I'd say ME rips off more from gears of war than that did from mass effect. It is a sci-fi 3rd person action game, there will be similarities.

On the other hand the star trek franchise is sorely in need of a good game. I don't know if you can call learning of others game mechanics ripping off?

This. To say Star Trek rips off ME, is the same as saying ME rips off Doom. One game dev comes up with nifty new idea, it sells well because its new, other game devs follow suit, tweaking that idea for their own purposes.
In other news, BMW is accused of ripping off the horse drawn cart.

Why this Star Trek?
Ah well, it looks a hell of a lot better than STO.
***
Look, as far as I'm concerned the whole science fiction on star ship genre owes more to Star Trek than it ever will to any one IP.

You know if they want a good Star Trek game they should make a turn based strategy title.

It's a star trek game which means it'll suck so who cares?

That's not how you spell Bridge Commander 2.

lol @ truth, but really saying star trek ripped off ME is kind of silly.

A fans made trailer for mass effect could be made using those screens, the look, color, and playstyle looks really like me, but with star trek characters, the way the characters move as well, obviosly 3rd person shooters look similar to an extent, but this is more than that imo.

Nothing is new under the sun.
ST games being inspired by ME would be the best thing that happened to them for a while.

Looks awesome so far. Don't care if it copies Mass Effect in some way.

I concur with this...
That said, I would like another point and click adventure game similar to "A Final Unity" that was probably the 2nd best Star Trek game ever, with a excellent plot that felt pulled from the TV series..

Hahaha, I just remembered how my friend watched footage from this game (I think it was during the E3 stream we were watching) and we both were like, wow, this looks like a Mass Effect ripoff.

I don't see any problem with the Star Trek game being a Mass Effect clone. Didn't Mass Effect sort of have a Star Trek vibe when anybody play the game, I did. IMO, Star Trek is not a ME rip-off, if it is then according to your logic:
-King of Fighters, Art of fighting, Fatal Fury, and Blazblue are Street Fighters rip-off
-Mafia (1 and 2), Saint Rows, and any open world sandbox driving game are GTA rip-off.

It's not going to have much depth to it, besides destroy this thing, and go do that to get this mission goals, the rest will be filled in with game engine cut scenes, and Spock is your only friend from the look of it.
