I hate that I am like that... I love a lot of the ME2 cast, but obsessily have favorized Thane.. So for me, if he has just one mission, or dies, I will probably like ME3, just not love it. And it will probably ruin my fantasy of my Sol Shep true love with Thane and they will spend rest of his time together. BW must have a damn good excuse for seperating my Shep with Thane.
(I know its kinda lame my brain works that way...)
I know its off-topic, but I wished I had gaming friends T_T Im blessed with a lot of very good, close friends whom I do a lot of fantastic things with, just none who I can share one of my biggest interest with. Its kinda lonely...
Oh well, of jogging then.

Everything you just wrote is how I feel. Except I did play ME1 multiple times even though I never got attached to any of the characters. ME2 is actually the first game where that has happened.
I know that my enjoyment of ME3 is going to go down if he's only availible for one mission, and especially if he is dead. I will still buy the game, but I won't play it as much as ME1 or 2.
I know Bioware will probaby give us an excuse, but I don't know if it will be a good one. I want to know why they gave us these characters in ME2 if all they were going to do was take them away. I don't recall anyone asking for twelve squadmates. That was their idea, and so to fix it they decide to sideline the other LI's. How are we suppose to have any kind of satisfactory conclusion to this relationship with one mission.

I'm exactly the same. I played DA:O a total of about 9 times on two different platforms and have played ME2 twice and started on the 3rd and 4th. I'm only on my first ME1 playthrough but I can say for a fact that unless i come into possession of a real gaming pc that I can play ME3 on I won't be playing it again. The story has always been what entraps me and the ME1 story is severely lacking. The characters of ME2 and DA:O and their respective character arcs and the overall story arc were engaging and, though not real, a hell of a lot more 3 dimensional and interesting than ME1. Also I hate the controls and no amount of customisation has fixed it so, yeah.
ME2 invested a lot in it's story, they gave us characters we could relate to. They made us care for them. Giving Thane, or any LI for that matter, since they were the ones most invested in, only one mission and then killing them off is a disservice not only to the fans, but to the writers themselves. There is such a thing as artistic integrity, and doing that to their characters that they spent years creating and moulding betrays said integrity.
I'm not holding out hopes though. I'm expecting the worst. At least that way if I'm wrong I'll be pleasantly surprised, rather than bitterly dissapointed.
Sorry if I sound cynical. I'm just a passionate believer in artistic integrity. We writers have a responsibility to our characters. I mean, just because they live inside our own heads, doesn't mean they're not real people.
I still want Thane to live. If he dies my Shepard won't be too far behind.
Also Fieria, I don't have any gaming friends IRL either. At least none that aren't half a world away. It does get lonely. But you have us! *HUG*

If they were not going to make this an option they should not have included a possible treatment in the LoTSB dossier nor allowed any mention of 'medigel for the lungs' in the CDN, rather they should have made it seem completely hopeless. Stringing the fans who care along seems a bit mean.

Yeah, Im hoping for the best but expecting the worst regarding Thanes apperance in ME3.
Still strange though, he got so much screen time and advertisement in ME2. (I just LOVE the cinematic in ME2. Prob watched it 20 timesish.) Id expect him to have a bigger role.

Well... I am going to have to remind you of the great words of Bluto (John Belushi) from Animal House.
Otter: Looks like I missed something
Boon: Yeah you did. We're all officially kicked out of school. Wormer just got our grades.
Otter: They kicked us out of school? Huh. That makes sense.
Bluto: Hey what's this lying around ****?
Stork: Well What we suppose to do you moron!
D-Day: War's over, man. Wormer dropped the big one.
Bluto: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter: Germans?
Boon: Forget it, he's rolling.
Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...
[thinks hard, room is quiet]
Bluto: The tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! Com'on! Ha!
[runs out, alone; then returns]
Bluto: What the f**k happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? This could be the greatest night of our lives but your going to let it be the worst. "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my a** from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer!
Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these b*stards. Now we could fight them with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No. No. No, in this case I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.
Bluto: We're just the guys to do it.
[everyone stands]
Boon: Let's do it.
Bluto: LET'S DO IT! AHH!!!!! Go! Go! GO!
Now, we could let the death of Thane brings us down. We could wallow in our loss and sadness or we could look at our time here, what this character has brought into our lives and be thankful. No matter what happens. No matter if Thane dies, or doesn't continue on, its what we gained from this experience that is important.
Now, come back to the light, bring your joy, your sorrow, your happiness and your pain. Come back and talk about Thane Krios. The kicka** Drell Assassin we all know and love. Let me see the joy in this thread again.

As for Martin Luther King Jr., he is going to be infinite as everyone will remember him for next eternity since he has a holiday. As for us normal people, we have to fight for our infinite remembrance as well, so no reason to look down on Thane's possible death as our loss but for his gain in not suffering anymore.. I wonder how it would be to have my own holiday. Maybe on our next Independence Day.

