It also "ends" metaphorically. There have been ample studies showcasing how it could mean a transformation and not a finale, but few people ever even remotely entertain such a lower-key notion given the cacophony of doomsday drama.

With this I totally agree.

I still think that the Mayan calendar has little to do with it, but this year events clearly show that something is changing or is trying to change. Revolution is everywhere one way or another just look at Egipt, Libia or Siria for example, or the "Wall street movement" and "Los Indignados" in Spain.

Theres some Thane missing in my post.... let me make up for it :P

To add my two cents, I think the outfit with the red looks better.

In other news, I just had an adventure with Thane. I was spacing out and failed to update him when we were following Kolyat's target causing me to fail his loyalty mission. I knew it was possible to not get his loyalty but I didn't expect that. I had to reload and do it again. Ahh, the difference in knowing and understanding. Then, when I was talking to him back on the Normandy after I completed the mission properly the game glitched mid-conversation.
The screen is froze on this:

Thane still blinks and every now and again Shepard's shadow will cross his face but I can't do anything. lol

Yeah, I've had quite a few freeze-ups myself, though they're usually on loading screens or in the middle of combat. I just turn it off and on again and it usually works. Though I've never gotten a good screenshot like that one, even if I wasn't on the PS3.

Happy new year!!

Here's a video with Thane to celebrate:  Link :wizard:

I personally think that end of the world theories are nothing but bull**** born from ingnorance.
Things don't "just end".

The end of the world has been foretold since humanity's dawn. People freak out every time we change of century or milenia, and some people go as far as commiting suicide, yet time and again the world keeps spinning on its center.

So I would like to know who was the smartass that decided Mayan culture was an authority in foretelling world's end, and them and only them will get it right.... as far as I'm concerned the Mayan calendar ends that day because they couldn't get a bigger stone, or like with computer's "2000 effect" they just didn't plan that far ahead.

I'm not a really big poster in the ME section, and despite Thane being one of my favorite squadmates, I don't post here either.

However, I'm in the mood for some good stories featuring my favorite drell assassin. Any recommendations?

Well, I don't know if it's good or not (probably not) but I just posted my first ff on fanfic just now. it's just a little one-shot i came up with a couple of hours ago. Hell, it's not even 400 words long!

Im doing my second playthrough romancing Thane. And I .. kinda feel jealos over Thanes ex-wife! Makes my awesome Shep seem.. like a substitude or something compared to the crazy stories Thane tells about his ex. Like "the memory of her possessed and endowed me" and  "I trew myself to the ground, begging for her forgiveness" (or something)...

I kinda wish Shep was the only true love!

@Friera. I do as well sometimes, but it is a natural feeling. I think the fact that he had a wife gives him an emotional depth unlike any of the other LI, in that he has loved and lost. I see it as he loves very few people, but those people mean everything to him. As his love and reaction for his wife's death were very strong, it is like a privelage to be the only other woman that he has loved ( I think; even though he is fictional).

Also, with the infatuation, I imagined when he first saw Irikah he was quite young, and thus more prone to be influenced by hormones (not that his admiration and love were not insincere). He is in his early fourties when he meets Shepard, and thus probably has mellowed out a bit, not to mention he was in a "battle sleep" for ten years. May be a bit slower to regain hold on a lot of emotions.

Strange because I do not think that when Thane talks about Irikah, but it seems like I should. Thane is (according to our knowledge) the only LI with a prominent former lover. One who he still loves if he could. But to me, this means that Thane has more experience where love is concerned, and this is obvious in the romance arc with him in comparison to other LIs who are often less sure/awkward.

Although, I still certain that we was deeply in love with Irikah, just that he loves Shepard as well, for different reasons. He says that few are privileged to ever meet one Siha, nevermind two. Irikah has died, therefore Shepard shouldn't feel bad for filling in the whole where she was in Thane's life. But it differs from person to person I guess.

Yeah. I agree with the two of you. Still have a feeling Irikah was even more special somehow. Tsssk >_>

Still feels more real than the Miranda romance . (althoug I liked it!) Haven´t tried the others though.

Omg! Just ditched Thane now - just to see the conversation. Shep said she could never replace Irikha, and he said "you wouldn´t.  But I hope you don´t mind I will always carry you in my heart."  Very cute.. and none macho XD
He does accept defeat easily though, compared to the wife. No  begging with Sheppy :P

Thane isn't in his early fourties when he meets Shepard. He's only 39.

