If I wanted to troll I would not target the most irrelevant fanbase on BSN. This thread has less activity than some of the NPC's.

Outmane - its definitely a very interesting way of looking at Jacob's behavior and I have to say - it makes a great deal of sense. I still don't see him as hostile though, more like.. cautious when it comes to people he doesn't see as trustworthy
Another awesome thing about Jacob - he shows the player how he feels or what he thinks of the rest. Most of the team practically don't acknowledge each other's existence. And then somehow people take a couple incidents and call him hostile. He was genuinely trying to be nice to Tali. I only see him distrust Thane because he has a personal dislike for mercenaries and their kind.
And since this is a new page...
Some of my personal faves (I HAVE PLENTY)

Hey, no need to get so defensive. I didn't come here to bash Jacob. He's a good, tough soldier and the only one who salutes Shepard properly. "Often quite hostile" might have been a little strong, but I recruited Thane and Tali one after the other, so it sort made me go "Did somebody ****** in his coffee or something?". Like I said, I don't know the character very well yet. I do plan to take some time to have a chat with him, but I haven't yet. I haven't read any books or comics. I don't know what his motivations are for his attitude towards Thane and Tali. I figured I would come and ask here, just have a discussion.
Anyway, interesting point, outmane. It makes sense. I don't think he's boring either, I have no idea where people get that one from.

Nice to see you here. Jupp, you came to the right place to ask. It's actually how I discovered Jacob myself.
I decided to romance him with a FemShep but I hadn't talked to him that much on the previous FemShep, started to think a little more about his dialouge and came over to the Jacob-thread in the old ME2-forum to ask questions. It turns out that I had misunderstod the line about Miranda, "She deserves a better man than me". Initially I took that as him not being over her and ended the relationship, then I went over to the thread and asked about it and that was it. A lot of people here where in the old thread and they made take a new look at Jacob. After that he has been one of my favorites in the game =)
Would like to hear what you make of Jacob after playing a little more later on, do come over here again.

Hey SilentK,
Thank you! I appreciate that. What's your take on Jacob's attitude towards Thane and Tali? Any history there I should know about?

Hmm... how I see it.
Let's take Tali first, like people mention before Jacob is quite nice towards Tali and she is a little less welcoming. I do not know all the background history between quarians and cerberus but I guess that it isn't good and that is the reason for her not being to happy about being there. She is worried about Shepard and the connection to cerberus. Jacob on the other hand is courteous towards her. I actually see him mentioning EDI as a nice thing since my Shepard obviously forgets to do so and this is something she should know that Tali would like to hear about. It is better that she hears it up front from someone in the crew than finding it out later herself. The sad thing here is that we only see their initial meeting but have no idea how their relationship progresses throughout the game. I would like to think that if my FemShep told Tali, who she pretty much sees as a little sister, that she loves Jacob and trusts him implicitly this would give Tali a reason to take a new look at him. Perhaps see Jacob without the Cerberus logo. We are lacking banter that tells more about the crew so we are left to decided all their relationships on a single meeting pretty much. Miranda and Jack is the exception I guess.
Thane I would say that it is what others have said before. Jacob initially mistrusts a assasin, because he knows that Thane is skilled at what he does. It is not directed at Thane as a person but rather at his profession. What would happen if Thane had had a mission to infiltrate the Normandy or something to that effect. I would love to see how Jacob and Thane interact later on when they know that they both believe in the mission. I can actually see them becoming perhaps not the best of friends but at least good colleagues since they are both calm and quite serious about what they do. But again, we have nothing to draw any conclusions on other than that initial meeting. How I would love some DAII-type banter to discuss and look at.
Hmm... sorry about the novel, I get wordy sometimes, lol. But short version, towards Tali he is quite nice and towards Thane he expresses initial distrust because of his profession. But we really don't know how they get along later on. Crew interaction isn't really that common. Here's hoping that the crew get's to know each other a little better in ME3.

I can't fault Tali for being a bit snarky about it, even though Jacob was polite, he's still Cerberus and she doesn't know his motives. Also she could have taken the AI comment as a dig at the quarians in general, again at this point she doesn't know Jacobs motives.
I think overall squad interactions in ME were lacking, given time I'm sure she'd come to see that he is a good man, that his concern is very similar to hers, and if we'd only had that interparty banter we might have seen this evolve.

@SilentK, the background history on the quarians and Cerberus takes place in the novel 'ascension' where a Cerberus commando unit attacks a quarian ship in order to try and retrieve Gillian Grayson. It's rather complex, but a lot of the quarians (and Tali's) hostility stems from this.

The other thing people should remember is that once Legion is, uhh.. retrieved, if Shepard decides to activate Legion in order to talk to him, Jacob says, "Tali's going to freak when she hears this," and then (I'm assuming) shoots off a message on his omnitool. It certainly looks like he's sending a message ( a short one, probably nothing more than,
Talk to Shepard). This is after, obviously, one has recruited Tali, and Tali has made her distrust of Cerberus personnel clear.
And still, Jacob gave her a heads-up, same as he had done with EDI.

Though I can "understand" the hate he gets, he is never really tested as a character, we never see any other side of him apart from the disilusion he has with those he works for, case with the Alliance when he served and now with Cerberus.
Still, he's a great character, would love to have him in ME 3 !

LOL... I kill that guy every time, Paragon or not. It's good to know someone else has pangs of guilt about it.

I still stand by my Theory that Jacob's entrance into ME3 should be during a cutscne in space where he's riding a reaper shirtless with no helmet.
Ohh!
That would be amazing in so many ways.... especially considering he didn't get a kickass entrance like EVERYONE ELSE in ME2...

Wait...Jacob can die in the suicide mission, proving his mortality. And yet he wears no oxygen mask, so he is not mortal. Ergo, he cannot die in the suicide mission.
Hmmmm....Paradox.
