I just wanted to say congratz to all on this form about the Cure Thane Project and the pic "We support a cure for Thane" its looks amazing! I wish the Samara fans would show such devotion. I really think you guys will pull this off.

@Emerald, amazing speech, so very true! Keep fighting the good fight!

Yes that banner...It was sent in pre-ME3..Posted Image (January 2011 if my memory serves right)

But we're still hoping and fighting! And I'm not backing down ever. And heck, I'm joining the fight for Samara (and Jacob/Jack/Miranda) too. Because well, we got short sticks for sure.

And it shouldn't be short sticks at all.
Everyone's sticks should be equal! Balance all the LIs!:wizard:

And Roxy, Coldi, Warlock, thank you for your kind words, they do mean a lot, and I'm grateful for recieving them.

Oh top! Pic time! Here have a simple  3dsMax render of Thane:

Why yes Thane, your "frill clippings" are most dapper. Even more dapper without the glasses Posted Image

@ Emerald ....what is a MacGuffin? lol...that is something new to me.....

A MacGuffin is an object that drives the plot (the crucible in ME3) or it's a "thing" that's conveniently introduced into a story to solve a problem.

Unlike the crucible which was a convenient "oh we didn't realize we had this giant reaper weapon blueprint two games ago but now we do so lets build it YAY!" that drove the central plot forward and didn't have much information behind it *deep breath*

THANE'S possible cure is not a Macguffin by comparison because

1. Cure ideas were introduced in ME2 a non convenient way. Your first convo contained "The hanar are working on it" thereby setting up future possibility of a cure in a realistic way. If Thane had said "There's no way anyone can cure it ever" and you stumbled upon an ancient flower that instantly cured Thane's condition then yes that flower would have been a MacGuffin. But that's not what happened. Possibility was introduced in conversation and in LotSB therefore if a cure was made , and was what was described in ME2 then it's not a magical  MacGuffin cure.

2. An "incurable illness" was not Thane's central plot in ME2 . His plot wasn’t him lamenting that there was no possible cure every time you spoke to him. His apathy about death and not having a reason to live or reconnect with the world anymore was his central plot! You as shepard challenge this in all its forms "forgive me for saying but you don't sound like a dying man" "what about your son?" "so you take no responsibility at all?"  “You should get out of this room and talk to people” Thane's plot was to find MEANING again and shepard can wake him up from a very long battle sleep if they choose to. An impossible cure is not what pushes his story forward, shepard challenging him and waking him up again is!

3. If the cure required a list of conditions for the player to meet then it’s not convenient or “too simple” . Importing an unloyal Thane or not doing a drell/hanar specific mission beforehand for example (rather like Rannoch and Tuchunka) should result in negative consequence . Reward for doing the correct things is not macguffin-like. Awakening Thane from battle sleep and wanting to help him should have resulted in an (expected) reward for the player.

4. Thane’s cure would have had a good explanation behind it that would have made sense rather than “this magic crystal we found cures cancer!” I was confident of this because once again ME2 had reasonable cure ideas and possibilities that didn’t make me go “WTF that doesn’t make sense!”

This conversation (sorry to derail but I'm laughing so hard) reminds me of this fic I read where Shepard's love (read:genitals) cured Thane from sheer awesomeness. *dies*

I personally feel that BioWare walked out on their own story.

They can scream "artistic integrity" all they want, but for whom was this story intended for? Them or us?

They did walk out on their own story. However, I am happy you told a mod to go suck an egg. I was proud when you told Tully the truth regarding the projects. I felt for the first time that we were truly fighting.

I know I helped you in translating a few stories into proper English so Bioware could understand it. You should have listened to me when  I said we should be video according what we were doing, so others could understand the depth it took to produce these projects.

I see now a bunch of people who do not appreciate or understand what you sent to BioWare, because if they did.... they would not easily let go how Chris P. treated it or even ask you step down now. He literally made fun of people's personal lives.

As a male, I say to keep bringing the thunder even if others cannot understand your reasons. It's the reason I keep following you because you know when to cross the line to get a response. You out of a few, out of every campaign I follow currently knows when to push properly.

You out of everyone was able to achieve pictures without even asking for it. I never saw such brilliance. You should pat yourself on the back and realize how brilliant you are to achieve this. The Miranda fan base is still confuse after sending BioWare multiple posters that they could not pull off what you did. I think they should have stuck by you, because through you, you could have brought them better success. It is only their own downfall for not believing in you and this fan base.

BioWare tried at first to ignore what you sent them but in the end they could not ignore it. You made this happen, it was you who made sure that this didn't happen and BioWare had no choice but to submit to you even if it was not welcome with kindness. You, Miss, made Thane's writer come out of the shadows. Do you honestly find it odd that right after you send them the #SaveThane material that Chris Helper just happens to show up?

No matter who says what, you did us justice. I am just afraid that you will back down to your fan base because they do not get how much you have accomplished. I do not want this to happen because I feel you are the best chance in getting a save option for Thane. I feel without you, we hold no real chance. So I beg you, with all of my being, do not back down. We need you, even if others haven't yet fully realized this.

@Raikoh

True, Squee has been the heart and soul of this campaign. She took the steps that had not been taken. And when the ride gets bumpy she holds on and I will be honest here, I admire that strength.

I do want to give a shout-out to the leaders of the other Thane projects too: yamainu, Moira, Cosmo, Visii, mnomaha, myth, wildannie, RShara and naturally Squee.

Well, it wasn't necessarily literally meant that way, but that's what I got from the story. It was quite amusing. I'm not going to say who or where since that'd just be mean to the authoress, but it was.......some gem, let me tell you!

Also...I think I missed some part of what happened to Squee...telling off a mod?  Getting Chris Hepler to come out of the shadows?  Tellllll???

And I must have missed that too.

Do any of you guys use chat? AIM, Googletalk or MSN? It's easier to explain there, and really the story isn't something you want to read alone

yeah skype, it's the only thing that hasn't added a bunch of other needless things onto my computer. I read lots of stories alone...kind of like.....

I'll just leave it at that.

Hm a recap is in order I guess:

The #SaveThane material of awesomeness reaches BW, Chris recieves it. Questions regarding the poster (the part of the campaign that started it all) surfaces. Initial dismissivness from Chris.
Eventually the poster is shown. A (imo) bad joke is said by Chris. Squee asks what was up with the tone of voice used.

Cue the SDCC and Thane's writer is revealed to be Chris Hepler.
In addition, any questions regarding Thane from the audience is requested to be asked at the booth, not at the panel.
Coincidence? Idk. But it is one hell of a coincidence if you know what I mean.

A few days ago, the topic surfaces again after Moira sent Tully her medical essay. The air heats up, at which point it is suggested that if Squee needs a break, she should take one (a well deserved break considering her hard work) and she does.

(I hope I got events right, seriously poke me hard if I didn't. I don't mean to step on anyones toes with what I'm saying. Just clarifying what happened from my POV. If my POV is wrong, then I'll fully admit that since I may have missed something important)

Ah I see. I read bits of that but didn't know the whole story. What does "the air heats up" mean?

And do we know what was asked and answered at the booth?

I know what I have done, what I have faced and how I am being treated.Trust me, I get it. I could go into an epically long response, but there is no point to it. Nothing will change, nothing will be done about it and surely no one will fully understand it.

I no longer care if we gain an option to save Thane. I don't care who takes over the campaign and I do not care what anyone thinks about me. I am done. I have given the opportunity, it is now up to others to take advantage of it.
