If they'd done what they'd purported to do, made the romance and death scene bittersweet and leave us sad but satisfied, well... they completely screwed it up. I thought we were promised a satisfying conclusion to all the romances, what happened here is anything but.

I mean, entitlement aside, splicing in a few lines of dialogue that buff up the romance and making more people remember Thane doesn't seem like it'll make the bad memories go away, especially considering the fact that the idea that he HAS TO die is ludicrous, given the save or damn options with nearly everyone else.

That they have to save him? No. I wouldn't wish the option of pre-set death be taken away from those who wish it so. I wouldn't wish to be as ignorant as some of those who demaned his death be the only outcome for Thane.

But I feel that we should be given an additional option that we were quite often hinted at. Simply cartering to alleged Thane "fans" , who see his illness as the essence of his personality and consequently feel the need to force his death upon all his fans,  is wrong on so many levels that I can't even begin to count ...

If they already wanted to force his non-escaping death on all of us they should have made his romance in me3 more fullfiling. And trying not to reverse his whole romance apex from me2 into something that can only apply to non romanced Thane.

'Course not. Just make it an option, I meant. Like everyone else got the option to save Miranda, Jack, Tali, etc...

Agreed. But between his pre-set death and having an option like others do stands a platoon of people who think his pre-set death was expected and only reasonable outcome. While in the cases of their LI's  both outcomes are feasible. Actually just one (saving) since I really doubt anyone doomed their LI . Or they doomed it but then load the game to rectify their mistake.

Wish we had a "rectify" button too. We are not forced to chose the same ending for their LI characters that equal theirs but we most surely are forced to get/recieve an ending for Thane that most wanted (at least on this forums but other threads way back).

WHAT?  Damn it!  I was so excited to see him that I never let him finish!  Ugh!  And I think my closest save is three hours out!

I did it too soon too, at first, so I reloaded and let him go until he was saying the word last, then hit it. My Shep is greedy, she had to have both.

i mean i'll have her defeat the reapers (what thane would want) and die doing it. hero's death option, just like thane, if you opt for him to have that. why is that messed up? its an rpg. you guys keep talking about options and how unfair thane's default death is and how thanemancers(?) should've been given the choice to save him and how that is not unreasonable. my shepards, my choice. i thought this is what this is all about.

Also I like to bring up how I keep reading post after post how some choose to die in the end of the game. I couldn't finish it, but I think something is wrong when femshep turns suicidal. When it becomes about not dying like a hero but dying to reunited with the man you love. That's messed up.

I actually agree with this, but @Freak I do agree it should still be your choice.  Squee is not negating your choice, at least that's what I read into it.  Sorry if I am making assumptions on either of you.

I'm sure that has happened before in war.
You can still die a hero, and also not be sad that you're dying because you get to see, and be with the person or people you love.

I was at a midnight release also AND bought the CE!  
I didn't get the death scene for 14 hours, but it still was brutal.

Yes they did.
That was one of my suggestions to you on the protest thread. That and the lack of paramour achievement.
Maybe if you can find the Jacob group on DA you can find some Jacob art.

I was at the midnight release too, 2 things came out of that, I met some good people and I won a drawing for that ME3 standee thing they always had on display at GameStop with male shep on it, big as heck and sitting in my living room. Too bad sometimes when I walk by it I'm reminded on how bad they f'd up some parts of this game. But sometimes I smile and remember how fun it was to be surrounded by others who braved the cold to just be there.

Maybe you can try looking for the Jacob group on DA. I'm sure he has one that has all of his art in it.

You know and I thought Thane's romance in ME 2 was one of the best. We had a lot more interesting dialogue with him, his final scene was really emotional, his voice just melted... I mean, for a straight FemShep, I think Thane's romance arc had the most talking of any of them. Including Garrus, who if you romanced him had like two extra lines of dialogue.

Then again, all ME 2 romances didn't get the good end of the stick, really, in any way. And then, at the horrific end, to see Liara's face(and I'm not a Liara hater or anything). Just ouch. I can't really figure out why in heaven's name they expanded the romanceable characters so large if they didn't intend to follow through, but maybe that's the writer in me imagining all the awesome possibilities that are lost.

I feel really bad for Jacob and Tali-mancers, though. Tali because the player can't even see her face ingame unless she biffs it off a cliff on Rannoch! I mean, wth? And Jacob's, well, that's self explanatory.
