Sorry, but Kasumi's accent is definately not Japanese, her VA is Asian-American, Kasumi's accent is more neutral than anything.

She definitely has an accent. It's subtle, but it's something about her consonants ("p", "t", "d"). I can't really explain it, but I have a Chinese friend who does the exact same thing when he speaks English. Now, maybe it's not typical of a Japanese accent, but it's still there. Had I not known who her VA was, I would have suggested she was of Asian descent.

Also, if the guy who does Councillor Velarn is Scottish, he either doesn't have the accent or is trying hard to tone it down.

There seems to be very few charcters in mass effect that aren't american, it's kind of weird. There was one (terribly voiced) frenchman in the colonist mission, and then there's miranda who I think is Australian. I don't think there's a single british character in the game, (apart for big ben sniper) nor are there any asian characters, and there's more Asians than there are Americans on the planet!

You forget Samesh Bhatia, though he was such a minor character. Emily Wong was Asian, but she sounded American. Also Dr. Chakwas is British. And don't forget our favorite Scottish engineer, Kenneth! I'm sure there are more examples but I'm at work and probably shouldn't spend the whole day trying to remember obscure video game characters.

Also, here's a question: What the hell was Donovan Hock's (Kasumi's loyalty mission) accent supposed to be? It was probably the weirdest amalgamation of accents I'd ever heard.

EDIT: But, yes, there are not very  many non-American or non-Canadian characters which is very weird.

EDIT 2!: I forgot the Russian scientist on Noveria that gets Rachnai'd!

Blame my limited exposure to South African... stuff... outside of Nelson Mandela, some guy I sometimes chat with on the internet, and District 9, for this, but I was quoting Wikus from D9 every time Hock said something.

If are wondering whether or not Americans are largely ignorant of anything going on outside America, the answer is yes.  We're dumb.  Like, really dumb.

Anyway, something I realized about Garrus: I pretty much always make him the fire team leader in the SM and/or take him wtih me on LotSB and Overlord.  While this happens largely because 1. I like Garrus and 2. Garrus has Overload, it has the result of turing the poor bastard into a pinata.

Recruitment Mission: Gets hit in the face with a rocket.
Overlord: Gets knocked back by an explosion.
LotSB: Gets hit in the face with a table.
Suicide Mission: Takes a bullet in the gut and every once in a while gets his ass knocked out by a steel beam.

Poor Garrus.  I'm so unintentionally abusive.

EDIT: Ah, that explains it. The voice actor isn't South African. He's Canadian. So, he's trying to have a South African accent. He does a decent Scottish accent, though since he also voiced Kenneth.

I just tell him love hurts hehe. He's the best , well my personal favourite anyway, and not just because I love him and want a Garrus boyfriend pillow! I give him the Reverant and the Widow and mow everything down. Muh hahahahaha!

Speaking of Scottish accents there's an interview with Mordin's VA (can't remember his name sorry) and he tries to do an Irish accent but ends up sounding almost exactly like Carson Beckett from Stargate Atlantis.

And speaking of Stargate Atlantis does anyone else think they should get Christopher Heyerdahl (Todd the most awesome wraith in the world) to voice a turian?

I love gabby and ken but his accent is really  bad. Then again an engineer with an iffy scottish accent is mandatory on all starships.
