I'm still pissed about Jacob becoming a stereo type. It was one of my favorite aspects of him. He wasn't stereotypical.

Voted, if there was a chance to get a Jacob in ME3 that felt more like the ME2-version I would be beyond happy.


Do you guys think that you would feel differently about the situation with Jacob if it was possible to talk to him about it? Now, it just doesn't come up, which is just the oddest thing. Would it be better to get some closure on it? Would you feel better about FemShep being left if they could talk about it? It's just so strange, the talk with Kaidan about Horizon was great, they had great convos in which you talked about some difficult times in the past. And it felt good. Hmm... it is such a different situation from this. Kaidan is really 10/10 for me, and not only for him staying and it being romantic. Even a sad romance could be really good, if it was well-written. How do you guys feel? I want Jacob back, but even more than that, I want Jacob to be Jacob.

Talking about it doesn't help his characterization in the slightest. It would change nothing. It would still take place after the fact and only because Traynor just happens to track down the scientists.

I have never romanced Jacob but I don't think providing the Jacob fans with a sad romance, no matter if they had written it well could ever be justified to me. The lack of choice in the Jacob and Thane romances annoys me massively, there was no good artistic reason to not have a choice this was a resources issue which resulted in a lesser game and alienated fans.

As I understand it, many of the LI fans are scrambling to put together their own fan-books, and I say full steam ahead! I think it will allow fans of a particular LI to get really into just what they like about that character. But Aryss, Nick and I would appreciate it very much if you would consider submitting something to our new project: The Tribute.

Hi Jacob fans!
I don't know if you have heard, but the following Me2 romances have begun working on character fanbooks: Thane, Miranda and Jack.

If you as fans of Jacob want to make one of your own, then I'll be more than happy to provide a layout for your fan book.
The Layout is based on the datapad/store interface from Mass Effect 3, Thane's layout has a green/lime palette, Miranda's is Black/White/Blue, Jack's is Scarlet, Jacob's is Yellow and Samara's is Wine/Gold.

If you think a different colour palette would suit Jacob better, then I'll wip something up.
The fanbook pages are composed of the following:

Intro page (A sort of dedication page for the character in question as a character)

Artist/Writer blurb (Every artist/author gets a page to introduce themselves and why they love Jacob)

Art page (suitable for fanart, screenshots etc.)

Text page (suitable for fanfic's, letters)

Credits (Self explainatory, credit to everyone who contributed as well as a "Thank you" to Bioware)

There is also the Support page (this page is a list of those who don't do fanart/fanfics but still support the character in question and the purpose of the fanbook) but I have not made a specific page for it yet, but it will probably be a variant of the "Credits" page.
 
Also the pic used (the screenshot of Jacob) can easily be changed, it's just a placeholder as is the text.

Any questions and suggestions about the layout are welcome!

If anyone of you Jacob fans decide to start this project just Pm me and I'll send the layout's .psds (photoshop documents) to you.

Normandy CIC

Traynor: "Commander, I've found something interesting. Based on Cerberus comm-chatter, a group of their top level scientist have gone off grid."

Shepard: "Off grid? The Illusive Man is probably trying to hide his brain trust."

Traynor: "That's what I thought at first, but it seems they've left Cerberus. The Illusive Man is spending a considerable amount of time trying to track them down. I think I've triangulated their position."

Shepard: "If the Illusive Man is that desperate to find them, we need to find them first. Good work Traynor."

UT47A-Kodiak outside the facility on Gellix

Cortez: "Commander looks like we are flying into a hotzone. Cerberus is attacking the facility in full force."

Ashley: "They must really want those scientists skipper."

Vega: "I thought you were loco jefe. Looks like the scientist have six guys taking on a Cerberus battalion."

Shepard: "Wait...is that Jacob leading the guards? Drop us and get clear Cortez."

Cortez: "Aye Aye Commander."

Jacob's team is barely holding off by the Cerberus force. Cerberus is using their superior numbers to flank his position. He throws up a barrier to protect his squad. A Cerberus Atlas fires on their position. Jacob strains to hold up his barrier until a rocket from the Atlas finally brings it down. The explosion sends Jacob hurtling into the wall behind him. Shepard and her team bring down the Atlas but not in time to save Jacob's team

Jacob: "Shepard!? Never thought I'd see you again."

Shepard: "We didn't part on the best of terms..."

Woman's voice: "Jacob! Come in Jacob!

Jacob: *struggles to reach the communicator, Shepard picks it up"

Shepard: "This is Commander Shepard, Alliance Navy. We've pushed back the Cerberus assault."

