Imagining sex with Shepard potentially triggering memories of sex with Irikah really bothered me. It's like the epic version of calling out your ex's name in bed!
Okay, that would be
extremely awkward. But hilarious. A bit sad for my poor Shepard though.

I'm fine with Thane talking about Irikah, its better that he loved before than if Kolyat was the product of a one night stand or a loveless relationship. I think that 40 year old single man *should* have past loves, if they don't then one would have to wonder why?
It would be understandable if Thane, being an assassin since he was very young, didn't want to bring a serious relationship into his dangerous lifestyle. He took a huge risk with Irikah and Kolyat, and a lot of people in his position probably wouldn't have tried to have a family, but that's another one of the things I find so interesting about his character.
Also, I agree that it's better with Kolyat being born to someone he loved. It makes his history much more emotional.

About the "I will await you across the sea" bit, assuming there even is an afterlife, Shep will probably have found someone else too by the time she dies so...Gah, how depressing. But that's assuming the after-life even works the way we think it does, it probably won't, which makes it a non-issue. We'll cross that bridge when we get there, I guess. ;p
I don't believe that you stop loving someone after they die, I think Thane is still in love with Irikah, but she's dead, he knows it and he let go. His willingness to enter a relationship with Shep is a testament to that, he's not the kind of guy who'd take this cr@p lightly.
I agree with all of this. My Natalie Shepard is also the type who would eventually find someone else if Thane dies, although it would be years before she started looking. She thinks they'll all be like family when the time comes - Thane, Irikah, Kolyat, herself and whatever family she ends up with in the future, lost loves and close friends included. She's just an optimist about this sort of thing, I guess.

Does anyone think Thane would ever marry again? Would your Shepard even want to get married?
I'm sure he would be unlikely to do this if he would leave Shepard a widow after a few months, but if Thane was cured or could have his life prolonged for a good amount of years, I think it's a possibility. Natalie Shepard would definitely marry him if he asked, but it wouldn't be a deal-breaker if he didn't. She just wants to spend as much time as she can with the people she loves.

On a rather separate note, I am a bit saddened at the lack of diversity when it comes to things like pairing and marriage in the ME universe. No polyandry or societies less-centered on the traditional nuclear family unit. No societies where the males and females only come together to procreate and the men raise the children and the women wander off... there are a ridiculous number of variations in nature on Earth, but we barely see anything different in space. You mean to tell me that an Asari, who can live for hundreds of years, never found two or three people at one time interesting enough to form a group with?
That's true, most of the alien species seem to have very human-like views in regards to that sort of thing, but the salarians are quite different.
Mass Effect Wiki says...
Due to their method of reproduction, salarians have no concept of romantic love, sexual attraction, or the biological impulses and social rituals that complicate other species' lives. Male-female relationships are rare (due to the scarcity of females) and more akin to human friendship. Sexuality is strictly for the purpose of reproduction. Ancient social codes determine who gets to fertilize eggs, which produces more daughters to continue the bloodline. Fertilization generally only occurs after months of negotiation between the parents' clans, and is done for purposes of political and dynastic alliance. No salarian would imagine defying this code.
Sounds more like a business deal to me. xD

How many here will play the demo? (if it's available to everyone) I'll stay away from it personally, don't want more spoilers or more teasers. D:
I won't be playng the demo (no online connection to the Xbox), but if there are spoilers, I'll read about them here on BSN. I'm reading every spoiler I can find.

After everything is taken care of with the Reapers they would go to Shepards apartment or some other planet. Maybe they would just travel around the galaxy. My Shepard doesn't want to retire yet, but she would love to take Than on that desert vacation.
Same here, my Shep's not the type to retire, but a well-deserved vacation after the Reapers are dealt with would be nice. Of course, she'd want to be around for a while to repair their broken worlds, but as soon as things are running smoothly again, she (and Thane) could use some relaxation.

I do think Thane can/will move on. It's just, the characteristics they chose, added to how short the romance was, added to the fact that his has been done before for male romance options, but NOT EVER for a female (correct me if I'm wrong and there is a dead perfect husband and angsty teenage daughter somewhere)...
Not sure about the "daughter" part, but from what I've read about Baldur's Gate, Jaheira had a husband who died before the second game, and can start a relationship with a male PC. I've not played the game yet to know any details about her husband though.

Far more about Thane would be nice. Why doesn't he have more murder stories? He wouldn't delight in them, like Zaeed, but he should have a few anecdotes, at least. He should talk about his early-childhood training, or living on Kahje. Does he keep in contact with his parents, or is it not expected of one given up for The Compact? Does he only read poetry or does he have a weakness for historicals or plays?
I would love to find out this kind of information about Thane. The assassin lifestyle is just so interesting to me, and so is Thane's whole attitude about it, plus the cultural differences (drell/hanar in comparison to human).
