Ummm, I don't know. I don't think anyone here has done that. Well, maybe Saren. SAREN!!! Have you done this?

Ooh. TOP. Well, there has been a dispicable lack of Thane on this thread lately, so....

Currently going through ME2 again with my main Shep, who'll naturally be going after Thane. My problem is that she's not really the type to go "Just friends huh? It's a start. *wink wink nudge nudge*", and having her actually say that feels kind of awkward.

I noticed with my Garrus-romancing Shepard that she still had the 'I'm here for you'-option in the follow-up conversation after his loyalty mission, which I assume would still activate the Thane romance.

My question is, if I have my Shepard skip the 'Just friends'-option and have her pick the 'I'm here for you'-line instead, will she have missed anything regarding romance scenes? Or will she still be safe?

I usually always pick the flirt option because I can't resist Thane's "That's intriguing" response. The way he says it is just....

I think you can still pursue the romance if you skip the flirt though. The "I'm here for you" line paraphrased as "I want you Thane" is the one that really triggers the romance, I think. Thane confesses he's come to care for Shepard and she can say she feels the same or reject him.

It is fine to skip the 'just friends' line I've done it and all you lose is his response. Although I love the 'that's intriguing' line I kind of prefer triggering the romance with the 'I want you Thane' choice which is more subtle (but very badly labelled).

It is awkwardly labelled but I think that's to make it obvious what the romance line/ trigger is.

Lots of people complained about ninjamancing in ME1 so I think that could be why BioWare made the romance triggers blunter in ME2.

Raise your hand if in ME1 Liara, Ash or Kaidan got the wrong idea just because Shepard was being nice to them? *hand raise* Liara, was by far, the worst offender! I had to stop talking to her just to avoid it.

I was never able to be nice to Kaidan or Liara in ME1 without apparantly flirting with them. Either I always took the wrong responses or... dunno. xD

I was totally ninjamanced by Liara! But I "cheated" on her with Thane! She deserves it!

Kind of ninjamanced by Kaidan because it was the first bioware game i'd played and I didn't know anything about the romances. I'm glad I never had a liara ninjamance, I'm not a fan of her... I'd have considered ditching that save.

I did another playthrough on ME2 where I stayed faithful to Kaidan...it was so damn hard not to get involved with Thane and give him the 'concentrate on your son' line, I felt so mean! WE LOVE EACH OTHER!

After several years, I figured out how to not get ninjamanced with Kaidan. At the part where he asks you about sparks, pick the bottom right option that says this is just for battlefield reasons. Shepard does not sound like a total **** to him and you can continue to be nice to him without getting ninjamanced.

I got to romance Thane guilt free and get my friendzoned Kaidan.

Do you guys consider it cheating? I've always thought of it as moving on, to be honest.

I have two different Shepards who romanced Kaidan in the first game but they both moved on with Thane in ME2 and will be staying with Thane in ME3. I also have a Shepard who romanced no one in the first game and Thane in the second, just in case having a ME1 LI causes unforeseen problems with the ME2 LI.

In short, Thane's power of mass seduction is too much for me to resist.

I suspect even my Ashmancing ManShep would have fallen sway to Thane if it had been possible. He and Thane ended up in a bromance instead. :D

definitely not cheating imo, the most we get from Kaidan is a maybe which is not good enough.

If I was shepard and I got that email it would not be enough for me to consider the relationship was ongoing. I would be thinking that I could wait for him and he could decide that it was over after all. He doesn't have a leg to stand on arguing that she's cheated on him (I doubt he'll consider it cheating though) he could have joined the Normandy at horizon, he could have been more understanding over what shepard may have been through in the email but he wasn't. He made his bed...

I do have one shepard (my first one) who is hanging on for Kaidan but she doesn't consider that they're in a relationship anymore, she just wants to try and get back with him.

I didn't have much of a problem with Shepards reaction. My reaction was blank. Virmire made me feel absolutely nothing. I've cried more over someone dying in a soap opera. I've also seen that kind of scene play out in movies and t.v. before. It really wasn't anything new.

