Yeah, I put it on my desktop. My husband's eyes about bulged out of his sockets when he saw it, LOL.

He's got some TOR  hooker on his desktop, so I  say we're even now :)

Oh dears....I heard my name!!! There is no such thing as TMI but I draw the line with too much TIM. I am on vacation and finally got internet...right and I go home on Saturday, always late to the party. I can't say I haven't had fun so far because I have. Sand, ocean, sun....men (to look at only). Well to think about too. Two things I have learned so far on my vacation....regardless if you like their music or not, Daughtry and Tommy Lee are both hot in person. Wait, was I supposed to be listening? Meh, they are men and they breathe that is good enough for me. Secondly, Thane figures do not appreciate sand in their cracks.

Okay... this is me posting this on the right thread. *sighs*

In less of three weeks, people from around the globe has gather together and made this campaign stronger. Thanks to people like yourself, we now have a great campaign. #SaveThane is at 444 supporters and we are growing stronger each and every day that passes.

#SaveThane has become more than about an option. For some of us, we find  ourselves once again fighting, but this time not from losing an option but to speak out for those with diseases, for those who lost love ones due to diseases and for those who suffer from diseases. BioWare cannot be consumed by their petty indifferences anymore.

We are now fighting for Thane’s right to live, to survive and if we should win the day, #SaveThane will no longer be known as the campaign for an option, but when people around the globe declare in one voice, “We will not vanish without a fight. We will not lie down and accept this”. We are no longer speaking out for ourselves but for others.

Hear hear, Squee.

This, here, is what the fight for Thane. It's not just the bad writing (though that pisses me off to), it's not just the sexism related to the lack of choice (though if I meet Hepler he bloody well better be wearing a helmet), it's the ableist treatment of ill people via Thane that pisses me off the most.

For those of you who don't know, though I'm pretty sure you all do by now, I watched my father die from several lung diseases from the time I was 16 until he finally died when I was 20. I have since then been the sole Carer for my ill, elderly mother. I am now 27. That's 11 years of continually having to watch those I love suffer and fade away to a fragile shell of who they once were, and while my mother is still alive, she is still very ill, and likely won't live for too many more years.

My grandparents both died after long, protracted illnesses. My aunt was diagnosed with Alzheimers earlier this year, after several years of showing symptoms. My mother's first husband had heart problems his entire life.

So in the end, it's not just about Thane, though he in and of himself is more than enough to inspire most people to fight. It's about those I care for. I will not sit by and let them and their memories be disrespected, no matter what medium the insult originates from.

Artistic integrity is one thing. This? This is a slap in the face and it WILL NOT STAND!!!!!

Chris Hepler, you have been WARNED!!!!!

@Squee

Welcome back! And oi, utaker mnomaha, I've missed you both!

And myth; Ditto. Writing incoherence aside, I'd be lying if I said that the notion that "Thane = ill so he must die" is ok because it really rubs me the wrong way too. And so does the whole "Character death + Tragedy = good story" "Character survival + hope = bad story" notions.

Pfft...survival/fighting for life makes for an inspirational tale if written well too, in fact, imo it is a stronger story as it really does remind you what you stand to lose if you falter, thus you fight even harder to not lose someone. Or at least that's what my RL life has taught me anyway.

Hepler mentions Thane around 30:00. He wanted to write EDI, Thane, and Samara. At least he didn't get Samara. I liked EDI though...

40:00 in, Gamble actually out right asks anyone who wants to ask what's up with Thane to talk to them at the Bioware HQ after the Panel.

...I really want to know what he said...

50:00 - "I wrote Thane in Mass Effect 3, not 2, so a lot of his character development- And I'm just trying to give you justice in 3. And, I chose Thane because I've wanted to write an assassin for a long time..."

....I'm not in a good mood now...

I can't help but sit here and go "What now?"

We still have that troll in nearly every Thane Thread.
Devs don't want to change things.
Every time I hear something about their mistakes from them I feel like dropping a cinder block on my skull would be less painful.
The entire game is a mess and it would be easier to just remake the thing rather than fix it...

I wrote Thane in Mass Effect 3, not 2,

I wouldn't be proud of that.  As a matter of fact, I'd be laying my head upon the loo and then slamming the lid on my skull repeatedly until I saw nothing.

so a lot of his character development

What character development?  More like character suicide bomb.

- And I'm just trying to give you justice in 3.

Next time try Google, some Wiki, the Thane fan thread on BSN, playing Mass Effect 2 with a romanced and non romanced Thane (especially the former), and some research before trying to  give us anything.

And, I chose Thane because I've wanted to write an assassin for a long time..."