Woman's Voice: "Is Jacob there?"

Jacob: "Brynn, I'm okay but the rest of the squad didn't make it."

Brynn: "I'm sorry Jacob...I never thought he'd find us."

Ashley:"LT? Haven't seen you since the inter squad war games in 2183"

Jacob:"Chief Williams?"

Vega:"You guys do know Cerberus is lurking about. Maybe you pendejo's could discuss this....I don't know inside the base?"

Ex-Cerberus Facility Gellix

Brynn: "Jacob, your hurt."

Jacob: "I'm fine Brynn. This is Commander Shepard, Chief Williams, and..."

Vega: "Lt. Vega."

Ashley: "Actually it's Lt. Commander Williams"

Jacob: "Three ranks in two years? I guess the Alliance was making up for lost time."

Shepard: "Jacob, you should get that checked out..."

Jacob: "Didn't know you cared. Anyway no time. They'll be back. Have to get the AA guns up."

Shepard: "Why does Cerberus want you all so badly?"

Brynn: "We were working on a important project for the Illusive Man. Each cell had a different aspect of the project. After the completion of their tasks, our fellow scientist started disappearing."

Jacob: "The Illusive Man was killing them."

Ashley: "Humanity first my ass."

Vega: "I can't figure Smokes out. He spends all those credits to stop the Collectors and now he seems to be helping the Reapers."

Shepard: "Smokes?"

Vega: "That's what he's always doing..."

Ashley: "You and your nicknames..."

Shepard: "What is this project you were working on?"

Brynn: "As I said we each had a separate part of the overall project. I'm not completely certain of what the culmination of work was supposed to be. However, I have surmised that it has something to do with Indoctrination."

Jacob: "We really don't have time for this. We need to get the guns up so we can evacuate the scientist and their family's."

Ashley: "You have family's here?"

Jacob: "If the Illusive Man is willing to kill his best and brightest, he'd certainly do the same to their family's. We had to bring them here to protect them. To keep him from using them as leverage... I hope Miranda and Oriana are okay."

Brynn: "Jacob, please go see the medic. I can't have you dying on me. Especially now."

Jacob: "Alright Brynn, since you insist."

Medical Lab

Shepard: "We need to talk Jacob."

Jacob: "What about?"

Shepard: "Us. The way things ended."

Jacob: "What is there to say. I understood not detouring to the Gernsback before the Collector Base. I would have rather tied up loose ends before it, but I understood."

Shepard:"If you understood then why end things."

Jacob: "After we hit the Omega 4 Relay. After the mission was done. We could have checked out the Gernsback. I asked for your help. You declined. "

Shepard:"I'm sorry Jacob. I didn't realize how important this was to you."

Jacob: "I'm not angry with you Shepard. I never was angry with you. I love..loved you. I was just disappointed."

Shepard: "When this over, when we get your people out of here. I could use you on the Normandy. Not just for the fight against the Reapers. I miss...us."

Jacob: "I'm sorry Shepard. I can't go with you. We can't go back to way things used to be. I've moved on"

Shepard: "Moved on...with Dr. Cole?"

Jacob: "Yeah. After you turned yourself in. I got call from Brynn. She needed my help. We met before, about six months before I met you. Brynn was in the Mumbai Cell. She needed my help protecting these people from Cerberus."

Shepard: "Six months before?"

Jacob: "I know that look Shepard. It was strictly professional. We didn't become close until after I broke things off with you. I don't play those sorts of games Shepard. You know me better than that."

Shepard: "So there is no chance for us."

Jacob: "No..I'm sorry."

Shepard: "We could make a detour to 2175 Aeia after we are done here."

Jacob: "I appreciate the sentiment Shepard. It's too late though. Brynn helped me find the Gernsback before we set up here. Even with the Illusive Man after her, she risked it all to help. That's when I realized how much she cared."


Citadel Encounter After Gellix

Shepard: "Jacob? What are you doing here and in Alliance gear"

Jacob: "Brynn and her team are working on the Crucible Project. With her safe, I really couldn't turn down Admiral Hackett's offer."

Shepard:"Yeah I never could turn down Hackett either."

Jacob: "Yeah, even got a bump in rank. Tell Williams she isn't the only LC around."

Shepard: "There's still room on the Normandy for you. Vega even has full set of weights in the Armory."

Jacob: "Tempting, but I have my orders. Admirals outrank Commanders after all."

Shepard: "What are you holding there? A list of names?"

