Wow I just noticed how long my post was... Sorry guys, lol!

I'm sure there are great reasons to love the Garrusmance in ME3, but I personally didn't like the direction it went in. It was like eating my favorite flavor of ice cream and halfway through finding out that the bottom half is actually mint chocolate chip flavor instead.. yuck. At least thanks to that I discovered the amazingness that is Thane in ME2. ;)

And while I have no regrets for sticking with him, I REALLY don't blame you and others for not wanting to romance Thane after the trainwreck that his "development" is in ME3.. Really that whole experience is horrible.

Edit for top!
This is... somewhat relevant and not to mention really cute. Teehee :P

Well then that makes a lot of sense. Everyone has different tastes.. hence why having an array of LI options is good, not just the choice between Garrus and Kaidan.. ugh. Male players have all kinds of options, Msheps who like the strong type get Jack, those who like the cutesy kind get Tali, those who like sexy get Miranda, those who like getting spoiled above others and really like the color blue... get Liara. And so forth.

Heh, what made me like Thane?

It went something like this:
Hey, we are going to recruit an assassin! Cool. I tend to like these "rogue" type characters.
Heck, remember Zevran? Reaver? Balthier? Lyude? Yep. All of them more or less fit the "Rogue" archtype.

So...Drell Assassin then. Huh? He saves people? That was...odd.
*Reaches Nassana, Thane drops down" Wow, now that's a badass if ever I saw one!

I told myself, ok, you can't like a character simply because of "OMG badass!" factor.
You've got to get to know the character! Who knows what kind of character he really is...

*Talks repeatedly to Thane after missions* OMG he's awesome! He's philosophical, and he's honest, and...and big dark puppy eyes! Wait...what was I saying again?

The "I want you Thane" dialogue choice pos up. Wait....you can...you can romance him?Posted Image
(Yes, I had no idea you could romance Thane, I figured Garrus/Jacob/Kaidan/Liara were my choices as Fem-Shep)

But the "I want you" sounds wrong...and you romanced Kaidan in ME1....Posted Image
*Looks at Thane on the screen* Aw, to hell with Kaidan! Posted Image

And then..."Siha" = Posted Image The rest of the romance was just filled with more awesome.
And that's how Thane got a permanent spot on my list of favorite characters ever.

And now, for something completely different (and sligthly OT)!

I've got a tradition with my mother; we play videogames together, or rather, I play them, and she enjoys the story.
(She can't play them herself because of her handicaps)

And the game series we're playing right now is ME.
(We are not going to play ME3, Since I have too many Thane feels regarding it)

So we've just dived into ME1.

(She's the one making the choices, I'm just a proxy holding the controller and killing the bad guys)

It's a Fem-Shep playthrough; Spacer/War Hero/Infiltrator. And most likely, she'll be completely Paragon. Posted Image

We played through Eden Prime yesterday. For a good laugh, I'm going to share some of our conversations while playing:

*Jenkins dies*

Her:*Gasp* He...died?! That's awful! Can't they do something for him?

Me. No.

Her: Posted Image A lot of people are going to die before the end of this game right?

Me: Well, alot is going to happen that's for sure.

Further on in the mission:

Her: Hey, that guy (Kaidan) seems clever! I mean, he seems more level-headed than that girl, what was her name...

Me: Ashley.

Her: Ah yes, Ashley, well she may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but I'm sure she contributes alot to the team right?

Me: Well, actually yes. But, you are going to get more characters on your team. I won't spoil who they are.

Her: Yay! Ah, we've got to go after that creepy silver coloured turian (Saren)! He killed Nihlus! D:
We won't let him get away with it!

Me: No we won't.

Oh dear, she has no idea what's in store.. XD

[Edit] Oh boy took me over 3 hours to notice that spell phail. Posted Image

Oh, COME ON!!!! I'm away for two days due to crappy internet and dancing in Townsville (slipped and banged my knee up pretty hard, too. I'n not going to be kneeling for a few days! :P) and there are four, count 'em, FOUR new pages?!

