What I believe happened is that the reality of the situation is that there are limited resources, time, and availability to launch this game.

Bioware EA overlords originally wanted to make it for the Christmas rush but they wanted to implement some new aspects to the game and make it better and I suppose the trouble shooting for the game took longer than than anticipated and they wanted to get it right. The confirmation of co-op/multiplayer is practically confirmation for this. They had other projects that they wanted to launch in ME3 to make it more accessible and have a larger audience than the previous ME and ...adjustments.... needed to be made to accomplish that.

The truth is that we're a large fanbase, but we are mere shadows in the sunset of the Garrus / Tali / Miranda fanbase. They already said that conversations were going to be more cinematic and the team is going to be smaller to focus on story, so yeah - they are going to hype up already popular characters and toss the smaller fanbase on the landmines or give us LoTsB missions with our previous LIs, perhaps with different dialogues to grant us closure, and that's that.

They don't hate us, but if this is a business and they need to sell - they will accept that they can;t please everyone and in this case they are accepting that they can't please us - not when clan vakarian alone outnumbers us 9999999999 to 1.

lols aside. If I run into him on the docks. Get a "Kaiden in ME2" apperance hug, followed by a quick shag under a bush before he promply and permantly exits the game, I will eat the ME3 discs and barf kittens. Seriously.

Isn't that how it always goes. There is nothing we can really do about, but just except it. I'm not happy about it, but at least I know now so that I can get use to it.

We better get something better than that.

May I remind you that the Jack, Jacob, and Miranda fanbases also have no idea how they'll be treated? And I think Thane seems to be getting a pretty good deal. Odds are, he'll be instrumental in saving the drell. In ME2, he was just sort of there from a story perspective.

I want to make sure I'm understanding correctly. I have reason to believe my favorite LI is going to be either dead, dying moreso than he already is, and I may very well get a single mission with hm and never see him again -- and I should feel....grateful? Happy?

How is this better than Blind optimism?

Umm....if I walk into a Garrus/ Turian thread right now and released a twitter quote of casey saying that garrus is going to dump femshep because he couldn't stand the trama of interspecies relationships - betray her, or otherwise suffer any emotional or physical harm on the darkest part of his fringe - the fan rage would be enough to call the SWAT team and everyone would be cool with that.

But I'm supposed to hear bad news about my favorite squaddie and just be okay with it? Please elaborate

Theory: there's more Thane content.

Think about it: we were told that our ME1 and ME2 LIs would meet each other, and there would be "consequences." Unless Kaidan/Liara are mandatory squadmembers on Invictus, that's not happening. At least not in my game. I'm never going to use either of them unless they're mandatory.

If Thane DOES turn out to be a one-mission squadmate, it'll bum me out a bit, especially if it's for a silly reason, but I can take it. I highly doubt we won't see him after the Invictus mission if he survives. Bioware isn't like that.

Horizon didn't exist.

You have absolute no reason to believe Thane will die. He's in fighting shape on this mission, not in a hospital bed. He's doing something very important to his species. Odds are he will be leaving to get that treatment. And there are eight LIs in this franchise so far. There's a smaller squad. Some were always going to get smaller roles. I romanced Thane, several times, but it was alway with the knowledge of his health problems and the real possibility he was on his deathbed and that would limit my interaction with him. He is not on his death bed, and he isn't just some random but cool alien anymore.

Actually, I have reason to believe that Thane has one of the larger fanbases of the ME2-only characters.
He is certainly one of the more liked characters of the series.

A single mission is better than nothing, which is what the Miranda, Jack and Jacob fans have got so far.

Umm, just because he is capable of fighting on a fighting missions dosen't mean that he can't / won't reach the end of his life by the end of the mission. Many people who love than but liked the idea of him "going out in flames' would get thier wish in this aspect, because, while doing something constructive for his species and giving one final goodbye to his fans, he bites the bullet - either literally, due to his condition, or because we've done something that would render him out of commision and in recovery for the remainder of the game.

The possibilites that you mentioned are just as valid as mine. You have no extra evidence to support the odds that he is getting cured just because he's hanging out with some hanar - promising, but no more or less valid than my belief that we get one mission and that's a wrap. I think I'm the one not being clear here - I'm not angry that I could lose him in the game, I am angry because of the obvious bias of confirming the two most popular characters as "permante" (as permante as ME3 can be) as evidence that I might lose my favorite squaddie. that sucks okay? Nobody is saying you can't be optimistic, but don't imply that I should be grateful I'm seeing him at all and suck up the fact that I'll never see my favorite squaddie again.

Try that crap with Talimancers and Clan Vakarians and see what happens.

I have never seen a confirmation from BioWare that Garrus and Tali are permanent squaddies that will survive the entire length of the game.

Neither has there been any confirmation that we will never see Thane again.

My last sentence didn't elborate enough on what I meant, so I can see your argument I am at vault for not explaining myself properly.

I know what I said wa:s "try that crap with Talimancers and clan vakarian and see what happens,"

but what I meant was:

"try to argue with the largest fanbase any evidence that states that their characters will not be included,  or wilol otherwise be limited in a single mission and they will be disappointed. My feelings are natural and justified -  and I don't appreciate being pressued into feeling as though I should be grateful for any appearance at all. Such an argument would not carry with the largest fanbases amongst us and I don't understand nor think it's fair that it should be different here.

Nobody is faulting you for being optimistic about the game, for all we know the xbox magazine could be totally wrong, but you have no more evidence of that than I do; and I feel like I'm being told to shut up and sit in a dark corner for not sharing your opinion."

Is that clearer?

