Just read the spoilers. Sadly, it's actually not shocking to me. Surprising, yes, but not shocking.
I'd had reservations about Jacob's sense of loyalty for a while.
You might have a case for his professional carrer, but not personally.
not only that but the way this was set up - directly contradicts the character we saw in ME2. Jacob is honest. Jacob is straight forward. Jacob doesn't mince words, he gives it to you straight. he doesn't pretend, doesn't stew. if he has a problem? you are going to know about it, straight from the source. and when in relationship - he's caring, thoughtful and conciderate (unless you are an arse to him of course - in which case he dumps you. right there and then). He tells femshep, he loves her. he lets her vent. sending him away before suicide mission isntead of having sex does NOT make him angry or break off the romance. he chuckes and understands. so he's not in it just for the physical.
and honestly - his professional loyalty is not like that of Zaeed's. he's not in it for the credits or the glory. he is loyal as long as you are actualy getting **** done. He want's to do some good, he wants to make a difference. and he's principled enough to stand up for what he feels is right.
I am so with you there. Jacob was dedicated to a cause- fixing the galaxy, making it a better place, whatever you want to call it, that loyalty superceded that of whatever group (The Alliance, Cerberus) he threw in with to achieve that goal. That's dedication and determination. And because he felt that one group wasn't getting enough done, he found one that could.
On a personal level, we know that Jacob never settled down before because work kept him mobile, and that the Miranda fling eventually didn't go anywhere. Female Shepard has to almost drag Jacob kicking and screaming into the romance. For him to suddenly ****** PM me if you want details****** is not betrayal on Jacob's part, but on the part of the writers.
If the writers showed Jack in ME3 with all her tattoos removed, lots of hair, wearing a yellow sundress or Miranda's catsuit, and if she was suddenly a firm supporter of Cerberus with a happy-go-lucky personality, that wouldn't be character development. That would be the writers trying to make Jack into someone she isn't- that's seeing the hand of the writer in the cutscene.
Same with this
thing with Jacob.
