I think that a choice between curing or not curing Thane through a moral dilemna will appeal to the most amount of players. Some think that it his fate, and others (like us) believe that he still has a chance.

Edit top: I stole this from the hipster thread when that was up and running (I highly recommend looking at it, it was so funny!)

Fairly new to the forums since I just made this account a few days ago, but Thane was my favorite squadmate in Mass Effect, and I hope to see him in Mass Effect 3 and in a big role. I just wanted to stop in and voice my support of Thane returning.

Welcome Grishnog! :wizard: We're all rather friendly around here, so settle in and post away!

I've thought of yet another reason I want Thane to live through ME3--to avoid the angsty fanfiction. Every time I read about how Shepard wants to die after Thane does, I backspace. Everyone's Shepard is different and I respect that, but hardcore suicidal angst is not what I want to read about after ME3 comes out. There's going to be enough depressing, awful moments in the game; can't we have some happy ones too?

It would be kind of swell if there were two possible endings for Thane: he's cured or he's not cured and dies from his illness. Which ending you get could be determined by some of the decisions you've made in sidequests and stuff, even seemingly unrelated things that somehow end up mattering. That'd be pretty cool imo :)

Agreed! I'm just as against Thane being cured as canon as I am him dying, both should be possible.

@Tasha, I do hope that if there's a moral dilema that it's not weighed so that saving him is seen as the wrong choice morally such as sacrificing an entire population or something  ...that would be mean.

Yeah, probably not as straight forward as that.

I was thinking more along the lines of making shady alliances or doing something ethically murkyto cure Thane, such as using collector/reaper technology to prolong his life/

And Shepard would never go suicidal. People can roleplay, but what you see in game doesn't make me think Shepard will kill herself if she lost Thane. I tend to go for the romance category on ffnet anyway ;)

Hello. :)

Just made this account a few days ago, but I've been lurking a lot and wanted to voice my support of thane. For me, I think that his "cure" can be written very easily into the storyline without it being magic / blatant fanservice / lame.

For the transplant: What if Sheppard has the opportunity to get him a transplant but he refuses to add himself to the list, no matter if he romanced Sheppard or not, because he feels the need to atone? Or if he did get added to the list but the only -perfect- match needed you to kill someone. He/She could be a total jerk abusive and all bad news or a really good person whom you have to decide dies because saving thane is more important. Of course thane will have nothing to do with that and will dump sheppard if he find out. Morality blurs, priorities shift, Story maintained.

Blackmail: I don't think the illusive man was unaware of shepard personal relationships on board the Normandy, What if he tried to trick / bargain shepard into thane cure? Just think about it, it's ME3, you hijack a secure commlink to the illusive man and he claims to hold your LI cure in his hands. He could be lying, or he could save his life. A gamble.

Oh noes, Thane gets WORSE: shepard is forced to do something drastic to save his life, now. Cue options above.

just my two cents. Nevermind me

@Tasha, I don't see shepard ever being suicidal, especially since she's been dead once already - a fact that would surely mess with her head. She might be a bit more reckless and more likely to die to save others though.

doing something shady to save Thane's not going to bother Shepard and @Plakto
I do wonder if cerberus could be involved in this... We don't know at what point cerberus reverts to being hostile toward shepard. It could be cool If Thane's in a cerberus facility, not one where they're indoctrinated, maybe Miranda or Jacob could be involved in his escape... this scenario could be dependent upon whether the collector base was saved/destroyed!!

I wouldn't be keen on the idea of Shep having to kill someone to get Thane new lungs, that would be a step too far IMO.

Killing someone to save Thane isn't the kind of option I would want, and Thane would hate it anyway. I really hope that isn't what they have in mind. If they decided to give us the option then it might be at some kind of cost, but I hope that's not it.

Nice screenie Aislinn! Is that a shot from Thane replacing Shepard's model? Love the red lighting!

And it would be like TIM to use Shepard's LI like that. Hostage or something maybe? Very good thought there Plakto, it would deepen the relationship between Shepard and Thane and ties in with the storyline Bioware have given us so far for ME3...

Wow, I didn't know you guys were reading it. >.> I'm working on part 4, but I'm also working on a demo reel to submit to Bioware (Silverman invited me to do so).

I actually got that screenshot on the mission where you help Patriarch. I picked the option to stop the assassins. While Holly was kicking the Krogan, Garrus and Thane were aiming their guns. I used flycam to get this shot of Thane.

I'm always looking for good Thane fanfic, and I came across yours. I'm really enjoying it.

Congratulations on being invited to do a demo reel. Posted Image

It's been awhile since I visited these boards but it's so nice to see a new Thane topic in the ME3 section of the forums. I'm hoping beyond hope that Thane will return as a full-time squadmember/love interest and not just cameo.

I love the quote you guys used for this thread. It fits with how I see Thane as a character. It's going to be hard but he is worth keeping and my Shep will do everything in her power to help and be there for him. Thane's medical report gives me hope because he's a candidate for a transplant, which means he still has options.

But...I like Feron! Well...

You can have Comic Book Feron. All he does is sneer at me. But let me keep LOTSB Feron. He's cute and damaged and snarks at the info drone.

I couldn't hurt Feron either. The poor guy has been through enough. I'm sure there are others you could get the parts from. The only problem is Thane wouldn't like it.

If Thane said not to hurt anyone then I probably wouldn't.

LotSB Feron seems so young, but cute. :) And he's been through hell. Crap.

Comic book Feron is a snarky, bad ass. I liked him.

Feron as a whole is my favorite minor character. Comic book Feron is always sneering and backstabbing, but he isn't all that smooth, which I like. LOTSB Feron seems like a different person, but after two years of isolation and torture, what do you expect? I wish there were more dialog options, since the guy looks like he needs a friend, but Liara will be there for him.

...Unless she leaves him to run the Broker network in ME3 and skips onto the Normandy with Shepard. Nope. I'll take Feron onto the Normandy too and let him hang around with Thane. We need more drell around.

Speaking of, do you think we'll visit Kahje with Thane and see more drell? And will they all be wearing the same outfit?

I would really like it if Feron's character was developed more. From what we can gather so far, he is a complex guy with divided loyalties: a confused individual who still doesn't know his place in the world.

And then because of this mindset he has, he was tortured by the shadow broker for two years. Waiting for someone to save him, but his allies were just as loyal to him as he was to them (that is to say, not loyal at all.)

He is a fascinating character, and I will look forward to seeing more of Feron in ME3 (so glad he looks lots better than his comic book counterpart though!)