Why do you keep doing this to me? You guys know I hate missing out on all the fun, and now that gears is back there's a lot of fun I'm missing out on. :( Plus, talking to you guys helps silence the voices I have calling to me at the moment. They're scaring me!!!:crying:

Why for sorry, gears? Those posts are so much fun to read! Don't be sorry. Let the good mood shine on, brother.

Eww. Shouldn't call you brother considering the theme of our banter. *shudder*

I agree.

@firel: *Tackleglomp* welcome back, hon!

@dino, wildannie, coldie, roxy, and emerald, re: Thane dying argument on page 600? I agree. We've all have gone through this in real life with those we love. We've all been dumped callously by someone we thought we were in love with or were just in a relationship with (even if not at the "love" stage at the time). We KNOW what this is like, already.

Video games are not just art, they're tools of escapism. In our case, we couldn't save our fathers, mothers, husbands, lovers, brothers, sisters, friends, whatever's, in real life, but we bloody well should have been able to in-game. Making Thane a LI then visciously slaughtering him was a MASSIVE insult ot all thinking and loving women and men who were fans of his character. Jacob too! What BioWare did was just wrong, wrong, wrong! Hopefully one day a moderator will come in here (unlikely I know) and will actually read some of this thread and will eventually understand it.

Yeah, yeah, I know. It will never happen. Still, unprobably as it is, it is still (highly remotely) possible.

You're right about the fact that had the choice been implemented from the start we wouldn't have a problem with the children and man-children that populate these threads. Personally I'm up for the idea of releasing an air-born virus that is specifically targeted to wipe out all the mysognistic pricks that are out there, leaving the good, considerate, kind men alive to improve the breeding stock.

Yeah, okay, I would never do it, but still.... GODS I HATE THEM!!!! There is no hand big enough to back hand or **** slap the bastards with. <_<

Okay.... think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts, naked Thane dipped in melted chocolate happy thoughts....

Mmm. Chocolate-dipped Thane *drool*:devil::devil: Okay, I'm good now.

@utaker... Hmm... Space Jesus. That needs to be tweeted. Maybe if we incite enough people someone will start listening.

Chocolate-dipped Thane with sprinkles..... :o:devil:

@ Emeraldfern: There was a  Vega romance and a post-coup mission?

I'm stealing this gif.

Yeah, I'm definitely not a fan of rescuing Kolyat again, but this time at least Kolyat was trying to do the right thing. Don't really like the motive behind it at all. "Prove he was C-Sec material?" Yeah, like police recruitement actually works like that. Bloody Hepler is a ****ing idiot!!!

Chocolate-dipped Thane with sprinkles and cherries......

@giftfish. I agree that all three possibilities are likely. In fact, all of them probably worked in conjunction to form the mess that is ME3. When Bioware is bought by Valve (I'm dreaming here, I realise that, but I gotta remain positive for my own psychological well being) I would love for them to remake ME3. It won't happen cause I can guarantee that EA will still retain copyright over the ME and DA series, so we wouldn't see any new content from either of them. Hopefully though the new owner will buy the IPs as well.

Personally I can't wait to see EA fall. They have murdered the companies we love for far too long and consumers have finally caught on. Now they're paying the price. I HOPE YOU ROT IN HELL YOU SICK, GREEDY, MYSOGINYSTIC, SEXIST, RACIST, MISERABLE ****ING BASTARDS!!!!!!! Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

If I was in any other thread I would worry about getting banned for that but we all know the moderators never come in here.

Chocolate-dipped naked Thane with sprinkles, cherries, and a banana. :o

Re: women writers. I do think there is only one now. I know there was two or three for ME2, but for ME3 there's only one, and she didn't write any women.

