I think it would be interesting if as a final act of his love for Shepard he sacrifices himself because he's going to die anyways. Grand gestures are so romantic!

Hey there Thane fans.

I don't think I've posted here before, but I always try to get the opinions of the different fanbases when I write about a certain character.

Thane has just appeared in my potential Mass Effect 3 fanfic, and I was wondering what you thought of how he's been introduced here. There's a choice linked to his introduction, so I was also wondering if that's a Paragon/Renegade choice you'd be interested in seeing in ME3.

Here's a link, for those interested:www.fanfiction.net/s/6601801/33/Mass_Effect_3_Into_the_Unknown

Oh wow! I liked that! I hope everyone votes to save Thane. That is a really hard choice...goes great with all the other hard choices Shep is tasked with in the games. I think you did a great job!

Yeah the fic is great, however, if a choice like that was presented in ME3 I wouldn't be too happy with it.  Unless there are some unknown factors in the outcomes of the options the choice seems unbalanced.  Unless they're supposed to feel that way at face value.  I don't know what kind of twist your fic will have.

Anyway, the choice given works for the fan fic.  If I ended up with a choice like this in ME3 I wouldn't complain, because Bioware could still not give us a choice at all, but I don't want something so cut-and-dry for ME3 unless the choice ends up more complicated later on.

If I have to make a choice that indirectly dictates whether or not Thane lives or dies I want to be emotionally torn over it.:crying:

@Lokipwner:
Thanks! So far I've had 13 votes and the general consensus is... interesting.

@Enmystic:
Well this choice was actually inspired when I saw the number of threads/groups/banners about curing Thane specifically. This is meant to test the integrity of those shepards. Will they save the lives of so many Drell they don't know, or the life of one Drell they are attached to? Its not about good/evil, forward-thinking/short-sighted. Its about who this Shepard you've been playing actually is.
Of course, there are some consequences beyond Thane's survival to be considered.

Stuff like that would only serve to make me throw my controller before I angrily take the game back to Gamestop.

Ah, so you're want to see if your readers would have the hearts to stick with Thane even with countless individuals on the line.  I applaud your evilness.:D

I was more concerned over whether or not the choices would end up balancing.

They probably won't make it that easy for us.

Probably not. I just wanted to show the ridiculousness between not having a cure for Thane while in ME1 there was a fetch quest where we made a cure ourselves through a minigame.

I quite agree!!

*Sits in spinning chair while stroking Varren pup held in his lap*

Why thank you!

I'd say that the choices aren't balanced reward wise, but that's all a matter of perspective. Some readers will find one result reward enough, while others will think a tactical choice is more valuable. This tests principle, and fittingly enough the vote in split in half at the moment

@Cosmochyck:
Thanks! I'll try not to disappoint. Still got a lot of awesomeness to come. Plus, I think you'll want to see what happens when Thane wakes up next chapter.

It’s really unbalanced. If you don’t like Thane it really isn’t even a choice. You actually get rewarded for not liking him. You actually do a good thing because you don’t like him. It’s actually just a question of how much do you like Thane. It’s totally unfair. And if you like Thane you feel like an evil person.<_<

Siha, have I ever told you how awesome you are? (I know I've said it before, but it never hurts to say it again Image IPB.) *Puts image in the OP....*

Also, fainmaca, hope you have an evil moustache along with stroking your Varren in a spinny chair.

Spinny chairs are amazing.

Indeed they are. I do not have a mustache, but I'm working on getting a tank full of Hanar with frickin' laser beams on their heads. Its... proving difficult. So far we've got ill-tempered mutated Salarians, but you know, its a work in progress.

My aspiration is to obtain a horde of pyjaks who have been trained to juggle. Then, I shall collect a brood of geth and have them make Thane some cybernetic lungs. Or something to counter is Keprel's syndrome.

The two are completely unrelated, of course. Image IPB

I completely agree. I always thought it was silly that we can play someone who was dead, but there is no way to cure Thane.

If they do give us the option I hope it's not some mini game where we create a cure like in ME1.

Finishing up my 7th playthrough tonight, with my new Shepard. First time I've romanced Thane without being locked in a stupid love triangle. Just have the suicide mission left. LOTSB and Arrival will be played in the next few days.

Has anyone tried taking Thane to the derelict Reaper? He has an interesting line about the dragon's teeth. I wasn't aware the drell had their own theories on this.

Yeah, I take Thane everywhere.  <3   I noticed only certain squadmates get dialogue related to the dragon's teeth. Garrus, Thane and Jacob come to mind.  Not sure about others.

You're definitely right that only certainly squadmates will trigger the dragon's teeth scene, Aislinn. As far as I am aware myself, Garrus, Jacob and Thane are the only ones who do. It is possible that Tali and Miranda do, but I don't really remember.

Jacob does as well, I think.  I didn't have either Garrus or Tali with me and I got the scene.  He's rather unsettled by it, since he was at Eden Prime.  I had Miranda with me as well, so not sure if it was her or him.

I could be wrong, however.  I've played through this game about a billion times now for footage with tons of squad combos.  My brain is somewhat scrambled.  :lol:

Yes I've played countless times too. :blush: Though I probably never had Jacob with me :whistle:. Therefore it's quite possible.
