Wow. And I thought those fish only wore that expression because Thane...well....uhm...sort of resembles a fish.
Still funny.
Though my Shepard is with Garrus, I will say that Thane was a hard one to walk away from. He's soulful, he's honorable, masculine yet graceful in mannerisms and combat. When romanced, he's attentive and loving. In short, he makes females feel exactly as a married man knows how females want to be treated.
It's just that I cannot do it when he's so recently reconciled with Kolyat. It felt like a bad time to partition his attention when Kolyat needs as much time from him as possible to make up for what they lost. Likely I'm wrong and that Thane does have enough time to spend with both Shepard AND Kolyat. But when he says things like, "Time is short for me, but whatever I have is yours, siha.", I always feel like Shepard's stealing away Thane's time and affection.
What do you Thane fans say?

I wouldn't look at it as "stealing" the time away from Kolyat. Yes, it has been 10 years since they talked, but does that not mean Thane can't spend time with Shepard, and time with Kolyat? He has up to 12 months, 12 months can't make up 10 years, but Thane is/will  try(ing) to make up the time for Kolyat. Shepard on the other hand,  I don't believe Macie ( my Shepard) is taking up his time. I think of it this way , Macie goes out on .. 2-3 missions, giving Thane some space and time incase he would like to talk to Kolyat, if not when I'm done with those few missions I go back, and to make up for the few days, we share a evening , relaxing in my cabin.
If Thane wanted time to talk to Kolyat, I'm sure Thane would tell you. " Do you need something?" " Have a few minutes to talk?" " Could we talk later Siha? I'll be talking with Kolyat soon. Then my time is for yours to take." " Take your time Thane." ( End of disscussion).
Even though that is my point of view, and how I think of it, I am sure like  I said, He would tell you if he wanted to spend time with Kolyat. He can make time for both :D

I don't feel like Shepard is taking time away from Kolyat. I believe he and Thane are still in contact. When you go see him he says he is recording a message for him, so he is trying. I also don't think Kolyat is ready to have Thane around all the time. I like to think that they have extra time Thane takes that oportunity to go see his son. Also Shepard is a busy woman. As much time as she would probably like to spend with him she can't always do that, so there are times when Thane isn't with her. I like to believe that Thane has enough time for both of them, and that the game just doesn't show it.

Also Shepard could never steal away Thanes affection for Kolyat , and none of my Shepards would want to.

I've never really seen it that way, mostly because Kolyat is not a child and I think he needs some space.  Having Thane  around all the time would probably cause more friction than healing, while regular contact via mail and vids would give them both space to get used to their being in contact again.  By being on the Normandy Thane is fighting to save Kolyat and the whole galaxy rather than spending time with Shepard.  Finding love with Shepard is an unexpected perk :D.

Thane's been in mourning for ten years, reconnecting with Kolyat gives him a reason to keep living, having a romantic relationship adds another dimension to his new lease of life, one that allows him a new future (if only he can find a cure).

Love the new comic hanar. Especially the look on Thanes face in the first panel.

I also felt bad for taking Thane away from Kolyat at first. But then I realised that if Shepard didn't recruit Thane for the Collector Mission, then he may have well died killing Nassana Dantius.

As for romance, Thane does have Kolyat, but it is a strained relationship, one that involves a lot of effort and pain. Whereas Thane's relationship with Shepard involves love flowing in both directions. (Not to say that Kolyat doesn't love his father, just to say he doesn't express it currently.)

Shepard offers him happiness before Keprel's syndrome takes his life. She also offers him hope in the way of atoning for his ways, and allows his last few months to be ones of joy.

Of course, we know that Thane won't necessarily die as canon in ME3, right? ;)

Thane better not die a canon death in ME3. That will just ruin things for me.

Lowered replay value as well.

I wanted to say that's a great point.  I'm really hoping to see the further development of both relationships in ME3.

It will definitely lower the replay value for me. I will still buy the game, but I won't play it as much as I played ME1 and 2.

That's one ot the things I'm looking forward to. Further development in the relationships. Hopefully more conversations, and I would like to see Thane and Kolyat move closer to some kind of reconciliation.

If you ask me any character who receives an unavoidable death will lower the replay value of ME3.  It makes is kind of anti-climatic if you're doing multiple playthroughs, but that's another topic.

More on topic.  I feel these were relevant to current conversations.  Spoilers for Thane's loyalty mission, btw.  They feature renegade dialogue if anyone's curious.

If I may be an animation buff for a second.  I liked how Kolyat hesitates with a surprised look when Shepard calls his name.  Good way to start the scene and the "oh crap" moment Kolyat was probably having.  Okay, done.

Any thoughts on the renegade actions or reactions?

I have never been able to do renegade myself. Not complete renegade. I'm always paragon with a little renegade in there.

I usually have a hard time being mean to mouse. Shepard goes beyond mean when using renegade options on Mouse. That poor kid has had enough of a hard life.

Shepard killing Talid didn't really bother me. I never choose it myself, but it wasn't shocking. It did seem to scare Kolyat. I noticed Thane has no reaction to you punching or shooting his son, but if you kill Talid it seems to bother him a little.

I could understand Shepard's impatience with Mouse in the renegade option, but a boot to the face seemed a bit much.  Some of the dialogue you get out of it though...wow.  My heart clenched to hear that Thane didn't carry anything to remind him of his son.:crying:

Kolyat's reaction proved he's not a killer.  Bailey didn't say anything but to both Thane and Kolyat killing Talid without flinching seemed a bit much, especially since he was the hostage.  I have no words for Thane not saying anthing when Shepard punches him.  I guess he saw it as necessary to keep Kolyat from shooting Talid.

I was a little confused about what Kolyat said after Shepard kills Talid.  When he was talking about how he "read your files" was he referring to Shepard and then Thane or was he referring to Thane both times?

Kolyat is most definitely not a killer. I was always surprised when I would read that some people thought he would be a good replacement for Thane.

I like to think that Thane thought kolyat needed that punch too. He needed someone to knock some sense into him. Either that or the Bioware just didn't feel like putting in a reaction from Thane.

I always thought he was referring to Thane. Thane said that Kolyat somehow acquired what he left for him early. I'm assuming that whatever was left for him was everthing about Thanes life.

Yeah, Thane sees the necessity in stopping Kolyat and I think he realises that it requires force to stop him. Besides, Kolyat will get better XD I bet Thane approves of Shepard's actions if you take the paragon options.

Okeydokes.

"...Our second quest includes a surprise reveal. We are tasked with finding a group of Hanar scientists that are being held captive on the crime-ridden planet Invictus. The Normandy lands in a local dock where an unexpected, but welcome, Drell assassin greets us. Thane Krios, the companion from Mass Effect 2 is going to be accompanying you on this mission. Thane is suffering from a disease known as 'Kepral's Syndrome,' and the scientists in question are working on a cure for this very sickness... "While Thane is only a temporary companion, you can rest assured that you will feel content with his inclusion."

Enough for the mods to come raining down on it when it was posted, crying NO SPOILERS AND NO MAG SCANS.

So it's pretty legit.

So Thane is just there for one mission and then we don't see him again. I'm not sure what to think about that. Thanks for posting it.