I still say that the gender neutral dialogue is the best in the games. It's what feels the most natural. ME2 and what I've played of ME1 has the most of the GN dialogue, and it FEELS a lot better. Trying to have "more exclusive FemShep content" but having a man write it.... stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. It's making me think that we will never see the day when women are treated equally... in any context.

Adding an Aria romance is also stupid. Pandering to the boys that play the game who have the mentality of three year olds in the "mine mine mine" stage. *spit* *table flip* *stab* Never mind the fact that anything other than a brief fling would be extremely out of character for aria. We all know that she cares for nought but her empire, and Shepard, male or female, does NOT have the power to change it.

Also not to mention that any sex scene would have to be violent to stay in character and definitely NOT make it past the censors.

Chocolate-dipped naked Thane with sprinkles, cherries, a banana and kalua.=]

@Sable (on page 601) I understand what you're saying, but at some point someone, or rather several someones, made the conscious decision to kill Thane and make Jacob cheat. Someone CHOSE to turn Kaidan in to a mysogynist and use the "cheating" dialogue. Someone CONSCIOUSLY CHOSE to make Garrus an import-only romance, and cut the Vega content (though I totally buy that he wrote himself out of it, because my characters write themselves out of what I had originally intented for them all the time. It happens). They also CHOSE to NOT cut out any male-only LIs, or lesbian LIs. They CHOSE to give the mind-rapist that is Liara the most content. They CHOSE to give the male-only LIs better quality content, and to turn FemShep into a ****. These things don't just happen. They are CHOSEN to happen.

Chocolate-dipped naked Thane with sprinkles, cherries, bananas, kalua and a lime cheesecake. ^_^

@ Emerald: Javik had more content? He was actually IN ME3, and not just tacked on? *headdesk* THAT would have been worth it! He SHOULD have been in it and made plot-relevant. *sigh* I should go back to bed, and write something. Oh well, two pages to go...

Re Cut Content. I'm up in the air about this issue. It would depend on what the content was (not the rescue Kolyat 2.0 bit). I want, no, DEMAND, a Thane mission, a rewriting of ALL his content, and the option to save him. After that.... I'll take a look. And for the record, I still don't have Leviathan. Not really game to download it after the bull**** I went through with the EC, which I STILL don't know if it works...

Chocolate-dipped naked Thane with sprinkles, cherries, bananas, kalua, lime cheesecake, and a single red rose. <3

Just finished reading the Focus Friday. Great job! :D

@DragonSlayer63('s sister): I fell for Thane later in the game. It was a gradual thing over the course of the conversations, because with the Shep I was playing at the time (Margaret) I was romancing Garrus. The second he quoted Hobbes, though, is when I knew that I had fallen in love with him, myself. I almost made Margaret dump Garrus for him, but I felt bad about it so I let her stay with Garrus (a good decision because she really doesn't suit Thane) and created my Canon FemShep: Margurite! She's a sophisticated Viking woman who is beautifully matched with Thane. But yeah, me, I fell in love with him gradually throughout my playthroughs, even the renegade one where the FemShep is a racist **** who treats people like playthings, and all my time here on this thread made me love him (and his fellow fans) even more.

Chocolate-dipped naked Thane with sprinkles, cherries, bananas, kalua, lime cheesecake, a single red rose with a pretty metallic bow on it, and a small, ring-sized box.

@mnomaha: Voted! :D

....

WOO HOO I'm finally on page 603!!!

@firel. Now that you mention it, Garrus's romance did change a lot in ME3. I mean, I still think it's in character for Garrus, but now that I think about it, a bit more content bridging the romance in 2 and 3 would be nice. I did love the bit about the scars though, since I've seen/read a lot of fic that mentions his scars in loving detail. But yes, the comparison between 2 and 3 is radically different. A lot was radically different.

Thane is obviously the best one in ME2 and had he been in ME1 he would have beaten Garrus in all polls. The fact that he came in in ME2 was the reason he didn't have as large a fan base; there wasn't enough time to truly get to know him.

PS That pic is so funny!!!

