I'm just happy to see the return of Thane in ME3.

And Thane is not his disease for the trazilioned time. He is not atoning because he is dying. He is atoning because he went torturing those batarians after they killed his wife. He is just atoning BEFORE he dies. And he doesn’t want to die anymore. And that should be reason enough.
I actually wouldn’t like his character if he were atoning because he is dying. It’s almost like people who are being good citizens just because they don’t want to go to hell. That’s not very noble now is it.

I'm sure that most who want this scene also want to see their shep happily shacked up with whichever LI they have chosen and I certainly would never campaign to have that denied them.
I do think that, more than in previous games, BW will be wanting to give all the players the opportunity for their happy ending. We've all invested a lot of time and effort creating our own Shepards and I think we do deserve to be rewarded.

If a person doesn't want to cure Thane, don't bring him in your squad. If you accidentally kill him, you can go to a previous save and, well, save him! There should be some way to satisfy the people who want 'realistic' science fiction games, and the people who would rather have a slightly sugarcoated one. (Personally, I'd like the sugarcoated one. I have a sweet tooth in fiction.)

I hope Bioware doesn't listen to the ones who don't like him. They only want him dead because they think it will make more room for the character they do like. Most of them don't even care about him so why it shouldn't matter to them if he lives or dies. If they really want him gone so bad then just get him killed on the suicide mission.
I agree with you J. But I still think that Bioware would get the least complaints if they didn't have a compulsory dead Thane in ME3. But if had it in the game as a choice. A bit like how squaddies in ME2 could die in the SM. But play it right and everyone can survive
As for Thane's usefulness in gameplay? Warp is invaluble. And his weapon versatility is brilliant too. If I am doing an insanity playthrough, then I bring Thane everywhere, especially with squad warp ammo. Completely owns Collectors.

Truth is don´t think Thane will be a perma squad , I really hope he will be slotted in , I want all of them in , I like the religious assassin with cold logic . and his lines are fabulous ..
But gameplay wise , he was too weakthat is one of the reasons most didn´t use him .
Thane was weak? Obviously we were playing different games. Him and Garrus, give them sniper rifles and stand back! There were truely amazing moments having those two as my squad members. Thane was anything but weak. Actually him and Garrus, were the two I took with me on every mission.

Preposterous. Thane is indispensable against collectors, especially on higher difficulty settings. I'd slot him in the tier right below Miranda in terms of applicability and effectiveness.

No character is 'weak', but all must be utilised properly. It doesn't help that the AI in the game is borderline Forrest Gump, but give him the Incisor or the Viper and make sure he takes cover, and he'll take people down quickly. I drag him everywhere with my adept simply because singularity + warp = disintergration fun.

Quiet, mysterious, and lethal, this Drell assassin is one of the most intriguing crewmates aboard the Normandy SR-2. Thane is one of the new alien species introduced in Mass Effect 2, and his incredible skills were learned from the Hanar (Seriously, those jellyfish know how to fight?). With a stone-cold approach on the battlefield, Thane is ruthless but always expresses remorse for his duties. A romance option for female Shepard players, Thane is a soft-hearted soul complete with paternal instincts. Romancing him revealed an unexpected layer of complexity. He is easily the most fully realized character in the supporting cast.”
I know this is old news but this is why IGN thinks Thane is best character of the year. There's no mention of his illness. He is a complex character without it.
Here is the link: http://bestof.ign.co...-character.html
I think Me3 is not getting a 95+ from IGN without Thane being on the Normandy.

Thane's pistol? who was speaking? sniper rifle would seem more apt but it's maybe a scoped sniper pistol that can be concealed unlike a bulky rifle... or maybe a silenced pistol??? If it's true it surely bodes well for a squad member role in ME3??

But yeah, definately mentioned Thane. Really good find there 5iha. And they also mentioned it was based off weapons that will be available in ME3.
And I always love reading that IGN article
