"romanse: Thane, Jack
+ Samara"
I'll post the link again: Link

My mistake was translating the page first - spoiler tag didn't work after that:blush:, yeah that's the stuff from the leaked script.  better that what we got but still not good enough... I need Thane alive :crying:

So, I'm reading that, and the first section, for the hospital dialogue? Well, all I can say is: ugh!

Truth be told, I'm glad that was drastically cut down. That was not Thane, and that "thanks for being mature about this" comment?  Thane is the most mature individual in the game. Saying that makes Shepard out to be a little brat. And that "tried a little heroism" bit. Blerg. There are only so many times I can mentally throw up before I actually do.

But that first death scene. I'm wondering why they didn't go with that. it is so much better than what we got, (the extra dialogue from that isn't any good either). It would have meant a hell of a lot more.

And thus, as time goes on, more and more proof of Hepler's incompetence surfaces. I hope like hell he has lost his job. I really, REALLY do. Make him go write for Gearbox or some other company that doesn't actually require talent from it's writers. Or didn't.

Head. Platter.

@Serenade22 Thanks! :)

@wildannie I'd like to have Thane alive, too... but I think the first priority is how we are able to use the little time we have with him, and how we spend the last moments with him. I suppose I would be satisfied with some extented dialogue and more emotional death scene. The death scene as it is doesn't make me feel anything (well, maybe frustration). It's so stupid it doesn't even feel real, you know? I had never seen those leaked scripts before and when I discovered them I was like "WHAT? BW actually had some idea how to do it properly? WHY DID THEY CHANGE IT?!" :D

I wouldn't mind an option to save/cure Thane though. Killing him was obviously the easiest way to end his story because he was already dying. I think it would be so much more tragic and ironic if someone else, someone young and perfectly healthy had died instead, and Thane, the dying man, would still be alive at the end of the game. Just think about the guilt... "I'm supposed to be dead, why am I still here?"

@mythlover20 Yeah the dialogue is a bit un-Thane-like at some points. But otherwise I really liked that first death scene. In my opinion, Thane shouldn't have died in hospital, so pretty much anything seems better than that. :P

To me, the leaked script is even worse than what we got. And I agree with mythlover - "thanks for being mature about that" - it's incredibly stupid. Also, some lines were out of character... Hepler just didnt't care and if there is going to be more Thane in a DLC, then I don't want him to write Thane's dialogue. He cheapened Thane's character and his death too.

Adding an option for a life extension/cure is (strangely enough) easier to implement in a DLC, then actually changing existing content. One of the things that has been stressed by the devs/writers/PTB, is that NOTHING in the existing base game will be removed and/or altered. So that leaves only ADD. Since the game mechanics allow for Thane to not be present in the Kai Lame fight during the coup, this can be exploited.

So if DLC added an option for Thane, and said DLC (which would not be technically about Thane, but COULD involve him; see Romance DLC thread for DLC idea I wrote if curious) was played BEFORE the coup, if you followed certain paths for him to live through the game, the mechanics would default to an unavailable Thane (ex. Kirahee if alive, dead Salarian councillor if he's not).

Hell, the main reason I have always believed they could easily exploit this is BECAUSE you can have an alive Thane from ME2, loyal AND romanced, and if Shepard doesn't speak to him before the coup, he is NOT involved in it. He dies off screen and the Kirahee/Salarian Councilor scenario happens instead. I know this has happened since we have a poster that this happened to....not to mention, when the game first came out, we had some people who popped into the Thane thread, asking where the hell he was in the game (they missed/didn't pay attention to the email, and didn't see/notice him at Huerta).

Also of note, the lack of mention after Thane's death actually plays into a survival scenario easily.

There are no lines that mentions Thane whatsoever if he were to die off-screen, i.e. the one, and only thing, that directly references as Thane being dead is the memorial wall.

And I will never buy any argument saying that the triggering variables for memorial wall can't be changed. I'm confident that that detail is not difficult to edit with the scripting tools BW uses.