Okay, I understand now. :) I've seen a lot of varied opinions about whether or not people find the Virmire choice emotional. Of course, most people who liked both Kaidan and Ashley did think of it that way. I was sort of neutral towards Kaidan, and I never liked Ashley, so I didn't get emotional over it. (The Saren confrontation, Sovereign's speech, and persuading Wrex - those were the emotional high points for me.) I might find it more emotional later on when playing Shepards who care deeply for both of those characters. I love all my Shepards, so it's easier to feel bad for them. xD

I don't really care for Ashley so I didn't get emotional either. I do like Kaidan, and I still didn't get emotional. I only got a little emotional at the end of Overlord. I was also a little sad to see Liara go at the end of LotSB, and she's not even my favorite character. I also got a little emotional when Wrex called Shepard my friend so I guess it depends on the character and the situation. Some of my Shepards are a little bit more emotional than others.

I do not consider it cheating. Shepard and Kaidan weren't  married. They hadn't even been in a relationship that long. Maybe one or two months at the most, and then Shepard died. That pretty much ended the relationship in my opinion. Kaidan also went out with some doctor so he's trying to get on with his life. I have on Shepard that left Kaidan for Thane, and she considers it moving on as well. She's staying with Thane.

They keep saying there will be consequences. I don't think they will be that great though. Liara got over it pretty quickly.

The first picture on this page is amazing. Really talented artist. That might just be my favorite Thane fanart.

I don't consider it as cheating if Shepard moves on with someone else after the way Ashley/Kaidan acts on Horizon. They practically ended the relationship right there, and a letter isn't always good enough to fix that. Too little, too late. It's more of a tricky situation with Liara. Shepard doesn't have an opportunity to end the relationship until LotSB. Now I have a question for those of you who have DLC. If you play LotSB early, before you start a romance with someone else, can you still break up with Liara, or does the subject not come up at all, basically forcing you to "cheat"?

As for romance traps, everyone's game seems to be different. I got the Liara trap. I managed to avoid the dialogue that others say leads to the Ashley trap just because of accurate romeplaying (the same thing that got me into the Liara trap, ironically). I didn't get the Kaidan trap, and I've played FemSheps who were friends with him and turned him down after the "Are you sending me signals?" dialogue. I thought that in addition to recruiting her last, the Liara trap could also be avoided by choosing the "Let's be friends" line (as opposed to the bugged "I'm not interested" line), but I recently discovered someone who's game has that line bugged too. So I think the lesson here is: tread carefully or just avoid anyone who likes your gender.

mythlover20 wrote...

Pfft. Oh that would be hilarious. I'd definitely go along with Mordin with that just to see Carson's reaction.

That dialogue really cheered me up. I've just been trying to recreate my MainShep Margurite so I can get her facecode and put it into the PC. That took over an hour and a half to do, and it is most definitely not right, but it's as close as I'm going to get her. (Why, oh why doesn't the facecode show when you import a ME2 save?!). Please remind me never to loose track of my facecodes again. That was truly an exercise in frustration. :pinched:

You can still join him! Posted Image I'm sure Carson will run through red sand again soon enough. Glad the dialogue cheered you up.

Ummm, I don't know. I don't think anyone here has done that. Well, maybe Saren. SAREN!!! Have you done this?

For the record, this is the first thing I saw when I entered the thread. xD It amused me.

To answer the question - yes, I think the official romance starter with Thane is the "I'm here for you" line (labelled as "I want you" for the purpose of being obvious, as the actual dialogue is not). The "friends" line, although it does sound flirty, probably isn't a romance starter - but it definitely works to play it like one for some Shepards.

The reason I like Thane is that he's designed as woman candy, pretty much straight up. I don't see enough of that in games.

Also, he's woman candy.

I keep thinking I need to put up some dialogues or fics for my Shep, but I'm pretty new to the whole Bioware community and have noooooo idea where to go here.

They better not do that. A lot of us won't be happy if they do.
This month is almost over. I'm a little nervous about the game. I will be coming here to see what everyone says.

I'll be checking the strategy guide on March 6th. If there's a way to keep Thane alive, I'll find it. >:D

Anyone want me to post it here if I find out, under a big bold spoiler warning but with as few spoilers in the description as possible? That's what I'll be doing for the Garrus thread.

I feel ya. I haven't been here in a while, cause I don't want to focus to much attention on something that I may ultimatley dislike. There goes 80 bucks down the drain.....

If there's a way to save Thane I don't think most here will view that as spoiler. Sounds good to me.

Okay then. :) I figured everyone wants to know how to keep their favorite character alive (unless they're really trying to do a blind run-through and live with the consequences), but scenes that involve character deaths often contain a lot of spoilers. I'll try to keep it to the basics of "choose this option here".

I'm liking all of the Thane fanart being posted in this thread :)
Looking forward to Mass Effect 3, and being able to see Thane's story play out.
