So, my point is, I don't take "new writers" as a plausible excuse or reason. Not when it comes to a game of this scale, the LAST game in a series when everything is supposed to be wrapped up or resolved then the room for mistakes is very thin. What they threw at me was something even my kids would not do, it screams of laziness and I'm not going to sit here and accept this is the best they could do. We as fans deserve better and Thane sure as hell deserved better.

I don't know how they managed to mess this up so bad, ok maybe Thane had a different writer. Still not good enough for me. If I were writing for an already established character the FIRST thing I would do is go back and read all previous dialogue, watch the game play videos, and get some background on the character's creation. All the while, taking notes. Since this is a character who just happens to have an illness, start asking questions to myself. Did they intend for him to die? Was there any hints, clues as to not having him die? I'd go out and find those answers and again..take notes. After all that, I'd get a feel for what people want out of the character or expect. For example, checking BSN and skimming the posts on the character. This might take some extra time to do but if I wanted people to love what I'd done, I'd do this in my spare time. Then and only then when I felt I KNEW the character, I'd sit my arse down and start writing.

Agreed! I also will not accept the reasoning of "it's harder with a group of writers as things can get missed/lost" - Um, HE'S ON THE COVER OF ME2 PEOPLE!! Please tell me you at least LOOKED at your last instalment. Didn't you wonder who that hot green guy was?? Not to mention there is no way they have all forgotten all the marketing that went into ME2 - Thane was a staple! And how they bragged about his development? It just seems like it was all for nothing because people will just remember how he was treated in ME3. (except those of us that refuse to believe ME3 even happened and are content to have Thane (cured of course) & Shep live in a desert after ME2)

I completely agree with you all! The dialogue just smacks of laziness and/or rushing. I cringed more than there were dialogue options in the inital hospital scene. The "you don't have to wrestle krogan and snap thier necks" line sounds like a cold renegade dialogue choice. The most cringeworthy in that scene after those few depressing lacking lines is Shepard's jarring response to "private time." It's so off the tone with the rest of the conversation.

Did they ever say why they didn't give everyone their chosen LI?

agreed! 100% it doesn't seem like a very professional approach was taken when writing Thane at all.

What was the excuse they gave for those flashbacks just having Liara if the VS wasn't your LI?
Did they ever say why they didn't give everyone their chosen LI?
Before the game came out, people had it that there was some kind of glitch or problem with implementing the others, so they just left them out. The files only exist for Liara and the VS, no other characters,

<bastarts> I find it hard to believe that this would have been difficult to implement correctly in the game, but I think the problem may have also been stemmed with the fact that they decided to pull-the-plug on two of the full-fledge ME2 romances, and sideline two others, that may have made them decide to just cheapen it. These flashbacks should have been more based on player choices. What an incredible touch it would have been to have three (potentially) different faces in the flashback based on your RPing of your different Sheps. Of course, the LI portion would have been the easiest one to get right. Bleh!
@utaker - Very well said, my dear.
@Sunnie - lovin' the Haiku....more?
Oh, and whoever first found the Kythe interview (sorry, can't remember

Nicely said. I completely agree. I wish there were a way to get BW to understand. Unfortunately, I don't think they care. If they did they wouldn't have let this happen in the first place.

@Eliza...again, it would imply caring about it, or at least some form of professionalism.
@kaija...ugh, "private time"....that was horrible.
@Wildannie...great minds think alike. And I'm just having my first cuppa
@Visii...should have just left the whole thing out instead of insulting people with the half-arsed version
And I do love me some haiku!

I find that hard to believe. I think it's just more of bioware BS. Even if it is true then they should have left the flashbacks out completely. Did it ever once occure to the people at bioware that this might be a problem for some.
I didn't really like seeing Liara in my flashback at all.

Hey, I'm with you. Just reporting what I heard from that guy from the Something Awful forums, before the game game out. He had some development screenshots with comments on it, and they had been source of good information that was backed up by the Mass Effect 3 Space edition people. That was that he'd heard, that there had been issues with the others, and so they just ran with Liara, and Vs, game depending.
There had been a lot of hope that the day one patch would fix it. And here we are.

I'm not blaming you at all.
It just gets frustrating when you hear things like that. Liara and the VS are the only ones that worked correctly so no one else get's their LI of choice.

Exactly.
I know I will be more than a little angry if they get more content, and the ME2 LI's do not.

My FemShep didn't romance him, but she respected and cared about him. They were great friends. And dear god I almost started bawling during his intro scene, knowing what happens in ME3.
