I tweeted Casey and Silverman, got nothing. Sorry. :(

Why Bioware? Why do you do this! WHY! :crying: Even Thane's sad.

I can understand why Casey and Silverman have nothing to say about Thane. His fate is one of the more interesting story lines and to reveal too much could have more spoiler potential than for other characters.

That said they're being pretty coy about all the ME2 only characters so maybe we'll hear more about them all at the same time.

I guess they haven't given out many spoilers concerning characters. It has mostly been about gameplay, storyline and the various races you help. Just (some) squaddies have been confirmed.

I guess we won't hear much on the 'less popular LI's' like Thane, Jack and Samara until later.

I would trade every other spoiler (gameplay, customization, you name it) for some information on all of our squadmates. Specifically, the ME2 ones. I understand that it's too early to give out that much information, and they don't want to spoil anything, but I wouldn't mind a little marketing speak on Thane's status. Something we can fuss about and discuss and blow way out of proportion to make the time go faster.

That being said, I would laugh so hard if the only information they gave us about Thane was 'He dies'. Of his illness? In battle? Between games? During the game? If he's not loyal? If you didn't romance him? If you did romance him? If you get a game over? If you choose to sacrifice him? If he pulls an Alistair? In bed? In bed with Shepard? Is this innuendo?

Now that's a discussion I could get behind :D

They haven't said much about any of the squadmates, but especially the ones from ME2. I am not going to be a happy person if the squadmates that they have revealed are the only ones. I will probably still buy the game, but I won't enjoy it as much, and probably won't replay it that much.

I could do with maybe a new screenshot of Thane looking badass or something, and that's it. I really don't want to know anything else about his situation (or anyone else for that matter) until I play through the game myself.

As it is now I feel like I've spoiled myself too much on certain things already. I may need to go into media blackout sooner than I thought... :?

a screenshot would be very nice : D indeed

I'll be very surprised if Thane (or any LI) gets sidelined in ME3 so I guess I'm fine with no info, what I'm worried about is that I don't like what they do with Thane... please don't make his death canon BW!

Tell you what, we could always pretend that the old ME2 screenies are actually ME3 teasers? Like Thane looking really badass here...

I guess I'm the odd one in that I don't mind waiting for the game to come out before knowing more about Thane XD
But I like to keep up to date, so if they ever do release some information, I don't want to be in the dark about it. I don't want to miss out on the resulting discussions!

I think because he doesn't have a role in the SM people assume he's not a useful squaddie. Actually, he does have a role. Fighting next to you. He's an absolute beast against Collectors, and I think he's incredibly useful on insanity.

In fact, I'm so enthusiastic about what a good squaddie he is against Collectors that I'm using my brother's lingo. 'What a beast' indeed :P

Yes, thats EXACTLY where I found he really shone....makes mince meat of the Collectors...I was VERY impressed....I don't usually play Insanity and though I use Thane a lot...Team Sniper rocks!...:wizard:....Thanes special gifts hadn't been that noticeable (warp) until Insanity...Love that Warp!...:o....I third your bro's lingo....Thane is a beast...:D

I have found a new respect for Thane after that run...Don't get me wrong, I have never disliked him and he is always on my 'Who I want back in ME3' list...I have even based my pen and paper RPG character on him, I find his views quite fascinating and though I don't necessarily agree with him, his philosophical perception is sound and I would trust him at my back.....I know why Thane didn't make it into my top fav's, it's purely how BW chose to potray him image wise during his flash backs...the flashing images really mess with my eyes, plus I think he has too many flash backs.....I love the philosophical chats with him though.

Oh I agree with you fully. I liked him on my first run, but never really used him since I had Garrus as my sniper. Then I let Garrus run the fireteams, took Thane with me, and did a double-take. I probably should have known, since he's got powers specifically against organics and barriers, but still!

And yeah, those flashbacks were a bit painful. The basic idea is pretty cool, but all the flashing made my eyes hurt. Hopefully they'll be a bit toned down in the third game. More philosophical talk is always appreciated though! Part of the reason I like Thane so much is that he's actually comes across as alien in his thinking and ideals. Sometimes the aliens seem like humans with a skin condition--moments like discussing philosophy with Thane remind me otherwise.