@Emerald... That sounds like so much fun! Come ME2 you're going to put your foot down on the Thane romance issue though, aren't you? :P

I wish I could do that with my Mum, I'd love to share Dragon Age and ME 2 with her, but she isn't interested in my games. :crying:

I'm going to have to come over and spend a couple of weeks with you. :)

And...... I'm done. YAY! My fingers are about to drop off but I'm done. Phew. I started this at 11.00PM and it's now 2.05AM. But I had 1 and a half multiplayer rounds with one of my Garrus mancing origin friends, until the game stopped working.

So.... wish me chocolate covered Thane dreams, everyone, and I'll see you in the morning! *blows kiss* LUVS YA ALL!!!!!

@DragonSlayer63 Tbh I went on to play ME2 first before I played and finished ME1....I was gonna romance Garrus ( I do like Garrus but I l♥ve Thane more!) I knew about Thane but I didn't know much of him but knew he had an illness. When I went to recruit Thane....he had me when he jumped out of the vent in Nasanna's penthouse! I vaguely remember Garrus saying that "You sure know how to make an entrance"....I was already drooling all over my keyboard....the more I got to know him the more I loved him! For a moment I was trying to keep myself from having my femshep romancing him...cause i was gonna have her romance Garrus...but I said "Screw it" I am gonna have her romance Thane.....Oh I have loved him ever since! Posted Image

I admit his illness did bother me a bit at the beginning but I mentally slapped myself  and told myself to never think like that again...and I haven't...especially when I have an illness also and my hubby married me cause he loves me and everything about me not because of my illness! I guess I was trying to protect myself but with what my hubby has done...takes guts to love another with an illness! I love Thane for who he is ,his personality his charm,DAT BODY...DEM THIGHS!!! Posted Image ...oh sorry haha..
I think I've lost count of how many siha's I have in game right now lol! Posted Image

Let's keep fighting for that option to save our Handsome Drell everybody! Posted Image

@ firel  That pic is cute, thanks for the link! ^^

I was a Kaidan girl, and happy about it, in ME1. When he dumped me in ME2, I was majorly ticked. One of the things I really liked about BW games was the romance, and my Shep wanted someone to be close to after everything that had happened. On my first playthrough, I liked Garrus but he was just too alien. Jacob was boring. At first, I didn't like the way Thane looked. Guess I was a bit of a xenophobe. But the conversations with him won my heart. He was so mature, but there was so much depth to his character. I loved the idea of a guy so dangerous, but you know you're completely safe around him. There's probably a bit of the "you're the one who can heal the broken sexy guy," too.

On my second playthrough, I wanted to romance Garrus, I really did. Got all the way up to saying "yes" and then I decided I just couldn't leave Thane to be all alone, so I reloaded and told Garrus I was just kidding and walked right over to Life Support.

@Emeraldfern - I love that you play games that way with your mom. I think that's awesome. If my mom lived closer, I'd try to do that with her.

Ridges ;)

You know what kills me about ME3? We finally get femShep in trailers and in advertisements yet in the game they treat her unequally. Like @mythlover20 said, they made conscious decisions to do this. I'm sure things had to be cut because of time restraints but it could have been tempered with femShep players and female fans in mind. Especially regarding her LIs.

First: They didn't have to take away Thane or Jacob. They could have done a Jack like mission with them and gave the Paramour achievement.

If they had to take Thane/Jacob away I'd rather Thane show up toward the end dying to protect Shep from a reaper than dying at a Cerberus ninja's hands. Jacob could have distanced himself from Shepard saying he didn't want her to worry about him while she's trying to win a war. He then goes to the Crucible to protect it. I think that fits Jacob's character than cheating douchebag.

Second: If they had to take away LIs, Garrus should have been available for non import femShep from the start. Sure they would have to tweak it a little but since he's been there from the start I think it could have worked. From my playthrough, it seems to work for broShep and Kaidan. James should have been available too or some other male. This would have had two males for femShep and two females. Still not equal to broShep but at least you have some variety.

