I suppose that's a fair point, LT. Still, "I want you, Thane," is a little too explicit for my tastes.

I agree. I'm really glad that this isn't even close to what she actually says. I was a bit nervous about choosing it . Then I remembered that sometimes what Shepard says is sometimes different from what the wheel says. I was just hoping that was the case. I really didn't want to hear her say anything like that.

Hello Thane fans....Someone just challenged me on another thread in regards to 'Ruthlessness'...I have decided to examine it further in regards to the NPC's involved....So question for you: "Why in your perceptions is Thane not ruthless?....Examples included please?"

Welcome Earth-Clan !
An answer to your question : It's his character..his role. He was made to be a sweet and kind person.. he does have his angry moments, but those are for his own personal reasons. Like in his Loyalty mission with Mouse. I accidently did the renegade interupt and my Shepard got all up in Mouse's space and stuff and also did Thane..he did that also with Shepard so he could go find his son.. to make up with him and get Kolyat off the path of evil. I suppose right there is an example. Its just the type of person he is. And we all love it and accept it.. for those who don't well.. they need to go see a doctor. :P. I don't know if this answers your question, and some what of the example(s) you asked for .

Through his actions when it comes to innocent people. Remember, he took the time out to save many of those salarian workers in that tower that Nassana was trying to kill for no damn reason. Someone ruthless would have ignored the salarians and just focused on their target.

I think the only time he was ruthless was when he took revenge on those batarians that killed his wife.

I don't see Thane as ruthless. As it has already been said, he did try to save as many innocent salarian workers as he could in the tower. I think Thane also said something about not being fast enough and thus innocents suffered.

Also, it seems drell, or at least Thane, see their bodys and soul differently than humans. So, his body has been a weapon, a tool. He didn't kill because he enjoyed killing, it was what Thane's body was made for. Only time I would call Thane ruthless is when he killed those batarians for killing his wife. Thane shaid he killed them slowly and he surely doesn't seem happy about the decision he made back then. I feel it kind of haunts him. It was the first time Thane killed when he was himself, not just a trained body (/weapon).

Does any of this even make sense? :D I got excited.

Dear BioWare!

Im thinking.I can imagine two fates for Thane.
Love Interest:He lives, someone finds a cure for him
                     No Romance:he dies in peace

PLS put these things into ME3;)

No. An extremely strong no.

Sorry, there are fans who love Thane but don't romance him. It's unfair to those fans, particularly the ones who enjoy playing male Shepard.

I am a Thane fan..but I kinda disagree on the No Romance. There are people out there who love Thane a lot but just .. don't romance him. I would think that would be a cruel thing to happen to Thane, just because you don't romance him, he dies.. even though it would be peacefully. I'm sure you disagree with this but think of it from Thane's point of view..dying because some didn't romance him? Tough way to die, even though it would be in peace. Even if you don't romance him,  he has Kolyat. Thane would have time to talk with him and get to know Kolyat.. since he hasn't spoken to him in 10 years, beside on Thane's loyalty mission.

I don't know how many times it's been suggested that only a romanced Thane survives/may survive. I mean I can see why some people might think that way, but for all intents and purposes, it's just not plausible.

Hello everybody....just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to answer my 'Ruthless' question...As you can see by my banner, I LOVE Thane too and I do not see him as ruthless myself, he is a deeply feeling, deeply spiritual soul...I love his depth and that deep well nature...

Wow, I get preoccupied for a few days and all this happens.

Haha, those are awesome, hanar!  I love the Me Gusta fish.  They saw everything.
I bet the space hamster is wearing the exact same expression.  Putting the Grunt fish off to the side was a nice easter egg too.

@Golden Owl
Thane's only ruthless if provoked.  I think Shepard's lucky to have a friend, or romance, like that.:)

Well, I think that Thane is ruthless to his enemies and his contracts. There is a reason he is the most skilled assassin in the galaxy, and that is due to fulfilling his contracts without hesitation, and showing ruthlessness.

And also there is the ruthlessness he shows in pursuing the batarians responsible for Irikah's death, it may have been justified, but it was ruthless. I think that is more a result of his strong love for Irikah.

Of course, there is the other side to Thane as well, where he saves the Salarian workers, directs his son onto a different path than his own, and pursues the Collectors free of charge because they are abducting human colonists.

There are many facets to Thane, and as Mordin says, he is a very complex individual.

Wow. And I thought those fish only wore that expression because Thane...well....uhm...sort of resembles a fish.
Still funny.
Though my Shepard is with Garrus, I will say that Thane was a hard one to walk away from. He's soulful, he's honorable, masculine yet graceful in mannerisms and combat. When romanced, he's attentive and loving. In short, he makes females feel exactly as a married man knows how females want to be treated.
It's just that I cannot do it when he's so recently reconciled with Kolyat. It felt like a bad time to partition his attention when Kolyat needs as much time from him as possible to make up for what they lost. Likely I'm wrong and that Thane does have enough time to spend with both Shepard AND Kolyat. But when he says things like, "Time is short for me, but whatever I have is yours, siha.", I always feel like Shepard's stealing away Thane's time and affection.
What do you Thane fans say?

That's one of Thane's conflicts that I would like to see developed more in ME3.  It's possible that he's going to be helping Shepard with the Reapers if he's not with Kolyat.  I'm not sure where Shepard stands with Kolyat, but again I think it would be a good place for development and to give Kolyat some more screen time.  It could lead to some really touching moments for Thane's romance as well.

I hope Thane gets more time so he can explore the possibilities of his re-established relationships.^_^

@hanar05
Excellent follow up.  Funny as always.  Mordin warned Shepard what would happen.

I was actually  thinking about this. I figured, Shepard could be the force that encorages him to spend time with his son, romance or not. In my Shepard's case, with Rylie, she doesn't have any family and sees the precious value of Thane and Kolyat's relationship. She wants to help them mend. Kolyat is more important to Thane than Shepard will ever be. She can not replace that, but she can help them. Kolyat seems like the stubborn sort and Thane isn't that great of a father, I just see an opprotunity for Shepard to help, again romance or not. Shepard already helped once, why stop there unless Shepard dislikes Thane?

In the case of romance, I was thinking if the option is available or if they just don't say anything along the lines of what they discuss before Shepard is arrested, Rylie would tell him to go spend time with his son. Not waste it waiting to be allowed in for visitation time or to see her on trial.

Don't think about it as partitioning Thane's affections; he's the one who comes out and says that he has feeling for Shepard. (One of the many, many things I love about his romance).

It's like what he says right before his loyalty mission, "I don't need your help. I want it." He doesn't need Shepard. But he wants her. So he made his feelings known. Unlike a few of the other romances, Shepard didn't have to drag Thane kicking and screaming into the relationship. Shepard isn't replacing Irikah, Shepard's relationship with Thane isn't taking away from Thane's with Kolyat. It's not a contest.
