Hn, you guys know that artist that did those amazing pics of Renegade Shepard, and Miranda, and Garrus and Legion and Jack and Grunt and Thane?

Well I just noticed on the Thane one.... he didn't fuse Thane's fingers.... >_<;

Is patryk-garrett the guy you're thinking of? patryk-garrett.deviantart.com/

Wow, you're right. He didn't. We must tell him that.

Edit. Just did.

Yup, that's the one. It's my desktop background right now and I was just staring at it and staring at it and staring at it... then I went, OH.

Yeah i noticed that one too.  Image IPB

Who and where in Skyrim is this Thanesque Argonian? I want to meet him! :D

Is he the one at the Bee and Barb?

Hmm... Could be? If there is a Thanesque Argonian, he would fit the description. ^_^

He is "Scouts-Many-Marshes" in Windhelm, by the docks.  He is really sweet (but that may just be the standard dialogue for wooing and marriage).  The Bee and Barb one can be Thanesque too (great word btw).  Just for the record, anything resembling a lizard reminds me of Thane, so yeah....

So what are you ladies' opinions on the alien factor? :alien::wub:

As to the previous topic, Thane's looks were never the reason my Sheps romanced him. It was always his personality. Same with my Garrusmance.

I've never looked at the aliens and thought, "alien." To me, Thane was always Thane. Garrus was always Garrus, Tali was always Tali, Samara's Samara, Grunt was Grunt and Mordin was Mordin. They were just people to me.

If the human species does come across aliens and we are eventually able to communicate in my lifetime, I would like to think that this same attitude would cross-over into RL. But if we're being honest with ourselves and each other, it probably won't. The fear of the unknown is deeply routed in the human psyche, and it would take a while to adapt individually, and what would seem like forever to do so culturally.

To be honest, I don't think humans as a whole are ready to make contact with an alien race. We can't even communicate properly with members of our own species who share 'radically' different viewpoints. We just can't even begin to cope with a truly alien viewpoint. Not yet.

Read the second paragraph above for the majority of it. But now that i think about it, there is definitely a hit of the 'exotic' about the aliens that lures me to them in the first place. Not the looks, like I said (though some smart chika said yesterday that Thane just oozes sex, which he does I do have to admit:wub:) but their different ways of viewing things. An it's just natural for humans for things to eventually take on a physical nature of some description. And if you spend enough time with an alien to become close enough friends, i think that the physical differences wouldn't matter so much.

Not in a fictional world, anyway...

So other people noticed that too.  It's a small detail that's easy to miss, but still.

Of course I find him sexy his looks never bothered me. I think out of the tree drell we have seen thane is the best looking. Kolyat not so much. I just don't find him attractive at all. I think Feron is very cute.

Did anyone have a problem with the way Thane looked? Did his looks have to grow on anyone?

I have a friend who likes Thane, but just isn't a fan of the reptile look.  Thane's looks never bothered me much since I like dragons and they're already scaly.  Same reasoning applies to Garrus. =3

I agree with mythlover20 on the alien question.  They're people like everyone else.  Of course I see the "alien" part of the other ME characters, but it's not a concern for me.  Anything physical is a temporary, easily ignored reaction.  Now how I would react in reality is debatable.

Thane is drop dead handsome.  I think Kolyat's endearing.  After seeing his performance during Thane's LM I wished there was something I could do to make him feel better.  I understood how he felt.  I find Feron cute as well.  I don't know if he would react positively to being called that, but he is.  Like kirasdream stated, I think the humanesque features are where some of the Drell's appeal lies.  Thane's alien, but not too alien.

@mythlover20
I've had a couple of dreams about Thane as well.  ...I'm conflicted about how I should feel about that.Image IPB

Kolyat seems just a lighter shade of green than Thane, but I perfer Thane than Kolyat of course.B)

And also, when I first seen a picture of Thane I was highly mad at my one friend for suggesting I would like him.
I had blistering furry wrote on my face hahaha.

And then it hit me.. I just.. didn't mind it.
To me I see Thane as human. He's just ... Thane.
And I accept it!<3

I see Thane as an alien with human fetures. Him having some of those human is probably one of the reasons I think he's attractive. It's the same reason I can't really find Garrus that attractive. I love his character, and did the romance, but he's a little to alien looking for me. At the same time I think Liara is to human looking. She's just painted blue with those tenticals on her head.