Third: I would change the whole cheating thing with Kaidan. It's such bull that femShep can't yell at him and pretty much has to apologize while broShep can yell at Ashley. There's no reason for such a change.

So there are my ideas. femShep is still on the short end of the stick but at least it isn't so glaring obvious.

@DineBoo I agree it's bad enough that they take away Thane and Jacob..but for Femshep having to apologise to Kaiden?...for what? He's the one that ended it in the first place! Femshep has no reason to apologise...she moved on...and to somebody better...or not...depends on if you want to still be with Kaiden after he dumps you and was complete **** to you! *shrug*

re female writers: Actually, I know one (out of three female writers) did write not one but two female characters; Liara and Samara. I think it was Sylvia Fekekuty (Spelling?) who wrote them.

Although I'll interject that L'Etoile did suceed in Fem-Shep exclusive content ;)

re Javik: Yes, he was integrated in the main plot.

He had lost parts of his memory after waking up from stasis, and he was supposed to be the one recieving the Eden Prime beacon but since it went *poof* in ME1, they needed another beacon; Thessia's.

Troleng shows up in that scenario too, but rather than a Prothean VI being his target, Javik is, because it turns out Javik *is* the Catalyst. So Troleng kidnaps Javik and leaves Shep & Co to die.

This is where the Virmire decision 2.0 was supposed to occur, and you had to choose which squadmate would be saved.

Tbh, I don't think I'll even need to nudge, for some reason her favorites (when it comes to videogame characters) tend to be the same as mine too. I think she almost fangirled as much as I did over Balthier in FFXII for example.

( I don't know if that's a good or a bad sign Posted Image )

That said, she has a weakness for intelligent lads, so Kaidan's going to be a close contender.
Hmmm...must scheme up a plot to keep Kaidan's grubby hands off Shep! Posted Image

Guys, can we please stop throwing around the sexist and racist allegations at the devs, calling them idiots, that sort of thing?  I know the mods and devs don't turn up much in this forum, but it still looks bad.

Allan Schumacher over on the DA forums had a good point.  Saying you didn't like the game is fine.  Even saying the game was a piece of crap is fine, and I think we can all agree that at least parts of ME3 were utter crap.  Insulting the members of the team?  They understandably don't take that well.  Whether or not you liked ME3, the team who worked on it at BioWare are still human beings, and most of them had no creative oversight at all over the project.  They're environment artists, animators, build engineers, who probably put in months of 70+ hour work weeks to make the game happen.  I don't think it's fair to throw all that vitriol at them.

mythlover20 wrote...

I've said this before, but I don't think I made it clear.  If BioWare honestly intended racism with Jacob and/or sexism with Kaidan, it would've been in all of their dialogue and development in ME3, regardless of Shep's gender, regardless of romance status.  It's not there.  It only comes off that way in the FemSheps who romanced them, which to me implies it's negligence as a result of the game being rushed rather than a choice to be deliberately racist or sexist.  Is that acceptable?  Absolutely not.  And there's really no difference in the result--a bunch of crap character arcs.  But there's a huge difference between accusing the developers of negligence and accusing them of deliberate bigotry; I think the latter is a serious enough charge where it should not be swung around lightly.

@Sable Rhapsody I hear you, and wouldn't want to accuse any individuals on the BW staff of being racist or sexist and I am sure that there was no racist intent with the Jacob storyline, perhaps there was some ignorance though idk... I also don't think there was any intention of sexism with the kaidan shep dialogue but if the lines were written by the same writer then they demonstrate quite a lack of insight.

Unfortunately the fact is that the decisions that were taken (regardless of the reasoning) resulted in the discrimination against previous choices of femshep, which basically means that some female players were discriminated against and there is no getting away from that fact. It is one thing for games to not provide options for female players and another to take away the options they already had. While I agree that direct insults is absolutely not the best way to go, I'm not at all uncomfortable about highlighting discrimination, I really feel it is important that they know this is a perception some have . Maybe if they are aware of this they would be more careful in future to avoid this kind of thing.

