I came up with this fun squad banter while I was at work, thought I'd share:

Shepard: *sounds a bit out of breath* Hey, Thane, wait up!
Thane: My apologies, Siha.
Shepard: *surprised* You really are feeling better, aren't you?
Thane: *slight chuckle* I suppose I am.
Shepard: *seductive tone* You know, I'm not 100% convinced. When we get back to the Normandy, you should give me a full demonstration.
Thane: *amused* It would be my pleasure, Siha.
James: Man, you sure don't waste time... do you, Cobra?
Thane: *confused* ... Cobra?
Shepard: *exasperated* He's got this thing for nicknames, just roll with it.
Thane: I see.
James: What? You're not the only one who can come up with nicknames. What the hell does 'See-ha' mean, anyways?
Thane: *irritated* Siha is one of the warrior-angels of Arashu, goddess of motherhood and protection. It is a term of endearment and respect.
James: Pretty it up all you want, Cobra, but it's still a nickname.
Thane: Hmmph.

Nickname for Thane inspired by Aimo of course.  =]

THIS IS AWESOME!  And much, much prettier to look at then my dialogues.Image IPB

*EDIT*  Bah! TOP.  I gots no new Thane love to give.  Anyone got a good pic you could post for a lady??

So. I posted this on the Thane protest thread, but I thought I'd put it here. Nothing I hadn't said before, just with some quotes from someone I spoke to who had no reason to lie.

I can't reveal my source. They really, really didn't want talk to me, or anyone for that matter but they finally said this:

Regarding the state of the ME2 LI's:

"... we were told that of the old love interests, only Tali and Garrus would really carry forward, we all tried to deal with it as best we could... It was a bitter pill, and some of us did better than others."

Regarding the entire Thane, nobody/remembered him after he died bit, "Nobody took the realization casually. We collectively beat ourselves up about it when we realized what had happened..." Apparently there were issues regarding the Cerberus Coup, and fixing them took more time than they realized. "I'd like to think that if it had been in good shape earlier, we would have noticed."

About Thane's death:

"The plan was always to have him die, and I'm sorry anything felt like foreshadowing otherwise. I had hoped to make it possible to have him survive and go off to be a war asset like Grunt, but it didn't come through, mainly because everyone said that the emotional payoff from his death would be undercut by doing that, and that was going to be so powerful and wonderful... until they pulled resources from it."

I think this is pretty telling of the entirety of ME3.

I don't know that I've lost hope, per say, but really, I just have no desire to convince Bioware that they should have given us what they promised.  The times I played through ME2 are well in the double digits, but right now, I'm struggling through my second playthrough of ME3.

I need to draw Robin after stealing Thane's jacket... It's one of those things I'm sure my little sentinel always wanted to do.

Some Javik and Thane banter I came up with:

Javik:  Your species has evolved into a capable martial race.  The drell would have been a strong edition to the Prothean Empire.
Thane:  As slaves, you mean.  That would not be a desirable position for my people.
Javik:  Are the drell not servants to the Hanar?  How was such a weak race able to gain power over you?
Thane:  We are not servants.  The Hanar saved my people from extinction and we chose to aid them.
Javik:  Why would the drell do such a thing?  What is there to gain from it?
Thane:  Friendship.

Thane and Jacob -

Jacob:  So, Krios, I hear you recovered.  That's quite a bullet you dodged.
Thane:  I've dodged many bullets in my lifetime.
Jacob:  Haha, no doubt.  Your death was coming at you, full-force.  Even against the odds, you managed to make it.  Kinda like Shepard.  It's a damn miracle.
Thane:  Shepard is indeed a miracle.  Without her/him, we wouldn't be standing here today.
Jacob:  You got a point there, Krios.  You got a point.

When people say, "The whole point of his character was that he was dying," well those people are patently wrong. And having written him that way in ME3 was worse.

What kind of message is, "dying people are what disease they have?" My mother is dying of pancreatic cancer. Is she only the disease? Did she cease to be a person once she was diagnosed with it? Has she lost all facets of her personality because she is now a dying woman? Of course not. Why should it be any different with Thane? I only bring this up because I am, of course, not the only one who is watching a loved one suffer from a terrible, debilitating illness. For those of us who are or have, there was a strong connection with Shepard. That made Thane's death all the more terrible to watch. We did not need the message that, "sometimes, things are out of your control" or "sometimes, people close to you die." Many of us are living that reality, and certainly do not need a second dose of it in the video games we play for recreation. It could have and should have been handled with more care, more respect.

I enjoyed reading reply.

I also wanted to thank you for that part of your post. A disease does NOT define a person. This is something that has always bothered me with a certain part of the community because they like to think the disease overrides the person's personality or just the person in general.

Thank you, again.

(  I'm really sorry to hear about your mom too.  :(  )

I'm very sorry. I've watched many people close to me die, as well. This is why I felt such a huge connection with my Shepard. I also felt, maybe, if I could find fulfillment in a game that made me happy it would make a positive impact. Help me feel a bit of hope after all. As you said, it's enough we all have to deal with tragedy in our daily lives. Why is it so bad to have a story that makes us feel good at the end, where we triumph against the odds? Most excellent stories I've read/watched/experienced usually have that outcome.

I think sometimes people get so wound up in making something 'artsy', 'impactful', 'shocking' or 'emotionally charged' that they forget they are telling a story for the sake of entertainment.