Thane of course has a wonderful personality with a great voice and that just added to it for me. When I first saw him I just thought he looked so interesting. This was before the game even came out.

My husband was playing that yesterday, and that's the race he chose to play. I told him I thought his character was ugly.
He thinks it's so strange that I find the Argonian unattractive, but Thane very attractive. I guess I'm weird that way.

I love Garrus, hes the bro I wish I had. I can't bring myself too romance him cause I get this "Hannah what the heck are you doing?" moment in my head. It's not of my love for Thane. Its just you romance people who are your alien bros. Like the Mario Brothers in a way..
Anyway, ya I agree on Liara, its like them things are glued on there. I can't due a romance with Liara either, well one cause I'm female, and two.. I get this strange feeling like her tentacles are gonna grab my face or something.

Thane's romance just suits me. I love his personality , his Drell featuers, I just love it. And I hope BW dosn't do anything to change that.
I've had female Shepards who romanced everyone, but there romances aren't like Thane's.
His is just..pure in a way. His is like Milk Chocolate. You like Milk Chocolate, or you don't
And of course, Thane's voice just...brings me to another planet:wub:
*Sighhh*

*Sorry for massive talking. I have a habbit of being a talker. One of my worse traits:pinched:*

Thane has just the right amount of 'alien factor' he's like a very exotic human and this is a very important part of why he's my favourite ME LI.

If Thane had a different voice and script can't be sure whether I would consider him as a favourite LI or not but it would not necessarily rule him out.
However If Thane was a less compatible alien such as a Turian or Quarian it wouldn't matter how amazing his voice was, I would not pick him as a LI for my shepards.

I do love the character of Garrus and he's always a good buddy but the physical differences are way too great for me to consider him as a plausible LI for my Shepards. Kal Reeger's awesome and if he wasn't imprisoned in an environment suit, prone to every infection in the galaxy, and built from different DNA then maybe it would work but as he and all quarians have all those compatibility problems I can't buy into them as LIs.

The only time I ever went "Ack! Stop whatever that is right now!" Is when Thane slips into a memory and his eyes get funny and he looks a little bit like a crazy. I have the outfit pack thing for him with the sunglasses though and I never let him wear it unless I am romancing Garrus, cause I miss his eyes to much. But if I am to romanceGarrus he needs the glasses, cause one hit from those doe eyes... I am done in.

I never likied the alternative appearance packs. they just don't look right. the original character design has always seemed more them to me.

i do agree about the eyes though. i tried to do a garrus romance on my first playthrough, ended up with thane after the SM. i just couldn't resist him.

In regards to the 'alien' factor of Thane's character, I have been more attracted to the aliens of Mass Effect because I play a RPG to get out of realism, and go into a realm where imagination can run wild. This is why I feel closer to the alien characters, because I they aren't things I interact with day in and day out, and they allow me to tap into my imagination. I play a game to immerse myself into a non-realistic world. And Thane does that for me.

However, there is a quote that I think is very applicable for this topic, and it happens to be my favourite quote in the whole game, and rather striking in its simplicity:

Kaidan - 'Aliens are jerks and saints, just like us.'

I love that whole conversation with Kaidan, and I couldn't agree more with it.

I nerver had a problem with the way the alien LI's look ( or any alien for that matter ), for me what matters is his/her personality and if there's a believable bond between him/her and my Shep.

And....It's a video-game, so if the game allows it, why not try it?

Also no matter how alien Thane is, he actually looks very human...just change his skin color, give him a wig and you are pretty much done! :wizard:

Each Argonian in Skyrim has the same voice, which to me sounds like Budget Garrus. Worlds better than the Oblivion Argonian voice, but still.... half the time I just want them to say the word "calibrations" so I can see exactly how similar it is.

I also considered "marrying" Scouts-Many-Marshes for pretty much the same reason, but ended up with Onmund, an apprentice at the mage's college. (I'm the arch-mage...that... that seems a little....off somehow.) He's got a gigantic ape-jaw, but he makes awesome apple pie.

...and the argonian at the bee and barb will not leave me alone. I'm in there, minding my own business and trying to change the business ledger... and he follows me. EVERYWHERE.

Also, an Argonian assassin from the Dark Brotherhood saved my behind once. Ah, Veezara. Awesome dude.

Now back to our regularly-scheduled Thane programming.