Jacob: "Yeah...uh"

Shepard: "Let me guess, Hackett has you putting together some sort of guerrilla squad."

Jacob: "Yes..but that's not what names are for. Brynn and I. Well, we are having a baby Shepard."

Shepard:"Oh..I...well congratulations"

Jacob: "I'm sorry Shepard. I didn't mean to.."

Shepard: "No. It's okay. I know you'll make great dad."

Jacob "Brynn wanted to name the baby after you. Since you saved us on Gellix....but that's before she knew about us. So Shepard and Ronald are off the table."

Shepard: "That would have been awkward. Well, stay safe out there Jacob."

Jacob: "You do the same. If anyone can stop the Reapers, it's you Shepard."

Jacob: "Shepard. I don't have much time. I'm supposed to be maintaining radio silence."

Shepard: "Really? It's nice to know you took such a heavy risk to talk to me."

Jacob: "What I can I say Shepard, I just wanted to...talk for bit."

Shepard: "Okay...I deserved that. How have you been? I usually see you at least once a week and I haven't seen you in four."

Jacob: "How have I been? I was going to ask the same of you. When I got word of the Reaper attack on Earth..."

Shepard: "I'm fine Jacob. I appreciate the thought."

Jacob: "I've missed you. Half of the reason I rejoined the Alliance was so that I'd be allowed to see you."

Shepard: "And the other half?"

Jacob: "Evil AI Dreadnoughts that want to turn us all into smoothies."

Shepard: "They're the reason I'm on the way to Council now."

Jacob: "They have to listen you now. They owe both of us their lives. I'd be there with you but Admiral Hackett has me on a Special Op."

Shepard: "Special Op?"

Jacob: "Long story Shepard. The Illusive Man is up to no good again. I had to put together a team to rescue some Cerberus defectors."

Shepard: "Yeah I've had a run in with him already."

Jacob: "Have to go soon. My team says hello. A few of them know you personally."

Shepard: "Is that so?"

Jacob: "Yeah Lt. Durand, Corporal Toombs, and Specialist Bowman."

Shepard: "When did Kate Bowman enlist?"

Jacob: "After you saved her ass. Anyway love you, see you soon."

Shepard: "Love you too Jacob. Watch your six out there."

After Sur'Kesh, Normandy CIC

Traynor: "Commander, Admiral Hackett is on vid-comm. Says it's urgent."

Shepard: "Tell the Admiral, I'm on my way."

Normandy QEC

Hackett: "Commander Shepard. I know you are securing support with the Turian Hierarchy and Clan Urdnot but I need you on Gellix."

Shepard: "Gellix sir?"

Hackett: "I got SOS from Lt. Cmdr. Taylor and his team. I had the Shanghai in route for evac, but the situation changed. I need that ship here.

Shepard: "Lt. Cmdr. Taylor? What's the situation sir?"

Hackett: "They are hold up in abandoned Cerberus facility. Taylor and his team has fortified their position. Cerberus is sending increasing numbers of troops to retake those scientist. I don't know where the Illusive Man is getting so much manpower."

Shepard: "Swoop in, evac the scientists, and get out?"

Hackett: "Precisely Commander. Those scientist could be critical to the Crucible's Construction."

Shepard: "I'll get it done, sir."

Hackett: "Hackett out."

UT47A-Kodiak outside the facility on Gellix

Cortez: "Commander, the admiral wasn't kidding. Cerberus is out in full force, but our Alliance Team is holding their own."

Ashley: "They must really want those scientists skipper."

Vega: "If those Cerberus cabróns want a fight, I say we give it to them Loco."

Shepard: "I couldn't have said it better myself Vega? Drop us and get clear Cortez."

Cortez: "Aye Aye Commander."

Jacob's team is pushing back the Cerberus forces. The AA guns are keeping the Cerberus gun ships at bay. An excited Toombs yells "Woo hoo" as he blows up an Atlas from a mounted turret. Jacob throws up a barrier to protect Specialist Bowman as she sets up an auto turret. Lt. Durand provides cover fire from a nearby mounted turret.  Shepard and her team take out a small battalion of Cerberus Assault Troopers. Jacob and his squad salute as Commander Shepard approaches

Shepard: "At ease. I can already tell who's in charge here."

Durand: "LC is a stickler for protocol ma'am."

Toombs: "I should have know you weren't really with Cerberus."

Shepard: "It was the only way to stop the Collectors, Toombs. Glad to you see you are doing so well. Kate, surprised to see you here"

Bowman: "After what happened to Aaron, I had to do something. The Alliance is always looking for good engineers."

