Read "For Such Loss, Abundant Recompense" and "The Violet Hour", and "The 36 Strategums of Quang Zee" or what ever that last title is. The Link is on the first page. I just finished it a week ago and it's REALLY good!:D

I
managed to do it, but it was not easy. I kept going into life support.
Then I would remember that I wasn't romancing him in that playthrough.

Haha,
I can imagine Shepard walking into life support to romance Thane,
remembering she wasn't supposed too then walking out of Life Support
with her head hanging low. Poor, poor Shepard.

I did the same thing on my first playthrough. I started romancing Garrus, and then all of a sudden I had this handsome, philosophical lizard with a great ass on my ship and I couldn't resist talking to him. Fortunately he was the last I recruited and I had rushed through the last few missions (I did his LM last, then got the IFF, then LotsB then SM) so I had no time to romance him. I did him after the SM, and immediately decided to do my next playthrough then and there. So I did. Then I started romancing Garrus again, and I felt really bad breaking it of with him when Thane came back on board.

Shepard, I mean. Shepard felt bad.

Another TOP. Eeeexcellent. *does Mr. Burns impression*

You're welcome. There are a few other good ones on the first page too.

Fanfics are good. They keep us from looking at leaks. *decisive nod*

What happened to your fanfic?

*headdesk*
I'm still waiting for Tasha to beta the revised first chapter, okay?  And the second chapter is still going through it's first edit. My level of mediocrity takes a while.

You know how in movies and in tv whenever someone says something shocking or surprising women immediately put their hands up to cover up their mouths? I actually did that when I read that.

Garrus is my Margurite's BFF too. He's just such a bro, isn't he? I love that about him!

Maybe it wasn't as blunt originally, but a lot of people were getting ninja-manced in the testing?

So, short of writing "Warning: You are innitiating a romance." or "Click here if you want Thane do desperatly fall in love
with you.", they made due with the whole "I want you" trainwreck. No way you're getting Ninja-manced with that line.

...That's my theory anyway. It's a shame that it's keeping people away.

Thank the goddess she doesn't accually say it like that, though. I like that she's really ambiguous about it.

I believe that's the reason they did it also. So many people were getting stuck in romances in ME1 so bioware wanted to make sure that didn't happen this time. Maybe they could have said something a little different though. I think most people know by now what Shepard actually says, but in the begining I think some actually thought she said that, and they saw it as tacky. I've played Mass Effect long enough to know that what the dialog wheel says and what Shepard actually says can be two different things, so I wasn't really worried about picking that line.

I see the Mass Effect cookies again! xD Thanks, myth.

I've used the Garrus/Thane squad a lot too. It's one of my favorites.

As someone who got ninjamanced in ME1, I'm really glad they fixed this problem for the sequel. It doesn't matter to me if they do it with obviously blunt lines or golden hearts next to the dialogue choices as long as my poor Shepards are not unwillingly trapped. :)

Also, @JECWSU: That comic is great. I can see Natalie as the type who would make sand angels while Thane is meditating.

It only happened to me once in ME1. After that I started being more caerful.
The wanted it to be obvious you were getting into a romance.

I really like that comic. Poor Thane.

Hanar has some great comics too. I love all of her Thane comics.

Yeah, I remember hanar's awesome work. :)

In my case, the romance trap was a glitch. Making Shepard say "I'm not interested" should not have resulted in the romance being locked-in, and with no opportunities to back out of it. It's frustrating to have to replay an otherwise perfect playthrough, so I'm just glad they're being more careful about things like that now.

That's either a bad glitch or some kind of laziness on Bioware's part. There's no way I'm not interested should lock you into a romance. Unless they just thought your Shepard was playing hard to get.

For me it was just trying to be nice and the next thing you know I'm stuck.

From what I've read on the forums, it's definitely a glitch. The "Let's just be friends" option works fine, but that kind of messes up your roleplaying if Shepard doesn't want to be friends. I like it better when the subject of romance never comes up if your Shepard and the other characters are not compatible, as it worked out for that very same MaleShep and Ashley. Even Kaidan wasn't that bad for me, going back to the friend conversations right after FemShep says she's not interested (similar to how it went for me with Zevran in DAO). But I know some people have Kaidan/Ashley romance glitches too. I just got the Liara one.

In ME2, I feel like I don't have to worry about this as much, except for FemShep around Jacob (didn't talk to him long enough to see if there was a glitch because of how the dialogue sounded). My Shepards can talk to their squad and just be friends. Garrus and Thane are great examples of this. There was never any romantic awkwardness between them and Shep on a friendship path.

At least in ME2 they give you the option to dump your LI at any time, ME1...not so much. Once the almost-kiss is
past, you're a goner.

I always archive my saves in these games, just in case something like the Liara bug happens. Loosing a 30-40 hour playthrough to a glitch would make me want to eat my computer. <_<

Hehe, if we ever needed proof that something went wrong with the Lazarus project, convos with Jacob would be
Exhibit A... My Shep would never have talked to anyone like that before ME2. ...Especially not Jacob.

"What's wrong, Jacob? Am I putting you on the spot?", is a particular favorite of mine. It never fails to make me

The Liara glitch was the one thing my many save files couldn't fix, unfortunately. I had recruited her in the second main mission, so I would already have to go back pretty far, and reloading before the first romance dialogues (where Shep has three chances to say yes, and none to get out of it) so I could avoid talking to her didn't stop the almost-kiss at lockdown either. In the end, I just decided on a second NG+ that would get this MaleShep to level 60 for his import.

I've been thinking of FemShep's auto-flirt dialogue with Jacob as a random "assuming direct control" moment. Image IPB At least there was a huge improvement made between ME1 and ME2 for this problem. In DA2, I had no problems at all. I hope ME3 will continue to follow the pattern.