@Shepenwepet LOL I had a khajit following me everywhere in Rifton, turns out she was an assassin. So, you never know.

As the physical attractiveness of Thane. To me he is attractive due to: physical traits, personality traits his behavior and his knowledge.

I like that as a female Shepard you are talking to him as an equal and he treats you as an equal. He has a streak of pride not not arrogance. He knows he's good and can understand what that means. To me, it's more along the line of Thand being a total package. He has good aspects, he has bad aspects but he is so, humane, that it works. That is what I find attractive.

For me as a woman, it's more than just mere looks or even personality. It's about how this character makes me feel. That is the best part of what Thand is as a character. :)

Do you think that Thane is more alien in his thinking than someone like Garrus? I sometimes wonder if that's why some have a hard time relating to him.

Well, I think yes. Religion wise for Thane, he says that his body and soul are seperate right?  I suppose since that is the way he was brought up to think about things (ex. killing someone whom doesnt deserve it) but who knows? Garrus DEFINIALTY has an alien was of thinking for a turian. Thane though, since not much is actually know how drell go about doing many things, aside from what Thane tells you about the hanar/drell relationship. Image IPB

In looks, Garrus definately looks more alien. The exo-skeleton look, a completely different body structure (although still humanoid) and the mandible and head fringe. But in terms of actual personality, drell are definately more alien.

They have solipsism and can remember everything in perfect detail. They have a certain stoicness, and a very poetic way of speaking (Feron is the same. Kolyat not so much.) Whereas turians, in terms of personality, just seem to be militaristic humans.

Random quote time:

"And so the Wheel of Fire mills another soul. Entropy wins. Entropy always wins."

There is actually some interesting trivia to this quote that I, for one, was unaware of. The phrase "wheel of fire" seems to have an established meaning in literature, which, according to good ol' Wikipedia, is:

In a literary context, the Wheel of Fire may refer to the chain of tortuous or dire consequences that result from a single action.

The same article explains:

The Wheel of Fire is part of the Aristotelian reading of a tragedy (e.g. plays), which includes the central flaw within a character. In Shakespeare's tragedy Othello, the flaw in Othello himself is his vulnerability to jealousy and his tendency to believe Iago, who is manipulating Othello into believing his wife is unfaithful. As a result of this flaw Othello loses a loyal friend, murders his wife, and is driven insane before eventually committing suicide. In this scenario the Wheel of Fire begins with the action of Othello trusting Iago and consequently the other events occur.

The Wheel of Fire is most commonly applied to the protagonist within a tragedy (i.e. the hero) and may aim to provoke sympathy from the audience when the hero falls from grace (this purging of emotions is known as catharsis), though it also adds dramatic interest to the performance.

In relation to Kolyat and Thane, I think this is quite interesting. Another fascinating piece of trivia from Thane.

The wheel of fire originated in Greek mythology as the punishment for Ixion, who was bound to a wheel of fire for lusting after Zeus' wife, Hera.

Ixion was the king of Lapiths. Interesting note to you, Fiery, Ixion was the son of Phlegyes whose name connotes "fiery."

I hurt, I am running a renegade playthrough for Garrus, and I have enough trouble being a renegade cause I refuse to kill Samara or be mean to my crew. so it's very had to get my score high enough. I think Thane hates me. Made the mistake of bringing him with me on Samaras dossier mission and of course Jack and I had to bet on how far the high little Volus makes it before Wasea ate him alive and before we enter the room Thane goes:

"More blood on my hands"

I broke a little. Plus by crew I mean Doc, Gabby... small timers. I was pretty mean to Thane calling him out all the time. He isn't like Fenris in regards to dishing it or laughing it off, he actually apologizes for being to whiney! I was very RL talking to the screen "No it's not you Thane... its me." *sob* Renegade is hard to do.

I love the way Thane speaks. I could really listen to him for hours and not get bored.

I always thought it was just the way Thane spoke. I never really noticed it with Feron. I need to go back, and play LotSB. Kolyat just sounds like your typical angry teenager to me. He definitely does not share his fathers way of speaking.

They all have a sort of underwater effect to their voices, Which is why I was surprised that they live on a natually dry planet. Thane was supposed to be my mythological equivilant to a merman. But Alas, it was not to be. Apparently living in the Hanars oceans is actually killing him. Bastards.