If they had to scrap 2 romances, the logical fairest choice would have been Jacob and Jack (I'm not advocating this btw) as they seem to be the respective least popular LI for femshep and maleshep.

Anyway, basically I agree that it was probably negligence, but that doesn't excuse that the end product discriminated against female players.

Hmmm.....it is a bit tense in here.  Of course, I am just as much to blame.  It is easy to get wound up in the moment, and say things with less consideration or discretion.  Not an excuse; just the fact it happens.

As for the the feelings on the writers, all I can say is this; I don't like how many of the storylines and character arcs were written in the third installment of this series.  Maybe under different circumstances those that I find lacking, could do much better.  It is even possible that with some of these characters and plotlines, that the writers were chosen at random, pulled out of a hat, grabbed the short straw, pick a number between 1 and 10.  The point is, there seemed to be a lack of checks and balances, proofing, and possibly a shortage of college interns.  We will probably never really know what happened.  If you don't like how something is written, you don't like it.  I don't (and shouldn't) despise those that worked on it, but again.....don't have to like what they produced.  Which I don't.....in case that was misunderstood. hehePosted Image

Sable, I hope you stick around us (even with our word-vomit moments.....I save mine.  They come in pretty colors.Posted Image)
crazies.  Sane voices are hard to come by on the BSN, and add much to the way of conversation.  So good on you for braving this merri-go-round.Posted ImagePosted Image

@myth - Aww hun.  Let me get you a vodka for your woes, and a ice pack for your knee.  *smooch!*

@Emerald - You are correct about who wrote Samara and Liara.Posted Image

Legandary Reporter Emily Wong: "So you just killed Nassana Dantius.....What are you going to do now?"

I think the people on charge of Thane & Jacob maybe didn't intend to be racist or sexist, but in the end they did by their choices. It really doesn't matter if they were aware of this since the beginning or it was a result of the cut content, because in the end they released a hurtful and disrespectful game for the female fanbase, and those actions can't be allowed on a big videogame corporation.

Also, we have send many projects, did a campaign, and tried to tell them all these things since March. They never answered, 6 months and they have not told us if they are going to do something to fix it. Maybe they are going to make a DLC for saving Thane, or maybe they want us to keep our hopes, and keep buying other DLCs like Leviathan. And honestly, they treated some of our projects like s**t. We got a tweet, "oh, thank you, we'll pass it to the writers" on best cases, and after that, nothing. We don't know if they actually read it, or they throw our efforts to the nearest bin.

The truth is, I'm not going to stop fighting, and participating in projects. But I don't think they deserve it. When a lot of fans join together on a project, and make wonderful pictures, draws, letters... I join them because the fans deserve being heard, not because BiowarEA deserves it. They are the people who destroyed the series for us, who never cared enough about our favourite characters to gave them a proper treatment, and we are working hard for sending them gifts xD. It may seem stupid, but it's the only way for them to listen.

Maybe someday we could do a big appreciation project, with a big "Thank you", and send it to Chris L'Etoile. He can't do nothing about Thane, and we gain nothing doing it, but he truly deserves it.

Well said Serenade. Very well said, and I agree. Whether it was intentional or not, it did happen and it's not acceptable.

And if I knew where to find Chris L., never to be confused with chris h., I would be sending him thank you letters.

Oh, and in case anyone has an doubts, I don't plan on stopping my fighting either.

Wow...my thoughts exactly! Well said! Posted Image
Like you said maybe it wasn't their intentions to do what they did...but they did it anyway, and with how alot of us have done projects ,sent them drawings and such...we haven't gotten one word from them to at least tell us if they are gonna fix it ,if we are gonna get an option to save Thane! Instead we are being ignored...and I hate that!
