For those of you who have been following the Kaidan and Ashley in ME3 Wishlist thread in the Mass Effect 2 Official Campaign Quests and Storylines (Spoilers Warning) thread, we’ve gotten quite a few people to support our cause, and have had lots of ideas as to how Ashley and Kaidan would be best represented in ME3.
This will be the thread to discuss what their role will be in ME3, what we can expect regarding character and relationship differences between the two characters, as well as have a clean slate regarding the discussion.
The OP will have a combination of confirmed features for the characters, as well as requests from fans. I realize that this list is shorter than the other thread,
but I think it’s a nice frameowork to go by while allowing new points of discussion. This thread will likely have ME3 spoilers, so, beware!

CONFIRMED FEATURES
Ashley and Kaidan are squadmates.
Ashley and Kaidan rescue Shepard with the new, rebuilt Normandy.
CHARACTER AND RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT REQUESTS
While we’re not expecting to fully pick up our relationship where we left off in ME1, there is still a previous relationship there. What if they initiated the issue of, "where do we go from here?"
There’s some wonder as to whether or not non-romanced Kaidan and Ashley’s can be romanced by Shep in ME3 if they didn’t in ME1. Should this option be available, please, please, PLEASE DON'T make the romances the same with only a few extra references lines for the faithfuls. We believe the relationship dynamics would be different from starting a new relationship versus a previously established one.
Remember the drinks with Chakwas? Could we have a drinking session with our squad? That was a nice bit of banter and commaderie.
That being said, we don’t expect everybody to be buddy-buddy with Shepard. Please put in different relationship reactions for Ashley and Kaidan—anger, sadness, happiness, sarcasm. Make use of the dialogue wheel please!
The confrontation on Horizon needs to be addressed
Kaidan and Ashley are two different characters, and unfortunately are always lumped into one persona: the "Virmire Survivor" (VS); we would like unique dialogue, actions, cutscenes, and abilities that reflects their respective personalities, talents and character growth.
Please, do not change Kaidan’s and Ashley’s core personality. Character development is necessary; however character development =/= complete character overhaul.

More than anything, I just want their characters to be consistent. I don't expect them to be stagnant, a fair bit if of time has passed between ME1 and ME3, they've been through a lot and obviously their characters will have grown somewhat. But I don't want them to lose what made us fall in love with them to begin with.

I want the friendship path clearly addressed.... Shep can be very good friends with the VS, and I want that to be made apparent too
