I've gotten in the habit of listening to older cds when I'm playing a game that doesn't require actually listening to it. I popped Vertical Horizon's Go into my stereo while playing Oblivion for the 88th time or so and was rather struck by this song.
Vertical Horizon - One of You
One verse in particular made me nearly spit out my pepsi.
Go somewhere better
Go to the sea
Walk through the desert
Till your love flows over me
When I heard that, I went back and listened to the rest of the song many, many times. There's a lot of connections to be made. Heck, the first line is "Breathe in the water, drown in the sky."
Yeah.
Lots more to say, but no time right now. I'll be back later with that wall of text.

Wow. That is so suitable to Thane, Shepenwepet. And those are some amazing lyrics too. You know, I have been inspired to write some poetry about Rahkana now, and perhaps something about the bittersweet evacuation of their homeworld.

It's not so much the voice for me (not to say the voice acting is bad, mind you). I just find his eloquence and way of speaking to be truly inspiring.JECWSU wrote...

I knew absolutely nothing going into ME2, ME1 had to be pretty much forced on me, but I was hooked quickly, much to my surprise. (I actually hate science fiction...I'm more of a fantasy nerd.) All I gathered from ME2's box art was that we were getting some new squadmates....a woman who was clearly fanservice and some punk alien kid. I hated them instantly, mainly because I'd gotten used to my old team. Wasn't really attached to any of them, but I knew them. There was no need for these new people. I actually hesitated buying the game because of the freaking box art.
I realize now I'm a gigantic idiot.
By the box art I had Thane pegged as, like I said, some punk alien kid, in my head i could hear him speaking with either Yuri Lowenthal or Quinton Flynn's voice. (Seriously, not joking there. Imagine my surprise when I met Kolyat and Feron.)
Recruiting Thane in game was a huge eye-opener for me. So not what I expected, and easily my favorite video game character in a looooong time. His conversations were just so... relaxing. My Shep would have talked to him for hours if she could have. Collectors? Bah, I'll deal with them later. Thane's telling me about the Hanar right now.
Keythe Farley should have that voice insured.
Finally, for some giggles.

Thane's romance-specific death line is the very last one. It was supposed to play in if Thane dies as Second Fire Team Leader, but it was eventually cut so it's not actually in-game anymore. It is so...

I didn't mean it was only his voice. He does have a wonderful voice actor who did a great job. For me it was the way he spoke. The things he spoke about. The way he carried himself. It was just everything that I loved about this character. I really can't just point to one thing.

@Shepenwepet:
Wait, WHAAT! Yuri Lowenthal voiced Feron!? Oh, that's amazing! I just looked it up. I've watched and played so much media with him as a voice actor that I can usually pick him out, but WOW. Feron flew right over my head. I think I love the Drell even more now.
Quinton Flynn and now Yuri Lowenthal. As unlikely as it is, if Bioware hires a voice actor for a male Drell that is either Johnny Yong Bosch, Samuel Vincent, Matt Hill, Kirby Morrow, or Phil LaMarr I will die.
*cough* ...Sorry, fangirl moment. Those guys I listed are all voice actors too.

I love science fiction so I knew I was going to buy mass effect when I first saw it. I didn't really have any idea what kind of character Thane was going to be. I picked him to be my ME2 LI choice, because he looked interesting. Then when I finaly got around to doing his romance there was so much more to him. I agee that listening to was very relaxing. After every mission my Shepard would go down to life support and talk to him. I found it very difficult to not talk to him when I did the other romances. I loved his romance so much that I went back and played ME to make a single Shepard just for him. That was difficult for me, because I played ME1 so much when it fist came out that now it bores me. I enjoyed his conversations about the hanar. I didn't even mind hearing him speak about his wife, and how he meet her. I don't think I found one part of the conversation boring.
Glad to hear that we will see Feron in ME3. I liked his character, and I hope we can see Kolyat too.

Feron was a lovely surprise in LOTSB - and I didn't even realize that he was "rainbow" until now! Thane, Feron, maybe more drell....I may have to quit my job to play ME games.
I won't lie, I love Thane and Feron but I'm mostly hopeful to see Kolyat in ME3. He intrugued me a lot. Had a lot of interesting background development without even being in the story for 5 minutes. I would like further development and conflict with him even though its highly unlikely to happen.
One thing I dislike about Bioware is that they can come out and make these 2 dimensinal characters like Isabella from Dragon Age 2 or Jacob from ME2 and somehow feel they need to be the center of attention, while they have great characters like Kolyatt and Bann Teagan who just sit on the sidelines. They tend to flesh out their characters oddly. Its just my opinion though.

