During any E3 interviews I've seen, BioWare peeps keep answering (essentially) the same thing when asked about the possibility of any as-yet-unconfirmed characters (usually LIs) returning in ME3: "If they were important to you, then they will be returning."
Do you think this is just a convenient catch-all that covers all the bases (whether they return in cameos, as temp. or as perm. squaddies) or is there the possibility that some room on the squad is for team-members you have the choice to recruit (because you had a relationship with them, etc.) -- while others you may not even bother recruiting or maybe can't based on disloyalty or whatever. Could be a potential nightmare for BioWare to have all of this extra choice but it is the last game, so who knows?
Could it be...?

It's been talked about here and there, I certainly hope that is the case... it would be so good!

Something makes me think this means: "everyone survived the Virmire and SM will return in one role or another"

That is what I have been wondering. Could see it as a nightmare, but would gladly be appreciative of it.

I could be wrong but I think it’s just a catch-all, they will return in some form. I thought they were doing a smaller squad but more depth as oppose to having a large squad where the characters don't say a heck of allot? if they are letting you pick and choose wouldn't they have to build every character like a full companion?

If they made all the current LIs recruitable that would be 9 (I'm counting Kaiden/Ash as 2 as they are 2 resource wise) which is quite a lot and getting close to the ME2 numbers which makes me wonder, as it's been stated that we're getting a smaller squad.

They returned but not how we expected them too, huh? Interesting what happened a year ago and now.

Since this is Necro, I will troll answer.
All of the ME2 squaddies weren't required because ASHLEY/kaidan were returning!

Boy did we all fall for that fallacy hook, line, and sinker.
You got us good Bioware. 10/10

Well, technically BW didn't lie. All LI's returned the one or the other way ...
Okay ... Thane died. But you can talk to him and you can pray for him.
Jacob cheats on fem!Shep by getting another woman preggy within two months or so after he got into Shepard's pants, but hey, at least he's happy now. And if you truly loved him ... right. You want him to be happy.
Kinda.
This thread smells a bit deadly. ^^

Don't you think its a bit stereotypically bad that Jacob got another woman pregnant? Not trying to pull any strings here, but really Bioware?
