Very true. Though I suppose we could be like just about every other Character Thread and make it a screen capture dumping ground.

While we're doing some screenies I can't recall if I posted this before or not. It's my Shep Cathleen playing matchy matchy with Jacob.
Ha ha =) I missed this pic when you posted it earlier. Now I have to try it as well next time I play. Matching outfits for the win. They are so cute together.

That's the primary reason the Miranda thread has almost 1000 pages.

I'm on my third ME2 playthrough and I decided to be more open-minded this time around after two games of distrusting the caracters who are willingly affiliated with Cerberus. So I've been paying more attention to most characters, including Jacob, and I've noticed that he's often quite hostile towards the new teammates. Since you probably all know a lot more about Jacob than I currently do, maybe you could enlighten me... What's his deal?

He's often quite hostile huh? Only to Thane. One time doesn't qualify as often.

How do you explain Anderson's popularity?Well naturally nobody would openly admit it and to be fair as with a lot of things it's probably subconcious for the most part. e.g. Hollywood filmmakers have openly stated that (largely white) audiences prefer white leading men and women which is why the overwhelming majority of them are.Of course that isn't the sole reason but I believe that it is certainly a factor in his lack of popularity.
I realize this is a few days old and don't want to stir up a cold conversation, but I felt this needed adding.
I would also argue that Anderson is light-skinned where Jacob is not and that makes quite a difference.
See: this, this, and this.
While those links mostly talk about internalized group dynamics and issues of race, I would argue that they are a reflection of a society where certain skin and hair types are seen as more desirable or more attractive. Anderson is light-skinned "black" man who is given some pretty awesome moments in Mass Effect and routinely has Shepard's back without question. Jacob is a dark-skinned "black man" who works for the "enemy," is fairly self-contained, and is supportive but not against all odds like Anderson.
Jacob's skin doesn't work solely against him, but I don't think he helps in the least bit and for some really close-minded types it would be certainly a detriment. I think it plays a part for sure. Plus he has the misfortune of being pitted against Garrus and Thane (though I will NEVER understand appeal there...).
I have thoughts/opinions on the whole hollywood thing, but this isn't the place for them. PM me if curious.
Okay, I should go.

Unless he is counting Tali.... But she was being **** towards JT earlier in the conversation while he was being polite and courteous. The "Meet EDI our ship's AI" line might have been a jab at her (I think so) but he was just probably getting tired of her crap. I also wouldn't call his remarks toward Thane as "hostile", he was being protective of Shepard and the crew, considering that Thane is an assassin.CC-Tron wrote...

false. When you recruit Mordin he says it's an honor. When you get garrus he says he's a "tough son of a B**ch for being up and about after a rocket to the face. He compliments tali's combat ability even though she's being a rude little girl to him, He's honor to be working with Samara and just about everyone on the ship with the exception of Thane because he's stopped assasins before so he's got history with people of Thane's career path. Same with Legion because he was on Eden prime and he's fought the Geth and again he says "Tali's gonna freak" when Shepard decides to keep legion still thinkig of her despite her attitutde towards him. Jacob is alot of things, but he's not hostile towards his crew members.rudenotginger wrote...

Maybe my views are a bit biased since im not a Jacob fan but heres a thought.
To me Jacob is agreable to teammates who are onboard to focus on the mission and hostile to those he doubts the intentions (like Thane) or who want to rehash old problems (like Tali and the Cerb/Quarians relationships). He will voice up his concern of leaving someone behind to protect Garrus on his recruitment mission. He can also be hostile to Shep if he/she tries to make a fuss about personal things. Its part of his 'Lets leave the bullsh*t behind and get the job done' attitude.
One could say 'those are just 2-3 occasions so it means nothing'. I would have to disagree since 2-3 times is a lot of character development in a video game like ME2.
Instead of trying to minimise Jacob's hostility, I prefer to see it as a highmark (not sure its the right english term) of his paragade nature. Hes a good guy. Be hes got a backbone and isnt afraid to show it. Specially if he feels something/someone threatens the mission. Whether hes right to do so in all those situations is up to interpretation. But he will take an active stand in what he believes, be it hostile or forthcoming.
So yeah hes way less bland then we hear people say.

Anyway, interesting point, outmane. It makes sense. I don't think he's boring either, I have no idea where people get that one from.

Outside of Thane, who was he hostile to?
He was actually quite congenial to Samara, Mordin, and Garrus. He tried to be with Tali, but she was hostile in return. Miranda did the "welcome the new guy" with Jack. That leaves out Grunt and Legion, and he was definitely justified with feeling wary about activating both.

Lord Zeel if you are not going to say anything nice in this thread then stay away from this thread simple as that
Hell, it doesn't even have to be nice. Constructive is welcomed as well, but then again he's not even being subtle with his trolling so it's best to ignore him.