And I might want to fly but I wasn't born with wings.   This is where you failed, actually epic fail is kindest thing I can say about this type of fail.  What you just admitted was, "Assassins are cool.  Thane is an assassin.  He's dying.  Oh, let's give him an epic assassin death!  I don't need to research his character.  I don't need to know anything except that Thane is a dying assassin."  I'm sorry but with those kind of research skills I wouldn't trust you to write out my shopping list.

I remember being heartbroken at the series end of Buffy when Spike died.  Then I remember almost breaking myself in half in joy when he was resurrected for the final seasons of Angel.  He was burned into ash...he was beyond toast but decent writing brought him back.  You would think that bringing him back from dust would make his character cheap or trivialize him but it did not.  They brought him to new places and he got the opportunity to grow even more as a character.  He was out atonning for all the evils he had done in his life, he didn't NEED to die to atone.  I learned that dying does not let you atone for what you feel you have done wrong, it doesn't wipe the slate clean.  If you die an evil jerk, you are still an evil jerk.

Yeah the Thane questions...hmm what happened to those?

Look, I can understand that you would want to adress as varied questions as you can on a convention panel.
But really? There was no way for say a summary, on what the fans asked after the panel in regards to Thane?

Like a compilation of the most asked questions? No?

One thing seems clear though, we've made some kind of impact; the question is what kind of impact...

Irregardless of what reasons where behind the decision on why the Thane questions were seemingly barred
from the panel, I will say this:

I will not be silent on how I feel about Thane in ME3. I will be civil. But I will not be silent.
I will be honest about how I feel. But I will be civil. I will explain why I am discontent. But I will be civil. I will express what I would like to see in regards to Thane. But I will be civil.
But I will not back down.

In short: "Keep Calm and #SaveThane."

After BW's 'revelation' early on after  the ME3 release, that they 'dropped the ball' and forgot Thane was an LI, I think this recent comment regarding Thane's writer is even more enfuriating!!

I mean, when you are called upon to write a character that has already been in the game/book/story/anything since before you, you HAVE to look into that character. See what he's like, what motivates him, what he is all about. Writing Thane as simply 'a dying assassin' does the character no credit, since it's one sided and flat-and I think we all saw that live in the game-and it does no credit to the writer, either, since he comes off as lazy and inefficient, doesn't he-and that's putting it mildly and trying to be civil here!

Heck, I know many of us in here write fanfiction and I bet we do a lot more research into our characters, when we need to, don't we?

Emerald...I'm with you all the way here!!Posted ImageWe will continue to speak out!!!

So I'm basically researching ways to be a better writer (as in actually learning the do's and dont's when it comes to plot planning, character portrayal etc) and I stumbled across this:

http://candidlycripp...-checklist.html

(It's a list of priviliges that the able have that disabled don't)

Someone could definitely use reading that one. You know who...In fact everyone should read this solely because it needs to be read. Seriously.

Some exercepts from the list:

(As an able person...)

•You are not made to feel, on a daily basis, by other people's attitudes, actions, and outside barriers, that you are not wanted and your opinion is not valued.
•It is not suggested, either implicitly or explicity, that you would be better off dead.
•You do not feel like part of a dying species.

An exercept from this blog post:

http://candidlycripp...oesnt-mean.html

"Ableism is thinking that it is okay, even commendable, for disabled people to want to die, because our lives are not worth living.  Ableism is killing us before we have the chance to live, all because of a pre-conceived notion of what our lives will be like."

^This.

My mother had people say things like that straight to her face. "That if she had it "that" bad with her disability, she'd probably be better off dead" When I found out, the next time I saw said person again I made sure to give them a piece of mind.

Just like the idiots who thought stealing her white cane (she is visually impaired) was "fun". I certainly didn't share that sentiment, so I took my cellphone and walked into the park where they paraded around with their "loot" and told them that they could either; return the cane, apologize and go home, or (pointing to my phone) the police would escort them home. They dropped the cane, ran and never bothered her again.

(Sorry if I come off as a depressing sack atm but these thing they need to be said)

@Emerald - Very good find. Thank you for the link.....and honestly, your posts about your mother have never been depressing to me. You have a unique way of presenting these experiences that you and your mother have had, with an interesting objectivity (even though, you are deeply involved with all of it). This makes it come across as 'relatable' and 'inspiring'. Good on you. :)

I'm with you. These statements of "just dropping the ball" and "ever wanted to write an assassin" are awful ... a slap in the face for all who love Thane for what is so special about him - he is not just an average assassin! He is something special, a character that should have been written in ME 3 by a caring autor, not just by someone who always wanted to write an assassin.

Heck, I know many of us in here write fanfiction and I bet we do a lot more research into our characters, when we need to, don't we?

Yes, we do - because we love the characters we write and care about them. That's the difference.
