It's great that they acknowledge the problem, but are they going to do anything to fix it. Will we still get LI's that get better treatment than others. I am curious to see how they give every LI equal attention with some only being with you for a very short length of time. Waiting is pretty much all we can do I guess.

The only one who might benefit from that would probably be Liara.
I know... and I really can't stand her. I enjoyed LoTSB, Liara being in it was the down side.

This is a good reason. Okay I'm convinced, a cure could make a good story. Also the fact that many Thane fans would like it is a good reason to include it. I would like it even more if it's involved in big choices and if we have to work hard for it.Big stupid jellyfish wrote...
@Cheez: I know what you mean and, being a Thanemancer, I understand the appeal of him dying gloriously in combat... Or even the appeal of him fading away because of the Kerpal's. I, however, cannot help but refer to the thread you've made a day ago: let my Shepard and me save him and have him by our side.

It seems Shepard meets up with Thane on a planet to complete a mission. The name of the planet is "Invictus." There is a poem by William Ernest Henley called Invictus:
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
Just as in Thane's Loyatly Mission named Cat's in the Cradle, does the name of the planet and subsequent relationshop to Henley's poem harken a glimpse at what is happening with Thane on Invictus?
Is Thane a prisoner?
Does this relate to Keprals?
Is Thane going to die on Invictus?
I love how the writers use references in Thane's character. Looking back you can see all the connections the reference has to his story and what has happened in his life. Amazing.

Sooo... we have news, huh? I'm pleased with what I'm hearing. Sure, that "Temporary" word is scary, but they say we'll be satisfied with his inclusion.
...and come on, Kahje was confirmed a while back. Why would we be going there...?

Wow, Invictus. That brings back memories. I analyzed that poem in high school. One of my favorites.

IKR? I wonder what the name of the mission will be? Its like a puzzle or a mystery surrounding the fate of Thane. Its fun and intriguing.

Home to dextro-amino-acid-based life, Invictus has temperate zones that were settled by a turian population that initially fell prey to a bewildering number of diseases. Two decades later after its first colony was founded the population had been reduced by half due to fatalities and a large colonist exodus. But when the Primarchs considered ceding the planet to robo-mining interests, the turian statesman Shastina Emperus ambitiously declared that she would start her own colony and double its population within five years. This effort succeeded, largely due to the colonies' location in deserts with a minimal number of pest species. The image of Shastina's triumph in the frontier made for good political theater, and the turian population poured in. The planet's tropical belt still remains largely unexplored as its aggressive organic life still wreaks havoc on turian biology. A "house in an Invictus jungle" is a modern turian phrase for an idea that seems like a good idea but only to the one who came up with it. Invictus's atmosphere is primarily nitrogen and oxygen, and its surface crust varies but has high concentrations of alumina and silver. Because it can support life easily, criminals from throughout the Terminus Systems hide out on Invictus. Its official population is estimated to be half the number of sapients that are actually on the planet.

I was playing ME2 and flying around in the Minos Wasteland a few moments ago while discovering this new Thane information. Checking Invictus and then reading that we go there in ME3... let me tell you, it's an eerie, awesome feeling.

I thought he stopped having a death wish....
Deconstructing Thane and looking at his suicide related behavior one would identify the following aspects as his apparent “death wish.” Suicide is a purposeful behavior with the intention of killing the self. There can be objective and subjected evidence supporting the intent.
Thane exhibited the following warning signs for suicide: Looking for ways to kill himself and seeking access to the means. Both warning signs were exhibited during his recruitment mission as he went to the Dantius Towers with the intention to die.
Additional warning signs can include: Hopelessness, engaging in risky activities, withdrawing from family, and having no purpose in life.
Thane exhibits many chronic risk factors that increase his risk for suicide such as previous attempts, by his own reports he takes risky missions to end his life, Hopelessness related to his terminal illness, unmarried male living alone.
What keeps him alive? Protective factors include positive social support through the crew of the Normandy, spirituality, a sense of responsibility not just to his son but the galaxy, to make the galaxy a better place. Thane has excellent problem solving capabilities but he was utilizing these same capabilities as a means to his own death thus cannot be counted as a protective factor. Thane does have a relationship with Shepard. Both as a male companion and romance interest to the female Shepard. This can be both a protective and risk factor for suicide depending on the quality of the relationship.
Overall, Thane has one risk factor that puts him at high risk for suicide and that is his terminal illness of Kepral’s Syndrome. This one aspect can be decreased by increasing his protective factors, restricting his means of suicide and by providing additional support. Unfortunately due to the nature of his profession and use as a team member restriction of the means will not be achievable. Thus increased amounts of healthy and appropriate support in the dying process will further aid him in his end of life transition.
What the outcome and how this will be achieved is for the third installment to tell us.

I personally held the assumption that, by the end of developing his relationship with FemShep in ME2 (that is to say, towards the romance scene), he pretty much changed his entire outlook on life and no longer had a death wish. Why? Because he no longer has any reason to HAVE a death wish, no matter how small. The romance scene itself does a good job of setting this in stone.
So now, you can see why I can't help but wonder why he suddenly happens to be on a crime-ridden planet come ME3. I am, of course, looking at this from the romanced-Thane perspective. You can bet the magazine is talking about a non-romanced Thane. However, I still am sure that Thane will be on Invictus whether romanced or not. It's just a matter of WHY he is there to begin with. I doubt it's the same as his reason from ME2 for infiltrating the Dantius Towers. From what little I can make out at this point, it most certainly has to do with rescuing the hanar scientists.

I won't be surprised if he aims to solve the KS issue before he dies. He might not be looking for the cure for himself, but for his species.jtav wrote...
Yeah, he's looking for a cure. Whether or not it's too late for him, he would be saving his species. Now that's putting good into the world.

That's a stellar point all-around. I'd love to see that.
