I just went data-diving into the sound files for the dream sequences in order to see what I could dig up re: any underlying themes etc. I didn't find anything of use there, but I DID find a few from Thane that I've never ever heard him say in-game (I don't think I've ever heard Thane in the the dreams, actually). ANYWAY.

Thane's lines: - His prayer to Kala'Hira
- "It seems there will be no-one to mourn me when I die. You are the only friend I've made in ten years" (HORRIBLY ironic considering the treatment he got in ME3 re: mourning)
- The "don't make yourself an island" line I believe you get when you go a bit Renegade on him back in ME2

AND

"You are a great protector, Siha, but some things are beyond even you."

Which made me a bit teary - but then I thought you all you fellow Siha out there, fighting to give Thane something better in ME3, and I have to say it is a comforting thought that even if the options for Shep in ME3 are horribly limited, there are people out there outside the game still trying to get results for Thane, and for the FemSheps who care about him. Keep at it, guys

"It seems there will be no-one to mourn me when I die. You are the only friend I've made in ten years"-This is actually what I thought of after he died, and it felt horrible to know Thane was actually right. No one is there to mourn him, not even Shep, his Siha. I didn't know that played in the dream sequence though...that seems like a dick move honestly. Bw just likes to do that sh!t I guess.

The only line I ever heard from the dreams was the one about being a great protector, I loved that one. I actually just stood still in my dreams, hoping to hear Thane speak more. Eventually the game just cut to the scene with the little brat. He never said that line about being a great protector in ME2, right? That would mean we actually got a new line, no way!

Yeah, I know. It's kind of cruel. I'm guessing since he uses the "friends" line in there is might be reserved for non-romances to hear though, which might be why you've never heard it? That's what I'd have done if I were one of the sound design people, anyway.

I think the Protector line is new as far as I can tell, yeah. It's romance-specfic as well, which means - GASP - we get a whole line of new content! ....After Thane's dead. And my Shep never heard Thane in her dreams :/

Also, I don't care about the kid at all. I hated that he was the focus of all Shepard's dreams. If she's going to have guilt-ridden dreams then that's fine, but at least let it be reserved for people who she actually cared about who died. My Shep's background was colonist (so she saw everyone she knew and loved get slaughtered by slavers, including parents), then sole survivor (she watched her entire squad get Thresher Mawed), then she lost Kaidan and Mordin and the love of her life, Thane. I resented the game trying to make out that my Shepard was more fixated on that boy than any of the people she actually knew and loved that she watched die. :/

It's definitely not just you! I've always quietly disliked Tali, most people do like her so I've never really mentioned it. I watched that drunk scene on youtube-her going on about the straw? She's the least funny character to me, no matter how hard bw may try. I find her immature too, she acts like a brat to Shep during her loyalty mission in ME2 I think. I don't usually roast characters, but I am super bitter as well!

I like Tali more in fanfiction, I don't have to hear her voice and the first thing out of her mouth isn't always "my people".

I don't hate Tali but I don't particularly like her either. I didn't hug her during her LM, I know I am evil. I didn't romance her with my ManShep and won't ever. I couldn't, all that kept going through my head is "why?" She was just a kid, a teenager in ME1 and that's how I remember her. To touch her since knowing her at a young age is just wrong for me.

I like Tali. I was surprised by how popular she was because I didn't use her much in ME1.
I thought that picture of her that bioware came up with was silly and funny.
I did find it strange that the geth are now able to fix the quarians immune systems.

My second favourite romance is Thane and I'm just so annoyed at how he was treated as an LI. He deserved better than this and you just feel like the romance subplot was discarded into a bin (which it was).And for the drive-by commenters who say "He was SUPPOSED to die , he HAD to, you're all just mad because he died" can I compare that attitude to something else for a moment?

"Why are you all angry about the ending? Shepard HAD to die. Changing that would be wrong for the story. You're all just mad that he died"

Both responses miss the point entirely. If Thane was not romanced, then yes your interactions with him as a friend and how he dies makes sense. That I would not change. But if you romanced him (as others have said already) his entire attitude changes. It is not the same thane most people import into ME3. A romanced thane does not want to die anymore and this should have been reflected in ME3. Furthermore the complete lack of romantic content and emotion of shepard’s part is inexcusable. The fact there is no paramour achievement or acknowledgment that that shepard lost a loved one is inexcusable.
The criticism is how his romance was handled , and how the default friendship dialogue and interactions does not work in a universe where you romanced him in ME2 nor does it make any sense. There is nothing wrong with wanting more choice in game where choices were supposed to matter but for some reason people don’t like to apply this to Thane. His illness should not define his entire character, garrus was obsessed with revenge in 1 and 2 yet none would argue that he HAS to want revenge in 3 or else it wouldn’t Garrus otherwise.
 
What I’m asking for is another possible outcome that’s not available in friend import but in a romance import.  A choice to extend his life long enough that players can enjoy a decent amount of romance content, whatever that might be.  If most people (who don’t romance him) like that thane died the way he did then he will always die in their imports . What I’m asking for is that if you romance him that should create a different possible outcome , that’s all.

I thought Tali was 22 in ME1.

I'm not a fan of Tali either, in fact she wasn't in my ME3 PT as I chose not to recruit her in that ME2 save, looks like I'll not be experiencing her ME3 performance unless they fix Thane.
Even though I basically can't stand Tali, and really couldn't care less if she dies in my games I certainly would not support her getting treated like Thane. I wish BW had valued fans of all the LIs rather than only the most popular ones.

Tonya Gillingham It's nice to see that Thane was remembered, too bad my crew didn't remember him after his death. I guess he was right, "It seems there will be no one to mourn me after I die." Too bad my Thane-mancing FemShep couldn't muster up one tear for him either. Lovely job on the emotional impact.    I couldn't help it.

Even as a friend, there's the annoying tidbit where no one, including Shepard, comments on the drell who got stabbed defending the Salarian counciller, Shepard and the squad.

Everything else, I can roll with, even on the Thanemancer. The lack of followup hurts me.

Not a big Tali fan, at least as far as romances go. She *is* young and far too much like a little sister to be able to even think about it.

That photoshopped picture though...too rude and too lazy. And far too many gorgeous fan made pics to use something like that.

You're welcome! I must of been typing so passionately I didn't even look at the thread title properly LOL I do hope thane gets the attention he deserves, he's a great character and the people who romanced him should have been thought of.

I feel the same. Although I've always done her loyalty mission her way and got her pilgrimage gift in ME1, just to get the full role-playing experience. I wasn't sad when she killed herself, that was her choice so be it. 

I agreed with the Tali fans when they complained about that photoshopped stock photo. It looks like it was put  together in ten minutes. Mostly, I'm annoyed with the degree of laziness and complacency that Bioware is showing in their work.

Though Tali's treatment in ME3 is still 100x better than Thane's...just had to throw that in there.

Thank you so much for your words and thoughts and it's great to see someone who agrees that his romance was treated like garbage.