Jacob: "Looks like I've already been replaced Shepard."

Shepard:"Replaced?"

Jacob: "The man mountain standing behind you."

Shepard:"Lt. Vega? Nah, he's more of a pull up man."

Ashley:"Taylor held the sit up record on Eden Prime."

Vega: "Only because I wasn't stationed there."

Jacob: "Chief Williams?"

Vega: "Why's he calling you Chief, LC?"

Jacob: "Three ranks in two years? If Izunami gave me that deal. I may have stayed put."

Durand: "Sir, maybe we should go inside."

Shepard: "Good idea LT."

Ex-Cerberus Facility Gellix

Brynn: "Lt. Cmdr Taylor, what is our status"

Jacob: "The facility is secure Dr. Cole. Prep your team for evac. Children first followed by spouses and the science team."

Ashley: "You have family's here?"

Jacob: "Dr. Cole what's the ETA on the evacuation."

Brynn: "In addition the personnel evacuation, we have to copy all of our files, pack up vital equipment, and wipe or destroy the systems we can't take with us. We don't want the Illusive Man recovering anything. I'd say 45 minutes...maybe 35 if we are lucky."

Jacob: "Double time Doc, we don't want Cerberus catching us with our pants down. Shepard I've cleared the med bay. Let's get this debrief over so we can get he hell out of here."

Medical Lab

Shepard: "This must be of critical importance if Hacke..."

Jacob: kisses Shepard

Shepard: "Remind me to thank the Admiral for this debrief."

Jacob: "Shepard, there is no debrief"

Shepard: "Well see about that Mr. Taylor. Now shut and come here. We don't much time"

Jacob: "Yeah, wouldn't want Cerberus to catch us with our pants down."

Normandy QEC, After Evac

Hackett: "Great work you two. Those Scientists have already made great progress on the Crucible."

Jacob: "Couldn't have done it with out the Commander's help sir."

Shepard: "Lt. Cmdr Taylor is being too kind. His squad was pushing back Cerberus when we got there. All the Normandy had to do was provide evac."

Hackett: "However you did it, you got the job done."

Jacob: "I think we can both agree on that sir."

Shepard: "LC you certainly got the job done."

Jacob: "What's my next assignment sir?"

Hackett: "The Zhu's Hope colonists have come under attack. This particular group of colonists are resistant to Indoctrination. They've done an admiral job of holding back Reaper forces. I want to evac them and bring them to the Crucible project."

Shepard: "Why bring them to the Crucible sir?"

Hackett: "The Ex-Cerberus team you rescued was studying Indoctrination. Maybe they can find a way to adapt that resistance to our troops. The longer this war drags on, the bigger threat Indoctrination becomes."

Jacob: "If the Commander will have me, I was hoping to stay on the Normandy sir. Lt. Durand is more than capable of leading the team in my absence. If we are going to stop the Reapers, we need these alliances.

Hackett: "You make a fine point Lt. Cmdr."

Shepard: "His knowledge of Cerberus would be valuable sir."

Hackett: "Looks like you have a new assignment Taylor. Hackett out."


Okay. I'm done for the night. Now I know why I stopped writing. I was about to go to bed and ideas started flowing. I had to put them down before I forgot them.

@ Darc  I really like them   =)    Thanks for posting.

I think it's much better like this, there is the possibility that he ends up with Brynn but if FemShep works for it the relationship can be saved. Hmm... could you romance someone in ME2 without doing their loyalty-q? I seem to remember that you had to do it, but not a 100% on that. But then Jacob falling for Brynn could be tied to whether or you helped him out early or not. Especially like the touch with the false-paragon, nice.

I like this, a bit of tragedy isn't wrong. I did the Ultimate Sacrifice with one of my Warden's and it was horribly sad and glorious. Cried like a schoolgirl. So I would probably do one PT in which FemShep get's dumped, simply to experience it. But the current state in which all of them get dumped, just because I like him so much there's a few FemShep's with completed PT:s and I had planned more, it really doesn't feel too great. Getting dumped, after all, isn't all that fun. It is nothing I create a new FemShep for, it doesn't give me butterflies. For me the LI:s are the extra thing that I see seldom in game. On FemShep nr 6 you have seen the big story-things quite a few times. But since I never romance the same LI in a row, I know that there is something special to see, something that will give me butterflies and I know that I won't be seeing it again for some time. Hmm... I just don't get that kind of butterflies from getting dumped. But if it was a branching alternative, I would love it for roleplaying.

