It was a suggestion for a treatment mission, not a downright cure (even if that's what I personally would like to see), because some may not want a downright cure, but rather, a way for Thane to live through the ME3 events and leave the epilogue to head-canon.
And that's an entirely fair compromise imo.
The main struggle I had when writing it was to make it appealing to both fans of "Le tragic death" and survival, and in addition, make it interesting irregardless if they are Thane-bros or Sihas. It also featured hanar/drell husk enemies.
I wanted to make it appealing for those who want him dead too. Now that I think of it, I would add something about a life expectation for Thane with this treatment- just a few months, before it starts to be not enough to keep him in good shape. After a player would get that info, he can convince Thane to get that treatment if he is loyal and if player has a high paragon/renegade score (romanced Thane does not need high score to be convinced). The fact that it could only prolong his suffering could be enough of a reason for player to choose not to convince Thane and feel it's the right thing to do. Therefore, even those who believe that Thane should die could be happy... I guess. But you never know with the people, sometimes they'll keep fighting every idea, just to make others upset. I'm thinking about way to make Thane a squadmate and still give him an option to die heroically, so that even the worst trolls could be satisfied.
A romance with Thane still wouldn't be all sunshine and bunnies after that, so 'tragic romance' theme remains here. And there is a hope.
After thinking about it for some time, I am convinced, that BioWare could come up with a DLC that would sell very well and would satisfy every fanbase. It isn't impossible and now I'm sure I'm not delusional, we are not asking for something that couldn't be done.