Thats also exactly how I intially discovered Thane...Garrus leading Fire Team, Legion in the vents (Legions Widow with my Infiltrators Widow B))....Thane had been over looked....same here...double take....and Wow!

Yep, I agree, I like the concept of the flash back memory...but it was over done. Between Thane and Legion, I loved the philosophy banter and hope for more of it in ME3. Yes, BW did well with Thanes (and Legions) philosophy debates, an alieness, but with sound reasoning that we can understand.

Why do you think Thane doesn't seem that popular? Is it the direct challenge of his perceptions do you think?

Thane's middle-of-the-road popularity can probably be attributed to a few things:

-You recruit him late in the game. By the time you actually acquire him, you probably have a squad all ready to go. Why use another sniper when you have your bro Garrus?

-He's quite the cliche. I don't mind and think his writing more than makes up for it, but I can see why others may not.

-His illness. Well, not his illness per say, but the possible handling of it. He's got a short lifespan, and there are plenty of debates on what should happen in the third game. There are those who think he should die no matter what, and those who think he should be treated or cured. Since it's such a large variable, it's easy to judge the character based solely on that. I personally know people who skip his recruitment since 'he'll die anyway'.

-BSN represents a very small percentage of gamers. Tali seems like the most popular LI here, but look elsewhere and you learn about Miranda's popularity. Among my gamer friends, Mordin, Thane and Grunt are considered the best characters, when it may not look that way here. Everyone has different opinions, and BSN is not the best representation.

That's the way I see it, at least. There's probably other answers, like his emotional romance scene and his challenge of our views, but you'll get that with every character to some degree. Anyone else want to weigh in?

And as a sidenote, I love your Lorik banner

I'm just going over the late recruitments in my head now....I hadn't thought about that, but now I am thinking about it, thats a good point...mores the pity and the loss to us gamers....I'm figuring Legion gets a free ride because it's a Geth....And Samara's popularity seems pretty equal to Thanes....I had just always automatically assumed their lack of popularity was due to their confronting philosophies.

So true, he is a cliche', apparently the BW team held some kind of survey in his creation, going around asking women what they would find sexy, then meshed the results together to make Thane....over doing it in the process.....Though fortunately I am an old enough and over it enough woman to not really let that bug me...^_^...his deeper out look is his saving grace and a fascination.

His illness....personally I vote for a cure...^_^....I don't think it would seem out of place, why would it? And I think it would be a damned shame and a big let down for BW to intentionally kill off a squaddie...imagine the outrage if it was Garrus or Tali....so why Thane?.....I can't see them doing that anyway. I am very surprised to hear people skip his recruitment because of his illness.

Unfortunatley this Forum is all I have to go by....but just figure it propable gives a decent cross section on views.

Yep, I was pretty chuffed when I stumbled across the Lorik banner......his very cool....

I always brought Thane with me on the Collector missions. It blew my mind how he just tore those guys to pieces. Hopefully his abilities will continue to be useful if he's combat ready for ME3
This piece is pretty simple and not as pretty as the rest of the Thane art, but for some reason I love the simplicity of it. :P

My insanity teams always have Thane.  People can say what they want about him storywise, but gameplaywise he's incredibly useful.  And the SM?  Fugettabout it.  Take him with you, that's his role.  He's literally a one man killing machine when it comes to Collectors and can survive darn near everything.  On insanity I've run with Thane / Grunt / Engineer (my favorite OP combo, Team Husk Rush), Thane / Miranda / Adept, Thane / Jacob / Vanguard, Thane / Garrus / Infiltrator and Thane / Jack / Sentinel (working slowly on taking my soldier through ME1 before hitting ME2 again).

I'd like to see him get a different loyalty power, though.  I'd love if he got a melee attack / neck snap / eye gouge / kick-in-the-quads type move.

Also, Thane!

It would be kind of swell if there were two possible endings for Thane: he's cured or he's not cured and dies from his illness. Which ending you get could be determined by some of the decisions you've made in sidequests and stuff, even seemingly unrelated things that somehow end up mattering. That'd be pretty cool imo :)