Currently playing my Jacobmancer Robin, will be interesting to see how the Jacob-convos myself.

I was thinking of writing dialog for Thane but my copy of Xenoblade arrived today....so...well. If you guys need something else for the J-man. I'll see what I can do. I wish it was easier for me to transfer my thoughts to text. The entire ME2 cast has been on my mind. Especially the weak reasons most of them have for not joining the squad.

Of course given much time it took for me to flesh out those Jacob conversations. Maybe it's a good thing that Xenoblade showed up when it did. I know Jacob's character well enough type from memory. I'd have to research other characters to keep them consistent.

Festi's art, Gash's Halo/ME crossover fanfic, my silly convos. We all feed off each other and it was grand. It was great, one of us would post something and the rest of us would feed off it and post something creative. I miss those times.

I'm working or something for Jacob as well. 25:th is the deadline so there's some time left.

Oki, I have now rescued Jacob with Robin, who romanced him in ME2.

OMIGOD how that mission doesn't work.

What happened, why the cold shoulder when you meet up. When he mentions that he wants a family, Robin says "Me to, one day" and you get the "Nah... everyone knows that the Normandy is your true love". Oki, that was just horrible, thank goddness that EDI wasn't there. Would have been downright embarassing. And, if you question him you have the options between "sex me now" or "it's oki, we are friends". Neither one of those works for me. The only way I could even remotely play as FemShep here was pretending that she wanted to leave him all along. Gahh...

Remember back in ME2, when he asked you to start calling him Jacob, "How about we drop this Mr Taylor-business". After that, my FemShep would never ever call him Jacob again, he had lost that honor. A cold formal Mr Taylor, and no wamth in it.

In the shuttle when leaving, you have no option to just tell them, "you are saved, get out and get on with your lives, hope never to meet you again". You automatically ask him to join the Normandy again!! "Jacob I need you". The man treats FemShep like dirt, and what happens. You sit there with him and his new girlfriend, going "Jacob I need you" and in essence you're dumped a second time when he doesn't want to go on the ship because it wasn't enough the first time. I bloody well don't need him, I do not want the bastard that they turned my dear ME2-Jacb into on the Normandy. I could imagine setting down my Ship in water to keelhaul him.... slowly. That's as close as it gets.

It's amazing, the made this man that I loved beyond words in ME2. And they completely killed him here. He used to be one of my biggest rewards for playing, and now I just want to spit fire. And not because he leaves, it's because I do not recognize this man, and the conversations does not work for me at all.

The best thing about that entire convo was the cute little conversations FemShep had with Traynor getting the mission and coming back. Why oh why oh why....

I don't know if it's been mentioned before, but I think Jacob would be one of the most popular characters in the game if he was a different species! It's like we're racist towards humans in Mass Effect. After Jacob, the VS probably gets the most hate. And alot of people aren't too fond of Vega. The alien squadmates are automatically seen as awesome and interesting and the humans are the opposite. Kind of weird.

Hmm... I have no idea why we are so few, but that's how it is. Well, he has some bad luck with dialogue, which seems to have become a tradition, lol

Actually had a ton of fun roleplaying FemShep getting dumped. Got wasted in Purgatory after drinking with Cortez, woke up next to Aria, shot bottles with Garrus still hungover and lost. Turned down Kaidan because it was too soon after Jacob and so forth.

Hmm... if the getting-dumped-convo had felt a little better and FemShep had gotten a new guy because of losing out on both Jacob and Thane it would have been better. Now Jacob really doesn't feel like Jacob, but I can't put my finger on why really. The best had been if it had been a branching decision, you could save the relationship if you did something special in the game. Then I would have tried both routes. Don't know if BroShep can roleplay getting dumped in this way? Getting dumped was completely unexpected for me, so in that sense it worked, I like being surprised. But the dialogue didn't work for me, Jacob doesn't feel like Jacob and FemShep takes a too big hit with loosing both Thane and Jacob.

I really feel for you guys. Not only do you need to handle what happened to Jacob in ME3, but also these..people...ugh... *shakes head in disbelief* 

I said this when I spoke about a choice to save Thane but I'll say it here too:

If it was their L.I. that cheated, or died in a manner that could only be described as pure character assassination they'd be on top of their lungs complaining how unfair it would be.
I mean imagine what this forum would be like if Liara dumped Shepard for Feron, or Tali going after Garrus when you romanced him/her. Or, what if Ashley got pregnant?
They would probably not say "Ohh realism! Yay!" if any of the above happened.<_<