A good story doesn't have to be overly tragic, vague or punishing to the viewer. It just has to be told well. Leaving us feeling robbed, depressed and angry is not going to endear people to wanting to experience more of your content.

Thanks. I didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable, but it was just the bloody cavalier way they went about it that galls me the most. Someone needs to stop Kai-Leng from killing someone? Just make Thane do it, he's already dying, ain't he?

Lets just have him talk about his disease some more, during the one conversation before he goes, 'cause what ELSE could he possibly talk about? His relationship with his son, or Shepard? Fleshing out his personal history that was only barely traced during the previous game? F*** that noise, he's dying!

Have him talk about that again, people don't wanna hear about what makes him an individual! The fact that he's dying is the important part, not that he was a person before he came down with that disease. What? Most people'll be too busy going on about that little fight scene we threw together and the way we'll pretend he died for a reason, to remember all those hints. The girls that romanced him'll be mad, but who cares about them?

And speaking 'bout not caring, lets get to Kanye Jacob...

Sorry to keep quoting you.  I have to wonder how many romanced/befriended Thane in ME2, BECAUSE he represents (to some players) those that have suffered/passed or are currently coping with either love ones illnesses, or their own?  By connecting to him in a game (an RPG especially) the player has at least, a mild sense of control over the fate (illness) of said character.  When clearly, they do NOT have that control at home (either for themselves or loved ones.)

I too have dealt with, and am currently dealing with ill loved ones, including one I live with.  Even though I never really concentrated on Thane's illness (as most who have read my rants may know.  Not to mention my Sig.), I honestly believed my player influence on his character, would help extend or save his life.  Wishful thinking on my part, but there it is.

@Visii- Sorry to hear about your mum.  Wishing you both well.

Now!  I must have laughs to go with my tears, so back to Perpetually Drunk Shepard in the Thane thread!Image IPB

Well, I certainly didn't romance Thane just 'cause of that. My mother's illness wasn't diagnosed until recently. I can see how people would, and certainly makes me empathize with Shepard and Thane more...

Why don't you have Perpetually Drunk Shepard fend off the advances of Kaidan? That bugged me in the game.

*Perpetually Drunk Shepard enters Engineering*
PDS- "Tali!  Ya got my Drell Drone ready yet??"
Tali- "Yes, Commander, but....."
PDS- "But what...spit it out woman."
Tali- "I couldn't quite get the green play-doh you gave me to stick to the drone.  Most of it kept falling off.  With Liara's help, I found and replicated (shudddup TNG fans...) the head of one Kermit the Frog, circa 1980.  I think it fits really well." *Smiles hopefully at Shepard....which of course we can"t see 'cause of that damn face mask.  Honestly people...why'd it need to be pink??  Couldn't find/make a CLEAR Mask.  Sheesh!*
*From out behind Ken and Gabby comes a pink and green (how izod of you) drone with a plushy Kermit head glued on to it.*
PDS - *grabbing a spare piece of conduit pipe (lets face it...with all the Alliance retrofitting going on, that ***t is just laying around), Shepard swing full cocked at the drone. Crack!  Hit's it right outta da park...errr...Engineering. " Booya!!"
Jack- "Godddamitt Shep! I live down here, ya know!"

It bothered me too.  So, we should sacrifice any sick person from here on out because... well, they're sick and dying anyways.  Who cares?  Go out with a *BAM* and try to make their death meaningful!  Everyone will understand and think it's emotionally deep to have a sick person take one for the team!  /sarcasm.

I have a lot of health problems, so I really wasn't amused.  =/  Not at all.  And for that reason, I think I'm going to have a hard time accepting any excuse they make for how they handled his character.

I hear ya.  One of the first things my roommate and I said when we got to the hospital and finished the dialogue: "WTF, we're gone for 6 months and this is all he has to talk about?"  Looked at each other and hoped the romance would go a little better.  Not so much.  We were both pretty disappointed.  And since it's only one conversation... blah.  They had a lot to build on and they dropped it.  But like you said, he's sick and dying and will die later on - so who cares, right?

Jacob's romance was very... oye.  I feel really bad for the Jacob-fans that hoped something good would come out of that one too.

*pours a couple shots*
To Thane!  Happy St. Patty's Day everyone.

@Visii - Ugh, sorry again about your mother.  I think I'm beginning to get confused as to which thread I'm posting in.

So, call for help!!!  I Never romanced Kaiden in my Thane romance imports sooooo, I don't have as much to go on as far as Kaiden hitting on Shepard after Thane's demise.  Care to help an old lady out??  Any quotes or insights (or actual dialogue) are welcome. Image IPB

I actually turned Kaidan down in ME1, then for some reason he told my Shepard she was 'a good friend', but he 'wanted more'. I just sat there blinking for a minute, then told him 'No'.

I don't know what I did. Maybe it's cause I gave him the whiskey, or was too nice to him. I wanted her to be there for him as a friend. Maybe I went too far.

Yeah, that gift thing for Kaidan...that's rather deceptive, isn't it. How was I to know that was for Kaidan and that I couldn't choose (imagine that) whether to give it to him or not. But, oh wait! Our choices have been taken away, yet again.

and @coldone :) Just imagine a varren humping Sheps leg, cuz really, that's about it. Seriously. Thane's dead? No problem, everyone moves in for the sexin'. Just sayin...