I really don't mind when he talks about his wife. I actually enjoyed listening to him. I also wasn't really jealous of her. Thane did love her, but she's also gone. After a while Thane doesn't really mention her anymore. I think it's good that he had a past love. He's one of the only LI's who does. I also have never felt like Shepard was a replacement. If I thought she was I never would have done the romance. Thane says you can love more than one person in your life. I think he gets a little insulted when Shepard even sugests she might be some kind of replacement. I also have a shepard who romanced Kaidan first and then Thane. She has a past love and so does he.

I know that him having a wife is one of the reasons some people didn't want to romance him. It doen't bother me that Shepard isn't his one and only love. He loves Shepard too. His letter in LotSB proved that.

Lol my bad.  I was going by ME3 time which is set in the next year after ME2, in which he turns forty.  But in the purpose of my original statement, he is 39 at the time.

As he confessed his fear and even cried in front of Shepard, no, no doubt whatsoever.

Strangely I don't feel jealous of her. From what Thane tells you of her she seems like a great lady. I actually feel a fondness for her. She made Thane happy and gave him a son and a full life. I'm weird though.....Image IPB

You and I know that, but  unfortunately there are still some who think Shepard is just a replacement for his wife. I had someone tell me that just the other day. They see the romance scene as Shepard taking advantage of a vulnerable man.

Love the fanart Lyd.Image IPB

Not me,

I really can't get over folks who think that sheps callously taking the place of Irikah.  Irikah died when Thane was 29 years old, you would expect him to have moved on after 10 years.  If she had not died in such horrific circumstances and he had not felt responsible he would quite likely have moved on much sooner and to do so would have been completely normal.

Thane goes into his relationship with Shepard because he's falling in love with her I think its quite patronising to the character to imagine that he's not man enough to make that decision.  It seems that some people expect the bereaved to become celibate which I think is very silly indeed.

Ummm....No.  I had no doubts, I saw it plain as day but then again I can understand loving more than one person, losing someone and loving again.  I loved my ex husband and I love my current husband.  Both were different loves as I was 20 when I married the first time and young and kinda stupid.  LOL.  I remarried at 35 and such I was older and bit more mature (not really but I think you understand).  Knowing love and having it lost, I KNEW what love truly was when I met Paul, it meant more as I carried with me the knowledge that it can be lost and to not take it for granted.  I love my husband with a depth that I did not love my former husband.  Do I believe Thane carries with him some or all of that same knowledge, yes I do.  I never saw Shep as a replacement nor his love for her diminished because he had loved before.  Thus, having loved and lost, he would cherish and embrace it more than he would have if Shep had been his only love.

Ugh, I have also replayed this game more times than I care to admit and I have to finally say it... I have never "broken" up with Thane not even to see the dialogue because I just couldn't hurt his feelings.  Sad but true.  I can't even bring myself to youtube search the dialogue.  I also have no game plays where Shep romanced anyone else, except ManShep who went for Jack.  I have tried but if only I could avoid Life Support, I suppose it could be possible.

I never doubted Thane's love for Shepard, for all the reasons stated above (I won't repeat everything again). I am disappointed though that there are people who think the love scene was Shepard taking advantage of the man. I have always viewed it as Shepard comforting him in the most basic way possible, because words were not enough. When she tries (the "just nerves" dialogue option) he murmers an agreement  and leaves. He seems rather unconvincing, he doesn't believe her platitudes, and I think looks a little sad as he leaves. The "be alive" option is just a woman comforting her man the only way she can. At least that's how I interpret it.

The pic's very nice Lyd!

I never doubted that Thane loved Shepard either. It just seemed obvious from the romance scenes.

I agree with this. My FemShep wouldn't be jealous either, for the reasons you said. Irikah will always be an important part of his life, and she wouldn't want it any other way.

When Thane confess to you he also comments that he never felt affection for other species and is unsure as what to do.

I would be liying if I said that it was then when I realised that Thane loved Shepard, but at that moment is pretty obvious that he really has strong feelings for her.

As for being his wife replacement... never crossed my mind. Just because you loved someone else before doesn't mean you can't love again, neither does that invalidate the love you felt for that person once.

In Thane's case Irikah died, but there's plenty of relantionships that end not because they don't love each other but  because things just don't work.

Everybody has a past, my ThaneShep loves Kaidan but we all know how things went on Horizon... so she decided to move on, that doesn't make her feelings fake.

I personally think that the way Bioware wrote Thane makes him a more believable character, he had a life, so do we all.

Yes I saw that...and to be honest if it's set in stone Im happy with that scene. Instead of pathetic Horizon scene and definetly impossible for me romance continuation with Kaidan ( if again leaked dialogs are true) I get something heroic and beautifull ( especially line with Thane " memories" about Shepard)..After spoilers now Im sure that Thane is the best LI for me...ekhm my Sheps of courseImage IPB
