While i´m not particularily a Thane-fan, i feel that he should have at least a LotSB-style mission.
Thane is a great and unique character, like Samara and the two have a lot in common, so both should have their LotSB. :D

Bioware have done many great things with Thane's character. They have invested a lot of time into it, and have recognised the support he has. Hell they even have Hanar's Cure Thane Collaboration hung up in their office.

Also, the whole 'temporary squadmate' thing is getting thrown around with all the ME2 squaddies. Casey Hudson has said that nothing is permanent, and due to all the variables, no was is a permanent squadmate.

It doesn't necessarily mean we won't see much of them though, Bioware have always allowed romances to develop throughout their games, and Casey has said himself that ME2 romances will be able to be continued in ME3.

Just think, Thane may be around for just the one mission, but it could be done very well, and from what we know, it looks like he may play a major role in helping to destroy the reapers. After that, I imagine that he will stay with his Siha (or Shepard) on the Normandy. Either awaiting her after her missions in her quarters, or using his skills to help the mission in other ways.

I think it is important not to accuse Bioware of anything yet, we don't have enough information. Also, I think it is important to hope for the best. But still be aware of the worst.

Stay optimistic :)

If that's the case, I demand a massive orgy after the missions is done.

Instead of 'The Pearl' in Denerim. Omega has 'The Azure.' A place to drown your sorrows if the ME3 romances don't quite work out as you like. Image IPB

I honestly would like to. Nothing in the world would make me happier than the idea that everything is going to be okay in the end. I don't dispute that my reaction is dramatic, but considering the consquences that have been flung in the air I don't believe it was unjustified. The evidence points to LotSB, which had me shaking in my boots in the beginning. We get one mission with Thane, supposdly early in game, and he's either dead or out of commision in recovery for the remainder of the game. One is certainly more appealing than the other - but that dosen't make the idea that you only get a few missions in the game with him any easier to swallow.

had the situation been whereas all characters  from ME2 get LotsB apperances in ME3, I would be okay with that. Its equality across the board. But we don't have evidence of that, we have evidence that "a small party, much smaller than the suicide mission" will be "permante" i.e. Not leaving your party unless player initated storyline removes them, (Garrus) and "temporary" i.e. only allotted in your party for respective mission important to the game. (ex. Mordin Solus Krogan Princess Genophage cure)

There is a difference here. A big one.  Player popularity, and limited resources, and the fact that you can't please everyone has something to do with it - I think to say otherwise and ignore everything that has been thrown our way is the equivalent sticking my fingers in my ears and throwing my head in the dirt, singing "A-LA-LA-LA-LA" all the while.

I will be patient Tasha, I will be civil - but I can't just overlook what I've witinessed. Especially considering the fact that Thane is on a wet planet, and non loyal / romanced Thane is just looking for a hill to die on.

I would have no problem with every character getting a LotSB type mission either, but we know that isn't going to happen. Some characters are going to get more than others. A lot more, and Thane so far is the only character who doesn't seem to be getting much. I'm trying hard to be optimistic, but I really don't see anything great about the news we have been given so far.

Well, we "know" that Thane's hanging out with the right people to cure him... We've already passed the hurdle of "Will they kill him before ME3" and now we've just passed, "They'll probably put him on his deathbed, which is why he won't be with us."

I just don't think we have enough information to rage about. We already knew that the definitions of permanent squadmate had changed for this game, and we also knew that Shepard would be separated from them when the game starts, so it seems that everyone, LI or not is going to be off doing something... hopefully to help with the war effort.

The only question this information has given me, is how this Thane quest ties back to the whole Reapers eating the universe thing. Didn't someone say that side missions would have a link back to the main one?

The new for Thane is grim indeed. Cruel even. I don't oppose people who are on the side of optimism though, goodness knows there is so much darkness in this thread now with this reveal that keeping hope alive for the necessary for the sake of sanity - but I refuse to just scream and say it isn't true. I refuse to just ignore it all until I buy the game full price and find out that Thane's good and gone 10 hours in. No. I'm not feeding the monster.

Of course, bioware is going to deny it all and encourage me to pick up Me3 just to be sure, but I learned my lesson with Da2 that's it better to wait. I will be youtubing and wiking this game into oblivion and if I find out that it's true: that we only get little side mentions of Thane throughout the game, with only snippets of dialouge to mention his romance before his "conclusion" you better believe it's sitting on the shelf until it $29.99 - $19.99.

I should not feel like I am being punished for not romancing Garrus, Liara, or Tali.

I fear you are stretching it, dears. There is no way that magazine could know everything about Thane's role in ME3. Just not possible. It may not be the best news but it was never meant to be taken very seriously. Is it accurate? Probably. Is it everything? Most assuredly not.

You don't give a full-fledged love interest a one-hour mission as a temporary companion and then never show him again. Not in the final part of a trilogy.

Well, one hour plus romance scene plus showing up for the last battle is probably realistic. But this is neither the second mission (that seems to be Mars) nor a death sentence. Far more likely he'll leave to get treatment. And yes, some LIs will get more non-romance content than others. Hardly shocking.

I agree, something like this is what I expected all along. One mission with him and then perhaps the option to have him stay on the Normandy, or come along to minor, appropriate missions.

We don't have enough information yet to raise our pitchforks. They could do the mission really well, and I don't think the information we have received affects whether or not he could die.

I think it would be best not to have our expectations of Thane in ME3 too high, but also to wait for more evidence before we begin campaigning to tear down Bioware offices :P

Even then, I would buy ME3 at full price. I love a lot of the other characters, the gameplay, the story, the lore and the entire universe of the Mass Effect series.

Tasha I have one question for you and please do get offended.

In your portrait, is that a crouching Garrus with a blue mohawk or what? Everytime I see it I have to squint to make out exactly what it is....

You should increase the font size, bold it, make it flash pretty colors, and repost this on every page at least six times.

Fiery has the right idea here. Do you all recall the "Thane's in, and so is Zaeed, knocking about the galaxy and doing something appropriate to their character" thing that was mentioned a while back? There was an outcry of "Nooo! Thane's a cameo! BOOOO!" Sure, there's more concrete information to go on here, but it's still pretty much the same situation.

We don't know everything. THEY (the magazine) don't know everything. Devs have said all the major secrets will remain secrets until release.

Relax, have a drink. Slam a stack of Pringles, or whatever.

The full article will be here on the 25th anyway so it doesn't really hurt to wait a little and read the whole thing rather than a leaked bit.

Hm, I just realized the last gaming magazine I bought was in 2008. ;)
