If they wanted a tragic end for Thane why not do this:

Save Thane by a lung transplant between ME 2 and 3 (he could change his mind about that because he is in love with Shepard and wants to help her in any way he can).
So when Shep meets him in ME 3 at the hospital he is ready to fight with Shepard against the reapers. And than later in the game let him sacrifice himself to save Shepard - of course, after a well-done romance with a wonderful romance scene :-).

That's what I would call a tragedy.

Don't give 'em any ideas, they'd just muck them up.

We've already seen what kind of job they do when they kill him and try to make it poignant... killing a man because he's dying of a disease, so why shouldn't he give his life, I mean really. If anything, I feel like someone who's dying should be the last one to sacrifice themselves, seeing as they have less time than others...

Killing a character is easy. Having them live and seeing what they do with their time is far more difficult, but also more interesting.

I've always been fairly "meh" about Thane, I romanced him in a ME2 save to see what happens and never continued it into ME3, but I'm aware the romance wasn't great.

But I rather liked Thane's deathbed scene and him praying for your soul, it was rather poignant and well done  :)
Plus the way he dies was also rather cool ^_^

Yeah... not so much for those of us who didn't find him 'meh'

For a friendship his role is fine.

As I pointed out I'm aware for those who really liked Thane were rather left hanging dry

I must say the ending of ME3 made the Thane part seem like an awardwinning episode.

Regardless, I thought of doing a Garrus romance - since the romance part is very important to me. (it is truly sad that my main Friera Shep went to the final battle without a man by her side. She didn´t even seem to care about Thane´s dead, nevertheless say she loved him (WHICH SHE DOES!!!! )
But then I walked in on Garrus and Tali smooching together, and that option was ruined...

It's funny that so many liked his death. I didn't like the idea of ANY squaddies past/present dying without player choice involved. I really despise forced deaths of companions in RPG's. Making it difficult to have them survive something is a great gameplay mechanic, but forcing only one outcome...yuck!

I can't even imagine loading my m!Sheps who were like brothers with Thane. Knowing that they will have no impact on his fate, and so little time (poorly written time at that) with him......nup, can't do it.

I share your opinion 100% :), forced deaths is the best way to turn me off an RPG... even more so when the RPG has been designed to encourage emotional engagement.  Did BW not understand what it was they were doing??

@mnomaha  was it not in one of the groups? don't have a link, sorry

Ladies I might as well reply in, but cant remember if this is my first time on the forum. Bloody assignments, anyway I agree with coldnose....I have barely started up my second playthrough that holds my thanemance shep....and I feel no absolutel desire to play it. I mean

I could play finals in a month and 2 weeks or the excuse on waiting on DLC, but in all honesty if I cant in some way have the lizard king die properly taking out a reaper with him...if thats soo wrong to have then I dont wanna be right.

It also wrecks replayability- there's no desire to replay a different way to see things done differently and get to different outcomes.

The Neck Snap appreciation society should have a link, I think.

Anyone have a good link to Thane/Shepard dialogue in ME3? I tried the wiki, but wasn't getting anything. Bah, I admit, I can be bad at searching for things on the Internet. Used to be good it at......grumble.

@ Visii - I feel ya.....I am a complete chicken-***t when it comes to YouTubing the Thane stuff. Can't do it. It'll end up being more fun just to make stuff up anyway. Just trying to laugh through my tears. To bad BW couldn't have done that for me.

I am a lot like this as well. After Thane I never quite got back into the whole idea of enjoying myself and what is funny is that I didn’t even romance him, I romanced Garrus. Even in not choosing him he was still one of my favorite party members and this sort of felt like a sock in the stomach. I felt helpless to have as much of an effect when it came to the ME2 characters; not just Thane but all of the non-squad members seemed to just be written off. :(

Ongoing Adventures of Perpetually Drunk Shepard.

*Perpetually Drunk Shepard get's stuck in the Normandy Elevator*

Kaidan- *yelling through the doors* "Don't worry Commander!  We'll get you out!
PDS- "@&#^$ stupid Alliance....broke my damn elevator." <grumble>
*PDS pulls out a bottle of beer she had buried in her deep pockets of her N7 hoodie.*
PDS- "At least this hoodie is good fur sumthin. Bastart!  Not a twist off...***k!
Thane in Hallucination Form- "Siha.  You must desist this destructive behavior.  It serves no purpose."
*PDS tries to use Thane's head fringe as a bottle opener*
Thane in Hallucination Form- "This is disquieting.  That's me, Shepard.  Stop that."
PDS- "gimme a kiss....let's do some tongue tastin."
Thane- "That would be.....problematic."
*PDS blows a rasberry in Thane's direction.*
*Suddenly there is a forceful lurch.  PDS falls on her arse, and the elevator starts moving again.  Kaidan is there when the doors open.*
Kaidan- "Shepard.  Are you alright?  I was concerned." <tries to take her hand>
PDS- "Listen junior, stop trying to manhandle me.  You just want me to fall into bed with you, and act like nuffing's wrong." <bastart>
Kaidan- "That's not true, Shepard.  I care about you."
PDS- "Bahh....meh."
*PDS pushes past Kaidan just as Vega approaches*
Vega- "Even drunk and a mess, you would still tap dat', wouldn't you Hermano."
Kaidan- <shrug> " Damn straight.  I'd do it sideways."  <S.E.G>
Thane in Hallucination Form- <cracking knuckles> "Your body is dust."

Okay, not my finest work.  Getting distracted by husband and pug.....go away!Image IPB

Ok is it wrong that I laughed at this first because IT'S SO TRUE!  :crying:

Alsiony I think has a youtube vid, but I warn you, it's a Kaidan romance in ME1, then Thane...so of course Shep says something dumb, and Thane says "I'll look after him for you because I AM KEPRALS, err, DYING, AND THIS IS THE MOST YOU WILL EVER SEE ME SIHA.

Just popped in to say that I am really sorry for what went down with Thane, and sympathize with those that didn't like how it played out. Not just the death or the dialogue (or lack thereof), but the weird Kaidan-pushing after he dies and such too.

Can I just question why absolutely no one acknowledged Thane's death? Not even Liara, who's like Shepard's therapist. I just don't understand.
I hated how after Kaidan got *injured* femShep (who had just rejected him) was so distraught about it, but when Thane, her true love, *dies*, she seems completely fine about it for the rest of the game!! The only thing that redeemed Bioware for this injustice was "That was for Thane, you son of a ****." But still. Me and my fellow fangirls needed more Thane!