Seriously, yeah. After seeing the dossier, I was like, "Okay, this is ON. He's gonna live!" It would be so pointless to give us hope if he wasn't.wildannie wrote...
I really hope we're not disappointed but I can't help but hope/expect that we will not be. If there is no choice with Thane and no chance to save him I don't think Bioware could offer any reasonable justification to fans.

I would love to see a Thane that is divorced from the whole wife/son thing. I want to get to know him, not his job, not his past, him. We deserve that, I think.
In retrospect, I realized that whatever happens, Thane knows who Shepard is. He isn't the type to forget anything about her. He's the perfect supportive lover without being sappy or spineless at all. He is, as of ME2 at least, the best male FemShep LI in my book. Kaidan has the epic romance arc, Garrus is adorable and a great old friend, Jacob is built, but Thane is the best LI.
For once, I don't for a moment think they'll kill him and though I was previously in doubt as I thought a dramatic death could be really affecting (and to be honest, I'd love to check out Feron because he fascinates me!), I am actually pretty glad to feel that way. I think ME3 Thane could be even better than ME2 Thane. I just hope there's enough content to satisfy. That's the only thing I worry about at this point.

Yeah, same here. I guess I'm in the minority here, being excited for ME3 and having total faith in BioWare. ^^;Fiery Phoenix wrote...
I'm sorry you guys feel that way.
It's very common for at least one of my favorite characters, normally the one I like most, to die or get killed off. This happens in almost every book I've read, movie or TV show I've watched, and game I've played. I'm kind of used to it by now. It's sad, and sometimes I avoid watching that scene for a while, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying the rest of the story again, and the time that those characters were alive. It's better to have those favorite characters around, even if they end up dying, than to not have them at all. Plus, every time you watch the earlier scenes, they're alive again.
I've read the spoilers, and I have no idea if it was all the information or the most up to date information that will be used in the game come March, but Thane was perfectly in-character. For that reason and others, I can be happy about his role in ME3.

Its obvious that Thane's story should conclude in different ways depending upon choices... if that just means him dying in different circumstances with different dialogue it's going to be a total let down.
I'm quite prepared for his absence through much of the game, it being the product of him getting treatment/surgery could make it one of the most plausible absences of a ME2 character.
@MeiMei
That is a nice sentiment but I guess I'm a little bit more selfish than that. What's important to me is not having the finale of the characters and stories I've been playing for years ruined with lack of choice and forced tragedy.
If it happens I don't expect I'll wallow in it but I will feel a little let down if the other romance arcs get happy conclusions. It's not going to feel like much of a victory if Shepard's alone at the end.

I basically feel the same way. Whatever BioWare ends up doing with Thane is something I'll accept as long as it is done well but the question is will it.JECWSU wrote...
Thane dying is one thing I'm worried about. I want him alive, and I'm hoping bioware allows us to somhow save him. I'm also very worried about the kind of content he is going to recieve. Are the writers going to do him justice? Will we have a satisfactory conclution to our romance with him? I don't see how that's possible with one mission, and that's if he's even given a mission. Even if he does die is it going to be a well written story. This is what worried me the most. Plus all those leaked files has just made the excitment of it go way down for me. That doesn't mean that I won't play the game. I will still play the game, and I may still enjoy it. I just won't enjoy it as much, and I probably won't replay it as much.
People can say what they want about "knowing what we were getting into" and all that bad argument jazz, but that doesn't make it unreasonable to at least allow the choice to help Thane. Like others have said, game material has hinted at being able to do something so why not expand on it and tie up that loose end. That would make a lot more sense than to have Shepard look at Thane with a "d'oh well" face and not do anything about it.
News so far has only caused anxiety for me but I'm not going to get completely down in the dumps about it. Needless to say I'm going to be hardcore lurking on this thread when ME3 comes out.

For some reason, I don't have that feeling now. The game's released in 2 months, and I never think about it. I only do that when I read this forum which is now and then.
It's probably because of the rumour (or fact?) that Thane's just a temporary squadmember. I don't like that. Why will some always be there while others aren't? (I know it makes sense cause they don't want to make full hours stories of all characters but it doesn't mean I like it. >.< )
I like Bioware, always have and I'm currently enjoying The Old Republic too, but Mass Effect 3? I just don't feel the excitement like last time. Maybe it just hasn't struck me, dunno.
This post came out as a rant out of nowhere, and I'll still enjoy the game for what it is, and the story. At least Garrus seems to be around a lot and he's my second favorite character and LI. And someone has to stop the reapers.

ME3 is going to be great and more mates than Thane could die in this final game.
BTW- It isn't in stone that Thane dies anyway, so get happy and be ready for a great game.
