too after you just shot his son?"  All I could come up with was well, maybe he realizes how funny it was himself and grateful that she didn't do more than just wound him.

Damn I'm going to have to start up a renegade FemShep so I can see this. I only got the Paragon option. Though the look of utter stupified disbelief on his face was priceless when Shep elbowed him in the face.

I just don't do the Paragon interrupt, then the wheel will come up with Disarm or Shoot Hostage, choose to Disarm Kolyat.  Heh heh, then it's turtle time.  I do like to Paragon interrupt too just so I can see that look on his face when I smack him.

Thane probably thinks Kolyat needs it.

Thane doesn't say anything if you puch or shoot Kolyat, but if you kill Talid he doesn't seem to agree with that method.

Thats what I thought was odd.
I figured it would be the same , but in reverse.
Thane getting ticked cause you elbowed his son in his face or shot him in the shoulder. But nope, he just keeps a ..sad expression. Pretty much his basic expression, if not loyal.
If you kill Talid it seems too me that Kolyat likes you a bit more though. But Thane dissaproves.

I've always thought that , that seen wasn't.."well" written. When Thane and Kolyat talk, that is a very wonderful moment, but everything else seemed off imo. With the options, it seems you can be like Kolyat, and be just...a wrong person in that scene. Or be a Thane type of person and do things peacefully, even though punching Kolyat isn't really nice..
Funny scene to watch though.

That is hilarious as always.
Funny thing is, my computer is running slow, so when I see this, it's going in slow motion.
Makes it even funnier ^_^

Honeslty though, when you shoot Kolyat , I wonder what Thane is feeling..thinking.

That always makes me laugh.

I think Thane does care, but I also think Kolyat needs a reality check. Did he honestly though he was going to walk out of there? It's not that easy to be an assassin. He looks shocked if Shepard hits him. He just falls over if you shoot him, and he looks scared if Shepard kills Talid.

Shooting him might have been a bit much, but Shepard got her point across. I also think she only grazed him.

It probably was just an oversight on biowares part not having Thane react.
