Thane's disease has never been the part for me that defined his character but all the other things like the death of his wife, his revenge, his broken relationship with Kolyat, his believe in the old gods. Maybe that is the reason why I was quite sure that there would be a cure for him in some way ... because the Kepral's never had so much impact on his well developed character for me. It just adds another layer to his character that should make you feel more sorry for him (which was not necessary anyway).
So true. Especially the bolded. At times I feel BioWare committed a
Deus Angst Machina by overburdening his backstory with so much tragedy.
The space cancer (Kepral's Syndrome) was not necessary but that's all some people focus on.
They were on a Suicide Mission so every character was evaluating their life and trying to tie up loose ends in case they die - that was not unique to Thane and it made the Kepral's superfluous.
