This is what I'm thinking too. It reminds me of Garrus' appearance in ME2, where everyone was totally clueless unless they read the spoilers ahead of time (like I did).Shepenwepet wrote...
My guess on why we haven't been shown anything at all, as opposed to everyone else, is that Thane's appearance itself is spoilerific.
I also play Mass Effect for the characters. And I count Shepard among them because they're all my characters.
About which DLC to buy: This advice might be strange coming from me because I don't have any of them, but I'll throw in my opinion anyway. If your friend has a FemShep who romanced Thane, the only way to get his letter is through LotSB, and it's a great letter. But if I had to choose only one DLC to be able to play, it would be Arrival, no doubt. It's so important to the plot that ME3 starts out assuming that your Shepards have done it, and I know my group of Sheps will be jealous that they didn't get to destroy a bunch of batarians themselves even though everyone else thinks they did. So, at least make sure your friend has watched it on youtube, or else the beginning of ME3 might be confusing.

@Fiery Phoenix - Thanks! I'm sure there are a lot of people who feel the same way I do, they're just being drowned out by "OMG the demo sucks, pre-order cancelled."
Let's face it, it's the characters and story that keep us coming back, not the fact that we can holster our gun. People are making big deals out of nothing, in my opinion.
And now this, because I haven't taken any more pictures lately.
There's an ME3 spoiler for you. We haven't seen Thane in any trailers because he's busy teaching baby Kermit how to play tennis.
*Dives into the sea so Thane can save her and swim her to shore*
So the demo is great! Multiplayer is fantastic, I love the levelling up system. You can only have specific genders for each species. but I have unlocked a salarian infiltrator, and can't wait to get a drell adept up! Also, the basic model for the multiplayer drell, looks exactly like Thane! No wonder there was so much confusion earlier!

So, I'm guessing no females for species besides human, quarian, and asari? Or did they actually include others?Tasha vas Nar Rayya wrote...

I have been playing the demo, which works on my laptop!
Kaidan is also looking like the ass that he is, so I'm really looking forward to Thane beating the **** out of him for hurting his Siha, even if I have to write the scene myself!

I didn't think that was possible, but he's even smexier than before, so it must be!
Carson: I know why, too! It's because we're survivors.
Garrus: *taking notes*
Thane: Where did you learn all of this?
Carson: I had to come up with some reason why the asari are all over me, and this is the first one that made sense.

Character bashing, I do not approve. Rylie's going to be pissed at Kaidan for a while, but they are biotic buddies. She's willing to forgive and forget.
If Thane breaks his own character and immaturely beats the crap out of Kaidan just because they didn't see eye to eye one time, Rylie will dump him in a heart beat.
In other words, I don't see Thane ever doing that. Both Thane and Kaidan are sweat hearts and don't go around beating the crap out of people like that.

I didn't say it would be a physical beating, did I?

Thane's long lost twin.
I was just playing the multiplayer and I got in a match with three other people and one of them was playing a drell (or, Thane's long lost twin) and I just stopped and stared. It made me miss Thane. ): I eventually snapped out of it when I started getting shot at but for most of the mission I kept following the drell. Lame, I know. xD I think my team mates thought that I was a very poor player.

Gonna be so difficult not to click somewhere else. xD
And the free starter package gave me a vanguard drell, exactly what I wanted. xD
Anyways, if someone here is playing the demo on the PC, my name's the same as here.

Well, you aren't going to like the next chapter, which hopefully should be up mid-week. I'm sending it to my beta tomorrow night. There were times when I almost teared up a little, so... Critical Mission Success, I guess.
You won't like the chapter after that, either. Or the chapter after that, or most of the chapter after that. But the rest you will.
I'll give you a little hint about the next one though. He's tall, scaly, and turquoise.
Oh, and I was thinking fanfic, but now maybe not. LT made me see that it really only makes sense in my own barbarian brain. But I want to see Thane loose his precious control, just to get that extra bit of depth in his character.
Also, I know we all love Thane's calm, polite deportment. Do you think that's just naturally who he is?
I think that his demeanor comes from his species relationship with the hanar. Since they are excessively polite as a species, it makes sense that they would impart it onto the drell as a whole. I've come to think that the whole bowing thing developed from the drell adopting a measure of the hanar politeness, to make it easier to communicate with their rescuers without accidentally offending them, and aid in adapting to their new situation.
I'm sure that when the Hanar and Drell first made contact, the Drell inadvertantly insulted a LOT of hanar!
Also, I think i have come up with a reason for why the hanar rescued the drell in the first place, in regards to that conversation we had a few months ago and all our doubts about the seeming benevolence of the act. And I think it makes sense, in an renegade, ends-justify-the-means sort of way.

Thane has lost his precious control before. We know of two times. The end of ME2, when he is romanced he comes up to Shepard's room and pours his heart out to her. Then he does talk about guilt for how he killed those batarians. He made them suffer and hates the fact that he did that.
I think it's an all too common idea to have Thane lose control in fics. It's not a bad idea though, he's a calm, controlled guy and we like to see people like that break that mold and show emotion. It's just people keep going for the beating up hated old LI or freaking out over Shepard and massacring a bunch of people or something just violent and angry. Something is attractive about men being violent and angry, and I personal don't like it.
You know what I haven't seen in fics: Thane with uncontrollable laughter. You know what, you can't have that one because I might write it. XD

I see what you mean mythlover20. I think part of it is because he is naturally a nice guy and part of it is training/influence from hanar. However, I don't put it beyond the drell having it naturally in them, considering the fact they are so willing to service themselves to the hanar for saving their species. You'd think after some generations, someone in the drell species would say, hey let's go get our own planet and stop dying from Kepral's for the hanar.

Hey LT! Love the new avatar!
Ooh, that idea is SO much better. Can I read it when you're done? Pretty please?
And I agree. Drell in general are probably going to think that eventually, but Thane specifically, I think his demeanor is mainly hanar influence. I mean, we know he'd been training from the age of six, so he wouldn't have spent many of his (rememberable) formative years with his parents; most of them would have been with the excessively polite hanar, and any drell teachers there would have been would have most likely gone through the same thing themselves when they were children.
At least that's what I think. It makes sense in my little mind, but smarter people than myself might see a flaw in my thinking.

But I totally agree with everyone in saying that he learned his politeness and inner calm from the hanar. And I also want to add that his line of... Profession requires a lot of that control. To be able to lay for hours looking through a scope watching a target requires a lot of that control. Also being able to do half the hand to hand that he does requires an inner peace (much like martial arts today).
I also think that he wouldn't lose control over something as simple as Shep's old lover being rude to her or if she was in danger. He knows that his Siha lives a life a lot like his and he accepts that she will always live like that, but he will try to protect her best he can and be for her when she needs him.
But that's just my opinion.

Also this is your story. You can write it the way you want to write it. I agee Thane wouldn't react that way. Kaidan wouldn't either, but I also never thought Liara would make that nasty remark she made about Thane in LotSB. I don't think Kaidan would fight or anything, but it's been two years. I don't really know what he's like now. I would hope he wouldn't say such a hateful thing as Liara.
I think it's mostly just Thane who acts so calm. Kolyat didn't come across as very calm and Feron didn't strike me as that calm either. I think it was Thanes training and all those years spent with the hanar. Although we haven't really seen many Drell so there could be others like that too, but I think it would be mostly somehting unique to Thane.
The only time Thane lost control was with the batarians that killed his wife. I think if someone tried to hurt Shepard or his son to get to him you might see that same side come out agan.
