I was drawn to Thanes character because he is so...gentle somehow.

From all my playthroughs with Hawke/Warden/Shepard, I have this strange love for my femShep romancing Thane because; My femShep Friera is such a hardass woman (renegade) who get the job done regardless of how brutal it is. She is a stonecold woman in many ways. But whenever she is with Thane, she seems so warm and they are holding hands and talking about going on vacation etc. Such a sweet tender romance, which complement my femShep in every way. It´s just..perfect.

I simply love this game...

On another topic; why does Thane have gill-like (on his cheeks) anatomy like a fish, when humidity kills him? I think that was a strange choice of the designers.

Not that Im complaining... :)

Thats actually really great to have a renegade FemShep who romances Thane,  and he brings out her soft side.
Friera, I think you just inspired me to make a FemShep like that

EDIT: Oh hi ToP!

That's a great description of Thane's romance, and ver true.

I have never been able to be complete renegade. It's hard for me to do some ot the things that Shepard has to do. One day I may force myself to go through with it.

Maybe Thane was suppose to be more like a fish in the beginning of his design.  They reminde me a little bit more of a cobra though. Honestley I'm not sure why.

I think the people who made Thane said his design was based off of Abe Sapien off of Hellboy

In case you haven't read this (it's a great read) here's some behind-the-scenes info on Thane's design:

The Creation of Thane

In my eyes, he's a mix of Abe Sapien, a zora from the Zelda series, and a healthy dose of green paint.

Oh, and a voice that sounds like velvet dipped in honey then rolled in chocolate.

I remember reading that .

I'm glad they asked and listened to the women in the office. I don't know how he might have turned out if they hadn't.

I actually quite like the first picture on the first page, the one on the top left. but with the voice i think it would have gone a bit too far into Sten territory.

Although I do love Sten. Gosh, I haven't played Dragon Age in forever.

I like those pitures also. He might have been a bit too human looking though.

Until I read that article I had no idea that the earring were suppose to always be there.

I've never seen that before. I'm intrigued by the notion that they used Abe as a reference for Thane. He always had that intellectual thing going for him that made me like him, even though he was a fish. Thane has that too.

I'm starting to see a pattern here. lol ;P

I liked seeing the process they went through to finalise his physical appearance. And I too am glad they got outside opinions during his creation. Especially since the concept artists were male, and are not really going to know how the women Thane was intended for are going to think.

I'm also very glad they ditched the bird of paradise idea. It would not have melded with Thane's character, by which I mean personality. Those feathers, and those earrings now that I think of it, would have made him seem too vain, and diminished his maturity. That's why I don't like the alternative appearance pack. IMO it doesn't so much as create a new aspect of his character, as create a conflict with his established personality. Makes him seem, well, like an adolescent. I mean I could see him caring about his appearance as an adolescent, and while he was with Irikah, but after she died, I can't see him doing anything more than necessary while in his battle sleep. <_<

The Abe Sapien reference makes me wonder what inspired Thane's writer while he was writing the character.

Please ignore my last post. Even I don't even know what I was on about.

Actually the clash between Thane's possible "bird of paradise" look and his personality as it is now could have been interesting if pulled off. It might have made him more alien, but I also understand why they ditched it.

I'm pretty happy with the look that he ended up with. I'm not really carzy about some of the ones he started out with.

Thane story is very similar to the classic noir story. ( At least I think so.)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Beloved wife killed by villains, and a complicated relationship with his family, and revenge, and guilt, and opposition to society, and love as salvation. Noir, even as the Thane spoke of their memories. It would seem, without emotion, there is nothing superfluous, only the most necessary, and as a black and white picture is added bright red, and he suddenly says something that makes it a lively and memorable. I love noir. I love Thane.

Just to drop in and say:
Estimated time for some new information on SOME characters will be released sometime in January.
It will be the middle of January or a few days before February. Slight chance it come sooner.
Hope some info comes in on Thane! But I don't really think so since they released that mission with Thane for the Hanar.

I must  say Im prepared for the worst...
Why make a love interest who (apparently) is someone very important for Shepard, just to cast them away? Although I never have been able to play the first ME (Mac/PS3...), I can imagine the Ashley/Kaidenfans felt really cheated on by their apparence.. or lack of apperance... in ME2.
If its the case with Thane - He stubles in just for 2 minutes, I will get -so- dissapointed. And I have a feeling this will be happend in ME3...

But then again - Thane was in the CG opening and most of the promos.. He was very "publicated" as a part of ME2 release. I cling to that hope.

Shepenwepet:
Yeah, I have seen the making-of Thane. Im an artist myself, and it was a very interesting read! They did a good job!

FallTooDovahkiin:
As I said, so far, from my multiple playthrough og DA:O, DA2 and ME2, the renegadeShep and Thane holds a special place in my heart!
Although I have yet to achieve 100% renegade, (almost 90% though) because there are just some few things I simply couldn´t do!

Let's stay optimistic! We have him for a whole main mission. And I imagine that his aid on Invictus (if that information is correct) will contribute very highly towards taking care of the reapers. Also, I am excited to discover more about the Hanar, after not seeing much of them in ME2.

And I had realised that Drell looked similar to Abe Sapien before as well actually xD Although when it comics, I have always been more into the X-men ones :)

I am indeed too, preparing for the worst.
I'm not going to cling to Thane just yet, I gotta wait and see what happens in Me3.
If he only gets that mission, I'll be one clingy person! xD

Just everyone rememeber to do a save right before his mission, they way all possible outcomes can be gone through. If their is a chance of him living , even with my unspoiled femshep no way am I accidently losing him. Eesh. March is way too far away.

I too do this. Autosave has save me a couple times but even right now I am suffering from lack of a save, going back feels lame.

Yeah, me too. I've ruined a couple of Skyrim quests and I won't go back because the last time I saved was three towns, two quests ago, and a dragon ago. <_<

Also, I just introduced Thane to my mother, whom I care for. She was pleasantly surprised by my description of him as the Sir Sean Connery of the Mass Effect Universe.

I wonder if we can get Keythe to do the letter in a scottish accent? :P lol No not really.

Yeah, and I imagine that on the 9th of March, everyone will be saying how their mission with Thane went. And we can all give feedback on how to get him to survive if it is an option. Then again, looks like we are getting more info in January, so who knows, maybe we will know by then ;)

I usually have a billion saves so that I can go back and do things differently if needed.

I just saw that Ash's VA read her letter. Here's hoping that Thane's will do the same.

Hello. Thane is a cool character. When I get a chance I'll make a Shepard to romance him, and I hope Keythe reads the letter for you Thane fans. It made the wait for Kaidan and Ashley in ME3 much easier when their respective VAs did so.
