From my dear friend Jenova...

There was an interesting comment I read somewhere, an observation.. that the ME2 LI's were never meant to be long term because the clues were all there - Thane - Dying, Miranda - works for terrorists, Jacob - same, Jack - bat**** crazy and off the rails... you were only supposed tempted by them, not love them, with the exception of Tali/Garrus but they don't count because they are from Mass Effect and were not created FOR the suicide mission. That coupled with the fact that you could allow ANY of these characters to die on the SM, was BW's way of saying - not really a LI... :/

If you try and find a solid reason for ME2's existence it gets tricky :( The only reason that jumps out is that they promised a trilogy and a trilogy they delivered.. they were too busy playing with their new shooter mechanics and combat to worry about anything else :(

Anyway, yeah.... they trolled us, basically.... xxx

If this was what they were trying to do then why didn't they just say that in the first place. Why not tell us not to get attatched to these characters because they wont be around. Why work as hard as they did on Thane if we weren't suppose to get attached. Why waste their time asking women around the office what they would like. They made miranda look exactly like Yvonne. They couldn't have been cheap because she's on television. The used her voice as well. Why make these characters so interesting if we were suppose to just be tempted by them.
Bioware knew we would love these characters. They wanted us to. They also know that not everyone loves the LI's from ME1. Also what about the people who never played ME1 did bioware just forget that fact.

Have they not noticed how large the Miranda thread is? Did they think we did that "Cure for Thane" banner because we were bored? These are clues that people have gotten attached.

If this is what bioware was trying to do it has to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If they honestly thought we wouldn't get attached than they don't know their fans or people in general at all.

I was thinking about this while writing my PAX letter. Half FemShep's straight relationships were put on the chopping block in ME3 (Thane and Jacob). I think the real reason might be due to the statistics BioWare collected from people playing ME2 which indicated that only 20% of players play as FemShep. The other 80% play as manShep. Meaning the FemShep exclusive relationships weren't getting experienced as much in comparison to ManShep's romances.

FemShep players are  a minority so they probably felt like it was ok to "cut corners" by axing two of her relationships. It's probably also why they didn't add a new one like Vega or whoever. This is just my theory and the thought really upsets me. I don't know if it's their actual reason for doing what they did, but it makes more sense than the ME2 LIs just being 'flings'.

Afterall, you can still choose to stay with Jack and Miranda and you still get the achievement with them. Their roles weren't that great, true, but they still "count" and their romances can be continued unlike Thane and Jacob.

Interesting thoughts from you friend @mnomaha.  Strangely, even though I can see the logic, I never read those romances that way.  I always saw it as they are a challenge, and with more of them to choose from than in ME1, the challenge can then make for interesting RPing.  Lets face it, the LI's in ME1 were some what limited (and not just on numbers).  I do really like Liara, but she was ready to "get with you" no matter what.  They wrote (IMO) Kaidan and Ashley, with a little more depth.....forcing your Shepard to make a bit more effort to get to know them, but still, it seemed a bit lacking....again, just my opinion.

So when you look at the LI's in ME2, many of them have issues and pasts that you have to learn about.  The LM must be completed, and they of course will make you choose, if you flirted (even accidently) with another LI (and yes, I realize that it was the same in ME1, just that there weren't as many LI's to get flirty with).  Take Miranda; my Abel Shepard (my first finished play through in ME2), started flirting with her as soon as the option became available.  Since I was playing the game without previous knowledge, I lost her loyalty after doing Jack's LM, so she cut the romance off.  Eventually Abel ended up with Tali (not sure how that happened).

It is also interesting from a gaming mechanic point when it comes to Tali.  If you start to engage in a romance with her, you will eventually get the "are you sure you want this" dialogue.  Funny enough, the choice to stick with her and "get busy" with her, is in the bottom right of the dialogue wheel........place reserved generally for Renegade choices.Posted Image
Makes ya think!

Considering that they gave hints at Thanes life extention/cure, Miranda and Jacob will quit Cerberus under certain circumstances, Jack will open up, and reveal a completely new side of her (which they seemed to have taken advantage of in the third game), and even Garrus and Tali have some minor personality changes based on a romance.

Anyway, just my observations......bah......need more coffee!

*EDIT* typos

thanks doll. You rock!

sorry, but my daughter's birthday is tomorrow and I'm getting stuff ready. 19 years old...where did the time go?

Awe happy birthday to your daughter! Does she play Mass effect also? I'm trying to get my mom into it but have not been successful yet.

Anyway I almost feel like BioWare just sits back and laughs about how pathetic we are and with as much as they seem to have trolled us...who knows? But I also get a little paranoid at times.

I hope they actually read our letters and not just toss them in the trash.

