I just liked that the character was unapologetically in love with his wife. And wasn't sheepish or embarassed to state it to a (relative) stranger.

*wince* just found this on-line:

I really hope if you romanced Thane you'll get an emotional conclusion. The letter you get in Shadow Broker makes me have high hopes for his romance in ME3.

@Fidget

It does seem to me like they are really playing things up by including that letter in LotSB. It was a really nice surprise when I was playing through with Holly.

It may or may not have made me cry like a baby, however.  I expect more emotional and wonderful dialogue.  <3

From the letter and Thane saying he had less than a year to live and with ME3 being set 6 to 12 months after the SM, makes me think he will die in ME3.

He a very intereting character and would like to see more, but I'm not holding my breathe that he makes it through the game.  Emtional scene would be great.  I hope we have plenty of them come March.  Not just with Thane, but with every LI.

I've been thinking a lot about Mr. Weekes' wonderful post about CF, and it makes me sad. Not just because it's a heartbreaking story and a terrible illness, but because so many people look at someone, see that they're sick, and then define them by their illness.

I know friends of mine who do this with Thane, and are insistent that he not be cured in ME3. Not because it's a deus ex machina, not because it would be more emotional without one, but because he's sick. And if he was to be treated...well what would be the point of his character?

Suffering from any serious disease changes you. It changes how you think, how you look at life, how you act. But you're still you. You may look at the glass half-full, instead of half-empty. You may be filled with sorrow and feel the need to atone. But if you recover, if you go into remission, if you just plain old feel better, it doesn't mean you're now an empty vessel. You may have been changed, but you can still laugh, still love, still feel. Your 'point' or 'meaning' hasn't suddenly vanished. It's just another experience in life--it can be a horrible one, but it doesn't erase who you were and what you can become.

Thane may be a fictional character, an alien to boot, but he's human all the same. A human created him, gave him a personality that we can relate and empathize with. If you deem his disease his 'defining factor', what does that mean about a stance on real people who actually suffer?

Not supporting a cure for Thane is one thing. Deeming him nothing more than a bag of germs is another.

...and now someone needs to post some awesome fanart. Or make a joke. I think I just brought the mood down a little :pinched:

That is adorable, and Thane should have one- being Shepard's 'arm' and all. :bandit:

Would be cool if other LI had some version, actually. XD

 Dat rifle [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/heart.png[/smilie]

I admit I was slightly disappointed that Thane was a sniper, as going into the game I had only seen that one Blur trailer with pistols and punches. But once I had him on my squad, I changed my tune quite fast.

I really hope that Thane will be a permanent squad member in ME3! I only used Thane and Garrus in ME2 as my squad, pretty much all the time ( Garrus and Jack until I recruited Thane, and I had to use other characters when doing their loyalty missions, but the rest of the time it was just these two) and it seemed to work perfectly.
I hadn't thought that an assassin would be such an amazing squad member, but he was. One time I was overrun and surrounded by 3-4 husks and I started thinking "oh crap I'm going to die" and then I saw them get blasted to pieces by Warp. If my Shepard could talk, she would say something along the lines of "Have I ever told you how amazing you are and how much I love you yet?" right then and there. (Possibly with a "marry me" as an afterthought) XD
That aside, I also hope there will be the option of a happy conclusion in his story. Some say that having Thane cured makes him a lesser character; I think that is a rather cruel thing to say (for example, if a friend, or a partner in real life, had cancer, and they got cured, would that make them less of a friend or a partner? I don't understand how some people think.. :/).
He is a very strong character, and sensitive at the same time, and I would like to see him prevail. Then again, I am a fangirl. :3

I miss taking pictures of Thane. But I can't bring myself to play ME anymore. Not until I know his role in me3. It sucks. I wish they would say something.

To liven things up a bit in here:

What do you think Thane will be up to in ME3? From what I've seen, we'll most likely be 'finding' all of our old friends again. Would he be on the Citadel with Kolyat? Or perhaps trailing Cerberus operatives in order to protect Shepard?

How do you imagine the scenario playing out in your head? Discuss. ;)

I always liked Thane as a character but in my first few playthroughs he did nothing but sit on the Normandy, on account of the sigma I attached to him because his main weapon was a sniper rifle and also I seemed to forget that Miranda isn't the only one with warp. When I finally got around to using him it wasn't long before I didn't go anywhere without him, and I always felt that nobody dominate's Scions quite like Thane.

For a while now I've had this image of Thane in the Normandy's mess eating a bowl of cereal, with a nearby cereal box labeled "Scions", with the underlying message being that "Thane eats Scions for breakfast" or "if you want to be a galactic hero, eat Scions, its what Thane Krios does!"

I'd say that a loyal Thane is spending with Kolyat (or trying to, anyway) on the Citadel, tuning into the news every once in a while to see if there's information on Shepard's trial. Once word of the Reaper invasion spreads, he stays calm and simply waits. Shepard has to see the Council anyway--the Citadel would be the first stop. Of course, I think this would apply to all LIs; once word of the invasion hits, head to the Citadel and meet Shepard there.

A disloyal Thane is a different story. Once which I'd rather not visit, since I would suspect a very unhappy ending.

As for Thane cereal, the real question is what priiize we'll be getting at the bottom of the box!

@CheeseEnchilada having worked in a hospice and palliative care, I respectfully disagree.

It would be too easy to generalize what you said, "...well what would be the point of his character?" to a person who is suffering from a terminal illness and say, your fight, your life, your struggle, means nothing because then what is the point of you? That's too easy and too cold hearted to say to any living being suffering from a terminal illness.

And yes, Thane is a fictional character but when a character is written, is it not a reflection of what we are as humanity? Doesn't Thane encompass those same similiarities that we as human share? It is also too easy to say, he's a fictional character. It's difficult to say, he was created to reflect a humans struggle.

His sickness, his death, serves only to heighten Thanes humanity. Because, he is alive, until the moment of his death. Until the moment he breathes his last, he is alive. That's what I told my patients and what I told their families.

Nothing is certain. We only know death comes but none of us know the date and time. Only we will all face death one day. It's how you face it that is important.

I think Thane reflects that struggle people face when seeing someone suffer from a terminal illness. It's painful and hard to admit that this character is going to die and not someday but soon. And death scares people and its a taboo our society doesn't want to talk about. But in the end, is life, is what needs to be focused on, not his illness. His life is worth more than is death, anyone persons life is more than their death. Doesn't matter if they are fictional or real. Our humanity shouldn't make such distinctions, nor should our compassion or our empathy.

CE, you bring up a good point in regards to failing Thane's loyalty mission. It makes me wonder what ME3 will be like for a disloyal Thane. It was already horrible in ME2.