I don't want to force you into feeling grateful, I am just encouraging everyone to not jump to conclusions :) We have no idea how this will play out until we play the game for ourselves. Assuming the worst does no one any good, it's important to maintain a somewhat positive attitude whenever we can  :D Not just in this situation, but in any.

I'm not saying that the magazine is wrong, I'm just saying it could be wrong and that they don't know the full story.

You shouldn't feel the need to justify yourself by telling us that other people would react the same in your situation. You are allowed to have your own opinion.

I was thinking about things. I may get some people who agree, some people who dis-agree.
Heres what I was thinking

Those tweets that was shown. Mean NOTHING to me now. I thought about it and here is my conclusion, and I will be sticking with my theory until I play ME3 and get it done.

Hannah's ( Me) Theory : What the tweets shown, we already knew. Which means there not going to be showing us anything new until a few weeks Before release ( in my guessing). BW team members already released a CO/MP and they were telling everyone that there wasn't going to be a CO/MP. So which in my theory, I believe BW has all of in a surprise.. pulling our legs on all this talk . I believe that the Hanar homeworld will be a Horizon AND Virmire. I believe that you may get the choice to save Thane , himself, and only him, or the other Drell, and not Thane. I am probably going to be wrong, but this is my theory , and I am like I said, sticking to it until I play ME3 , Beginning to End..not leaving one little mission/assignment out. If Thane does end up being a little side mission.. I will be completely upset with BW. They made Thane to be a LI. ALL of us knew what the hell we were walking into when we romanced Thane. I romanced him. I know what I am getting myself into. I know 2 members of the ME2 squad will be gone. I HIGHLY doubt that they would take away one of there most successful squad members out, just because he has Kepral's.
BW made ME3 to have , 8 of the 12 ME2 characters come back , not including Zaeed and Kasumi. 8 of the squad members were LI's. Thane is a LI. I believe he WILL be a returning character, until I am proven wrong by BW themselves. Until ME3 proves me wrong that Thane will only be there for maybe 2 cutscenes to finish the romance, and/or to be there for that little mission that those tweets were talking about. I am sure , he will be making a big appearance. Not just horrible scenes that make you gag at BW.

That line makes me worried, because there version of content and mine I'm sure are different. They think one mission, and then we never see him agian is going to make us happy.  I'm sure they may give us a way to save him, but I doubt I will be content with his inclusion. They always say a lot of things that turn out not to be true.

I'm sure everything will be fine.  ME3 may surprise us all in the end.;)

@hanar05
Thanks for clearing that up.  I'm not a tweeter so I don't know which sources to believe sometimes.

@jtav
Part of me is wondering what kind of plot twist Bioware has in store for Thane.  It has been said that he doesn't have much connection to the Reaper plot, but that may change.  I am hoping to be blown away by whay happens in ME3.:D

@Admiral Cheez
I like the way you think, Cheez.  Here's to all the LI's getting their slice of romance fanservice cake.:wizard:

@LiveLoveThaneKrios
Why would Bioware put Thane against his entire people?  That decision is unbalanced and makes no sense, imo.  If you can save Thane then shouldn't the Drell be saved as well?  Thane fans have stated that we want  a hard choice, which I'm fully expecting, but I don't think were going to get that.  If we do, I'll rage.

Oh, come on Plakto, be a little more positive. There are many people, including guys, who romance/bromance Thane. Why would Bioware snub a fanbase that obviously exists despite fan hatred of Thane that flares up every now and then.

I'm sure we'll get to find out where those stripes go. XP

Point taken in a way ( on the 1st bolded part)
Don't think I am not a Thane fan either, I am highly a major Thane fan. Ask my brother :lol:
Anyways though, I believe that since the Hanar scientist are taken, that something happens with the cure.
In my head ( Yes I sort of ... kinda...maybe... planned out the scene in my thoughts :blush:) that depending on how fast you get there, the Hanar get killed/taken/ect . If one hanar is left, that would state that just some of the cure has been left, and that little bit could be used for one drell and one drell only.
Kinda like the suicide mission when some of your team gets taken , thats how I put it in my thoughts. Depending on how fast you do it, all the Hanar Scientist are saved, the slower you do it ( like doing assignments ) some Hanar will get killed/taken. The more the Hanar get killed/taken , the less of cure. Technically meaning, there would be just a little bit of the cure .
It looks better with image :lol: . But that up there, ^ , is only just a silly imagionation
And I hope that the Bioware people don't read that, they may take that as a scene and post-pone ME3 longer :P
Or maybe I'm just a dumb person with a silly imagination like I said. My train of thoughts will get the best of me sometimes.
And don't be mad at me if you are, sounded a little touchy there in your message.:lol:
And also, reading the little bit at the end ( 2nd part I bolded)
I also want a hard choice. A realllly hard one where I gotta think about it for a long time before I make a disscion. I'm that kinda person ;). I am sure, if Thane just gets that little mission, I'm sure there will be a difficult choice.
Sorry for the long message :unsure:

I'd say that my two favorite romances (exclusively) in ME2 are Kelly's and Thane's; Kelly's because it's the most realistic, and Thane's because I feel it has the best story, with the initial buildup regarding his wife, the whole "siha" thing, their discussion of plans to visit a desert on Earth, him admitting his returned fear of death, the LotSB letter... they did a lot to make it interesting from numerous angles.

It's very well-rounded, yes. Part of the reason I find it most compelling. I don't even play my FemShep all that much but Thane's romance gave me a reason to, especially since Ashley wasn't in ME2 so it was pointless and rather boring playing my MaleShep more than a couple times through.