Ok I just found a video of top 10 Mass Effect moments (from ME1 & 2) as ranked on the Mass Effect forums, and guess who was #9??  Thane!!  His entrance was ranked #9 out of all the best moments!
How did they forget about him?  How??Posted Image

And for those interested, I posted my short one-shot that I submitted to the fanbook on fanfiction.net (might not be up yet), and deviant art.  Both user names are the same as the BSN.

Makes you think, that. Someone at bioware seems to have a really screwed view of how relationships work.

Hey Everyone!

The PAX Letter initiative is going well. We should have at least a hundred letters to send, great job!

The letters are all going into a lovely, Mass Effect-themed binder with pictures of the LI's on the front. Can't wait to show it to you all!

The thing is, we were hoping to receive some Fanart to put into the binder of letters. Doesn't have to be anything new, but if you have some Thane fanart or know someone who has some and wouldn't mind showcasing it, please post it or a link to it, here: http://social.biowar...884/1#10994435.

We're going to put the pictures into the letter binder as section dividers, to give BioWare a chance to rest their eyes from the onslaught of fanmail. Should turn out really pretty!

If it is not your work please get permission from the artist before submitting it. Nothing explicit, please. I'd also like to get some fanart of all the LI's, so please, ask around the forums here, or look around DeviantArt. And ask around the other threads!

Time is of the essence! And if you haven't submitted a letter yet, what are you waiting for?

Could you use something like this too? No drawing at all, since I am not talented, but it is my letter, a little bit "graphical pimped" :)

Thane finishes Mass Effect 3

Thane:  Just what is this garbage?
Shep:  I told you stay away from that game.
Thane:  I died and nobody said a word.
Shep:  Yes, I tried to warn you.
Thane:  You were trolled by Kai Leng.
Shep:  Yes, I know.
Thane:  He hid behind a gunship.  That is not an assassin, that is pathetic.
Shep:  I know but it was a big gunship.
Thane:  You at least remembered me when you killed him.
Shep:  You played a FemShep?
Thane:  No, I played as you.
Shep:  Let me see.
Thane:  I think you better not.
Shep:  I do NOT look like that!!!!
Thane:  Sorry Siha, I did the best I could, the graphics are kinda crap.
Shep:  Yeah I know but you looked good.
Thane:  That goes without saying but I have an issue with the flashback.
Shep:  Oh yeah that.
Thane:  Your last thought was of Liara?  Is there something I should know?
Shep:  Oh geez, here we go again.  No, it's just a game.
Thane:  That may be but are you sure?
Shep:  Pretty sure, we are here aren't we?
Thane:  Yes and I need to take care of one thing.
Shep: Oh no, I don't like the sound of this.
~~Thane leaves the room and heads for the cockpit, Shepard right behind him~~
Thane:  Did you play ME3 yet Jeff?
Joker:  Yes, it was awesome!!!  EDI and I ended up together on some planet.
Thane:  I died and so did my Siha.
Joker:  Well, you can't win them all.
Thane: No you cannot.  Why were you fleeing?  Why did you leave Shepard behind?
Joker:  I thought everyone was dead.  Don't get upset.
Shep:  Thane let's just go back up to our room.
Thane:  (grabs Joker)
Joker:  Wha?  Hey watch the bones!!
Thane:  Nobody leaves her behind.  EDI, can you fly this thing?
EDI:  Of course I can.
Joker:  Hellllllpppppppppp
Thane:  Kalahira guide him (tosses Joker out the airlock)

Visii, sorry, I don't mean to be dense, but were do we send those letters you need? Can I PM you with it?

I am in the middle of moving and so don't have much in the way of art work at hand, but would this do? It is unusual. It is how I decorate my cars in a game called Forza. You have to use the ingame editor and use the little shapes to make designs. You can't import any images. You have to make them with the shapes provided.

This is an example of the editor screen.

Needless to say, Thane is on more than a few of my cars.

I'm afraid that I'm not going to be able to get mine to you in time. With my crappy connection I only found out about it last night, and with everything I have to do today I'm not sure I'm going to have time. I'll give it a go, but I don't think it's going to happen. I'm sorry. :(

Re: art.... send a message to Xenofire. I'm pretty sure he'll send you all his art. I'll message him as well for you. :)

Also.... WOOT THANE! SHAKE THAT SWEET ASS!!!

@Little Vixen Those designs are a new definition of awesome!
As someone who has "dabbled" with Forza 4's paint editor, I have to give extra props to the dedication and time it must have taken to make those designs. My designs were nowhere near that amount of detail though.
I actually recall a lol moment when my brother was playing Forza 4, and he being the car collecting nut that he is had just added a lime green Lotus Exige to his collection.
As I looked up from my sketch pad I said: "You know that car rminds me of Thane, I mean the shape of the car totally resembles the shape of Thane's head, not to mention the colour".
At that point my brother handed the controller to me and said: "How about you use them artistic skills of yours and give it a Thane themed appearance".
And I did. It has to be the only drell freckled with dark green tinted windows Lotus Exige in the whole world