I quite agree. Although I think the reason that Jacob and Isabela exist to satisfy a certain group (I'm going to generalize for Isabela and say hetero men - again, not ALL hetero men- just a guess). They are the "stereotypical" romance - bland characters, predictable, which perhaps is a formula that works for a certain fan base.
If I had things my way, these games would take DAYS to complete. This also means they would take YEARS to develop as there would be so much story, background etc....so I get why it's not always like that.
Looking forward to all the drell in ME3...

Started my Thane romance Shepard over again (had to fix my ME1 info using Gibbed) and something's come up that I didn't really think about before.
The asari that takes you to the Dantius Towers says that Thane said no one was hiring him. He had a death wish, we learn later when we talk to him, I get that. It was his last "job". But when you talk to him in Life Support, he says that he would have fulfilled his contract, and that if Nassana's guards caught him afterwards, it would have been a good death. He accepted the Dantius commission from who?
Which was it, no one hired him, or someone hired him? X_X
On another note, I'm still having a bit of trouble with Thane's reasoning, much as I love the serious, sexy Drell. Kill for Hanar= body is the gun not the conspirator=no guilt or responsibility due to the "reactions" the hanar trained into him+not conscious decision on Thane's part. I get that.
None of those people he killed are on his conscience. In fact, he specifically mentions that the only deaths on his conscience are the ones that killed Irikah, because he consciously sought them out and let them linger. So far, so good, holds up with previously stated beliefs and background.
But after Irikah's death? He left Kolyat with relatives because Thane's occupation was still a hazard to Kolyat's (and the rest of the family's) health. He says that once he'd eliminated those responsible for Irikah's death, he accepted the Dantius commission because he didn't know what else to do. It took him ten years to hunt them all down, he finished and decided, duty done, to do away with himself while hunting down Nassana.
But he had no contact to kill her. Seeing as Nassana took the crazy/evil pills since Mass Effect 1 (hey, her sister was a slaver, Nasanna did the "right" thing), that made her a target that needed to be taken out. But if he did not receive a contract to kill Nassana, then he was killing her of his own free will and, (guilt at not being able to save more salarian workers aside) shouldn't her death be another on his conscience?
Looking around the forums, I am amazed at how few people really understand Thane's character. He does not have a problem with killing, he's not atoning for a life of sin- he is not ashamed he killed people. He's not a certain red-haired, cross-shaped scar having, reverse-blade sword wielding samurai from Rurouni Kenshin.
He is ashamed he killed a very specific number of people during a very specific point of his life for a very specific reason. Every other kill before taking out Irikah's murderers did nothing to damage his psyche. Even on the Suicide mission, since his arm is Shepard's, his kills are at the behest of Shepard, not his own conscious decisions, so for the most part his philosophy of separation between the body of the mind is solid but...

My nutty theory? Seryna (the Asari) hired him. Seryna Dantius. (that's the nutty part.). Don't think she'd like it to be known that she was involved with the assassination. The fact that she seems rather pleased when Nassana is killed, saying she owes Thane a drink, or something to that effect... found that rather odd.
But yeah, if anyone has other theories or can debunk that, I'm all ears.

He probably lied to the asari. That's my guess. You don't tell around who hired you for a killing or even that someone did.
"I have no assignment. But I will kill Nassana Dantius. Will you assist me?"
You don't tell random people you just met while fishing around for info that you're going to kill someone... she could have tipped Nassana off, or called the police... Thane was only lucky (or somehow had the foreknowledge) that Seryna had a personal axe to grind with Nassana.
Why lie and say no one hired him but reveal that he meant to kill her?
@ Shepenwepet
Yeah, and the fact that she dissapears right afterwords, in addition to her willingness to ferry Shepard and their posse around feels like there's a bit more to that particular story that we haven't learned yet... I mean no one in the towers felt any type of kindness for Nassana but Seryna went beyond the role of a semi-interested third party, I felt like...
