I'm not really a Jacob fan, but I'm just here to give my sincerest thoughts to all of you who are. Damn, it must sting.

Man they took a dump on Jacob. So ridiculous.

It's more like they took a dump on Femshep or the Jacob romance. Jacob makes out fine personally.

They took a dump ON US.

Mass Effect 3 Jacob is a pod person.
Yeah, it's pretty apparent they put the least amount of effort into his romance because of his unpopularity with the majority of the fanbase. Couldn't even just have him sacrifice himself.

Sacrificing himself would still suck and would still get complaints from JT fans who romanced him or didn't . Even if Femshep got a good romance she dies at the end any way. 3 choices. Choose a path and die.

This proves otherwise.

Woo, a blink and you miss it breath, in the ending where you wipe out an entire benevolent species and murder a squadmate as collateral, and everyone you fought besides for most of the game and most people romanced are still totally screwed. That totally makes up for the 6 other unrelentingly miserable options...

Anyway, my heart goes out to you Jacob fans, screwing you lot over like this is completely out of line of Bioware.

You all have my sympathies.

The thing is, I understand that in real life, people move on. But Jacob isn't RL person, he is a game love interest, and he is supposed to be treated like that. Can you imagine Garrus having hots for his second in command, or Kaidan getting it on with civilian on the earth?
The only reason Bioware did it they though no one took Jacob's romance seriously. And they. WERE. WRONG

***SPOILER*****

Well I haven't played my Femshep yet but I have no desire to romance anyone else with her (Kaidan was history after Horizon). So she will get dumped by Jacob, become even more ruthless and meet her fate at the end. Then she can finally find peace by merging with reapers.

I always do my femshep playthroughs after my Male Shep. My "canon" femshep is NOT going to be happy.

Well, having someone you care for leaving you in that way when you are already in a million pieces would make that the logical choice. Hmm... could be a interesting reason for playing a FemShep that really just breaks apart. Perhaps going from true-blue-paragon to renegade all of a sudden. Think that mine will find solace with Liara instead. Tell us about it afterwards.

I wonder what it was that broke Jacob. Miranda has give time and attention to Oriana, that is something to live for, keeping her safe and staying head of Cerberus agents. Something she has to fight for other than Shepard. Jacob must have felt utterly alone in the world for him to end up in this way. Not the ending I wanted for my FemShep. But, I can in a way see this happening. How much can you really take when the world starts to fall appart. I get a very different vibe from him now than in ME2, it is as if he is broken in a way, he want's to find something good and hold on to it. Hmm... have to ponder this a little more.

Well yes, it isn't what I thought would be happening with Jacob. Looking forward to hearing how you guys see it coming about. What would make Jacob do something like this?

Seriously, CRISIS isn't the best time to have children.

I just don't get why a loyal romanced Jacob would do something like this. It's not that he moved on. It's that he does it behind Shepard's back. Everything about his character says that's precisely the last thing he'd do.

I did romance Jacob once.
But now....its like did the guy who did his writing in ME3 even play his romance in ME2?

That's the second time the writers had Jake do something out of character though. Jake volunteering for the vents was not like him. Thane more likely would have done that ("I'm dying. Suicidal odds don't concern me") but they picked Jake to volunteer. Perhaps the most level headed person on the team and a battle tactician. It made me believe BW did that on purpose and now this foolishness.

Of course, though Lukas Kristjanson is back on the Dragon Age team and didn't write him in Mass Effect 3.

TriviaAeducan wrote...

Probably not, though I know a few people - myself included - who were actually more interested because of it.

I wasn't ever a serious Jacob romancer on my Femshep, but he was who she went with and the fact I had an active Jacob romance save for this actually made me laugh out loud.  I thought it was poetic since she was cheating on Kaidan with him and he just moved on.  Was reading his dialogue in the .TLK before my copy unlocked and chuckling the whole time.

But I really, really like it when companions/romance interests don't simply/easily fall for and worship the BioWare protagonist because they always do.   It's always soul mates, true love, etc.  So I understand and feel bad for the people who really invested in the Jacob romance, but for my part I'm enjoying it.  Even gonna bring Kaidan along and see if he rubs it in.

...then my Femshep will swear off men forever and leap into the shower with Samantha.  Mmm... Samantha...

No. The romance and the endings are lame as hell. I'm on my second play with male Shep and I'm in no hurry to start playing with my Femshep.

Lame isn't the word for it. He cheats on femshep behind her back. The other woman admits to knowing about Shepard and pursuing him anyway. To top it all off she wants to name their kid Shepard. Bioware would been better of having Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" music video play when you try to do Jacob's mission. I mean they trolled the hell out of us.

I'd be shocked if it turns out that wasn't an oversight.  The conversation there plays out exactly the same if you didn't romance him.  Which... doesn't make any sense.  Other conversations have changed based on romance over far less of an issue than that.

Guys, I am really sorry. I didn't romance Jacob but still quite liked him as a character. I thought the thing with him and his doctor was cute, but I never imagined he'd still do it in the romance. I have other complaints with ME3 that can largely be chalked up to the devs trying to do too much with too little, but Jacob's treatment in ME3 is complete and utter bull. Solidarity :)