Heck I'd look into modding that myself if I knew where to search.
However, I have no idea how to actually mod variables (or, if it's even possible without some kind of toolset) and I don't know exactly what data to look for, or in which file the relevant data would be present.

But something I can imagine being possible for us toolset-starved modders, is altering the "stringid=X" (my educated guess is that something like that is the reference for the nameplate)* to be empty for Thane's name would result in exactly that, an empty name plate.
Sure, there would still be a nameplate on the memorial wall, but it would be empty.

*/ If the name on the plates are not decided by a "stringid=X", then it's probably a texture. But I find the latter to be unlikely, that would mean there is a seperate texture for each possible casualty and that would memory-wise be a waste of space in comparison to the "stringid=X" method. A texture would be easier to mod than the "stringid=x" though.

(Sorry for rambling technobabble everyone. Guess my exploits in 3dsMax has left it's mark heh)

Hi there Dragonslayer63 and welcome! :)

Well this is my opinion....I won't be satisfied at all if they don't give us an option to save him! Thane and shepard have had a rough life they deserve a happy ending and I think my male shepard has a right to save his best friend! Hepler is a failure...I hope they fire him to Myth! Thane from ME 2 was not the same in ME3...that "I'm so ready to die" attitude is not Thane and when he said he didn't want to die in a hospital...it pretty much happened that way which is horible!

All I can say is if they do a Romance DLC they better not be polishing a turd and just give us a lttle more conversations with him and that's it...they need to make things right and give Thane and femshep better conversations, a much better future(like a cure/transplant) and give us an option to save him from getting killed for crying out loud!

I'm sick and tired of reading peoples bull***t about how he is dying anyway....so what!!!! There are things called miracles,I've met people in rl who have survived cancer...*gasps* miracle!!!!

Yes i'm ranting people...sorry but you know me...I just gotta rant lol! Image IPB

Actually, if the techno-gooble you said, doesn't work, there is another very nice solution (which again I hint at in my DLC idea).  A new letter from Thane.  Once he stays on Kajhee for the treatment, the Illuminated Primacy puts him (and Kolyat) in a version of Witness Protection, due to his outstanding service to the Hanar.  But of course, he has one request; a chance to send a covert message to Shepard.  This email could contain very general information about his "death" to Shepard, indicating that he has been pronounced dead so that his enemies would not go looking for him, but that he is also being moved and identity changed to further protect himself and Kolyat.  For a friend Shepard, this would simply end with best regards and hopes for the future.  For a romanced Shepard, it can be a further declaration of love, and a promise to search her out, once the reaper threat has passed.

The end result of such an email would be that having his name on the memorial wall would still fit; completely.  Not a thing would need to be altered. Viola!  Image IPB

Great!

The name on the wall is a variable indeed. I tried to mod it with the ME3Explorer kit but it wasn't easy. Maybe when we get better at reading conditionals.

But the Witness Protection thing works beautifully

@DragonSlayer63 for me the only priority is an option to save thane, if they don't give us one, I'll probably never play any ME game ever again, and I certainly won't be playing ME3. I would probably be even more pissed of with BW if they gave more Thane dialogue within the current story and hired all the voice actors to comment on Thane's death... I can't really emphasize how much that would be too little too late for me.

... it's mnomaha's birthday??? happy birthday!!!

It's sad that the ME2 crew wasn't a priority for them in ME3. If they don't fix Thane and the rest of the ME2 squad then there is no real point in playing. They are the ones that need more time.

Thanks for the wishes ladies. I shall spend my birthday...packing... :( I hate moving.

I agree with you JECW. There are a lot of upset people out there. Not everyone hangs out on BSN. I certainly have no pressing need to purchase another biosellout product.

Happy Birthday Mnomaha (even if it's a bit late.).

Wait them comments are they like biomonkeys? I mean some of the things being said are direct quotes from the charisma department, just saying my honest thoughts here. Either way when I find something them people who post them comments like I'm gonna go take a big steaming dump all over it and then rub their face in it and tell they "It's good, it's amazing stop b!tching now"
