I haven't had Shep talked to Jacob much so can someone tell me if he ever does talk more about his father? I only have gal Shep, don't want to romance this char but just want to find if there is more he will talk about. Tried the the line that prodded him about his dad and he brushed if off and closed the subject.

Well I have to say, even in real life, people say the dumbest things at the worst moments and sometimes you just gotta make them make it up to you (Jacob says "I love you" if you tell him you have no time for the PRIIIZE)

I always make sure he says the three words Because I melt every time he says it (his VO's voice... )

@Obsidian Nope, he hates it when you get "nosey" and stuff, he can even break up with you. (that quality however makes him better than the others in my opinion because he can think for himself, in a sense...)

Nope. But i alway got the feeling it was Killing him inside.

I hope its Developed further in ME3.

Jacob only mentions his father once if you get through with the debriefing with TIM. He'll assure Shepard that he's okay. If yoy play as a FemShep and tell him he's lying to himself he'll essentially say ****** Off. Otherwise if you take his word for it he'll tell Shep that he'll save the heart-to-heart over drinks when they're through with the Suicide Mission.

I got this sense that Jacob doesn't like to dwell. get over it, move on, move to the future. he likes to move ahead accomplish things and dwelling in the past on what ifs is not very productive. you can acknowledge that his father must have done something right in a past, seeing how he turned out all right, with values intact. and that's about it. that man is gone, moving on now. I don't think he's repressing any regrets to be honest. even with Miranda, she sounded a lot more wistful then he had. to me he sounded almost... bemused. to me its part of his charm. he is still a nuanced character, but he's also very straightforward, honest. you always know where you stand with Jacob - I like that about him

You know I often here people say to someone who thinks Jacob is an ass."Just romance him and then you'll see how cool he is." That has always struck me as a strange thing to say Can you imagine someone saying that to you about someone you don't get on well with in real life? You would be like - WTF

If you have to romance someone to see their better side than they don't have one worth seeing - I say...

For me, I have never even romanced Operative Jacob Taylor.He's just a bromance.For my Shep.I grew to like him just from interacting with him in a professional compacity.But I will confess that I sort of like totally agree with what Saphra Deden and Golden Owl had to say about Jacob in another thread:

Golden Owl: Neither do I...but it's a bit jarring and a kind of "what the h*ll?" when you are first learning the parameters of an NPC's dialog....Now I just time it for full dialog, but was jarring when still working that one out.

To speak for myself:  When Jacob came at me like that when I asked him to talk.I was like.
"Okay... Well -- f*ck you then..." <_< Kaidan had a similar but not as extreme way of letting Shepard know that he had better things to do than get to know him.He says something like: "I've taken up enough of your time, blah blah blah and something else."

In spite of this.I decided to not give up on Jacob and I'm glad that i didn't. In my first playthrough of ME 2 - I even used his loyalty power most of all - Barrier.

I think Jacob's "not big on forcing these talks" line is certainly part of why he isn't all that popular, at least on the boards. All other squadmates had a line to fit that role, but they are rarely as aggressive as Jacob's. The repetitive lines get a lot of heat, like in the case of Garrus' calibrations. But with the calibrations, the criticism is directed at Bioware for not fleshing out dialogue enough. With Jacob's line, the criticism just focuses on his character, at least from what I've noticed.

Well yes, I do think he had bad luck with that line. Remember feeling a little rebuffed on my first FemShep. Now I know his character much better so it isn't a problem for me anymore.

And have you guys seen the new FemShep =) will have to romance Jacob with a redhead FemShep just so I can use the default in ME3. She's wonderful!

I agree that at first it was annoying to hear the "not big on forcing these talks" line, but that was mostly because I impatiently wanted to jump into the romance. The payoff is definitely worth it, though.

Does anybody else customize Shepard's armor colors based on who she/he is dating? I have more than a few femsheps in black and orange to match Jacob's loyalty armor.

I've been playing through ME2 again and using Jacob on my squad a lot. The character really deserves more love than he gets imo. Here's hoping he has a big damn hero moment in ME3.

I still say he should make his entrance riding a reaaper, shirtless, in space andbe like "Shepard, I heard oyu could use some extra fire power!" and then shoots the reaper's gun at the Repaer fleet.

@ Flemm welcome and I agree on hero moment for Jacob =) we wants it.


Just took the current FemShep through Purgatory in order to get Jack. Always bring Jacob with me to that one. When Kuril explains how they get their funding and comes to the part of unspecified place and time. Jacob says exactly what I'm thinking, extortion racket. And when those two prisoners get into a fight and they are separated with blue force fields Jacob looks out through the windows at that scene looking so serious. I really believe he hates that place as much as my FemShep.

Have a feeling that the betrayal by Kyril wasn't a total surprise to Jacob and FemShep

I said it in the past, Jacob is really the Anti-Garrus. He's not indecisive about issues in his life, he handles his $#&@ and move on.

@RPGmom28: Yeah I color coordinate (every now and then) with not only my Sheps love interest but also his brothers (or sisters) in arms.

When with Grunt and Legion in battle.Sheps armor is grey.

Whether in battle or exploring.In the company of Ms.Lawson - my chief Mass Effect 2 L.I. (as of right now) Shep's armor is prodominately white and has black peppered on it at certain places.They look so good together.Really complimentary... (My custom created Shepard and Miranda.) I'm going to get around to uploading pics of them some day...

I never played the Mass Effect Galaxy game? Old friends from there? Ohh.... was it some good story to it. If that's the case I would be happy to see it. And see if Ash and Jacob met before when serving on Eden Prime, that would make me really happy.

I'm guessing that both Jacob and Miranda will be tied to the Cerberus-plot. Hoping that that's one of the reasons why we hear so little about them. But I'm wondering if and how the story might change for Jacob if Miranda died in the SM. For story purposes I have one FemShep who lost Miranda but romances Jacob. Don't have high hopes for a very big change, but if that was the case I would be really happy, simply because I enjoy seeing different things in my games. The next FemShep that romances Jacob will probably be BBF with Miranda, how will I else know what's different in the game. But I'm hoping that Jacob also has connections to the Cerberus-plot and not only Miranda, and I guess my Shep will hope that they have some good info on Cerberus. Something that a Shep who lost both Jacob and Miranda wouldn't have access to. Oh well, we just have to wait and see.
